dear bryan, best to you and your father. a little know fact about strokes, is to cover him with blankets asap, to lesson the severity. also get the paramedics in there right away because there are new meds that will greatly reduce the severity and damage done by the stroke if administered promptly. i really enjoy the wonderful videos you and your family put together.
Thats the same with me Bryan, Cause in college i felt comfortable to say that I am gay.... Now in my second year, I am being myself and i have friends who accept me of who i am. I want to branch out like you did and go places like you did, So tell me how.... I would love that.... and tell jay I said Hi
college ... this is my first semester and its going great . I am currently at home but spending alot of time at my boyfriends apartment . <3 . I have made some friends and have been out already for years so for me it was the same thing [ except i actually am applying myself in college ] just less days of the week . During college I finished climbing out of depression and now that i can [ almost every day ] love myself i am now loving another person and loving it . Best hopes for your dad btw .
Hey bud, sorry about your dad. I live with my father now because he had a stroke 11 years ago. I just don't have the heart to put him in a home. Your father's stroke Is it really bad? There are amazing recoveries from certain types of stroke. Big Hugs man!
Being the first openly gay NCAA collegiate athlete that my school has ever had, and the first openly gay member in my fraternity has help make my college experience the best and most memorable!
Here's what three years at college have taught me: the local gay community is minuscule, clicky, insular, conformist, and fixated on sex. To be in the in-crowd you have to have had sex with most of them, and you're ignored if you aren't "in". You are swallowed up in a sea of heteros and hetero culture, but realize that gay culture is anemic and petty. And thus you realized you've been screwed. Maybe it's different in a big city, but in a city of almost 90,000 it's crap.
I can't say that I was a happy gay in college either. I hung around with a predominantly Christian crowd and I pushed myself back into the closet until a person I'd been involved with told someone else and then the college knew. I pushed it away until a year later and then came out. It was stressful, I couldn't really think about my studies because not only did I have that but hardly any financial aid. My college experience...
When I left for school, I was finally able to sort out my religious beliefs (Christian --> Atheist) and began breakin the news to people. Then I had to move back home. I can't say it's been a great situation, but on the other hand I can't say that I regret it.
Thoughts, love, and prayers for your Dad, and Godspeed in his recovery....and thoughts, love, and prayers for you, Jay, the kids, and all your family and loved ones... <3 <3
I wish I went to College! Hi Bryan ,Hope your dads OK! My mom had a couple of strokes the past couple of years. She is doing fine ,driving to church and VFW meetings again. Hope your dad is back on his feet real soon! <3 to you and Jay!
I'm so glad your Dad is doing better, Bryan. I hope you're able to sleep really well tonight, wake up well rested tomorrow and that you have a nice day. Love you very much! I can't believe you managed to still get a video in :) Always love hearing from you to any extent.
Prayers for your dad I'm truly sorry..As for me college had(still has 24 here) its ups and downs.. I find my self having my sleep way off staying up studying.. As for being out I been out twice lesbian and "kind of str8t" I love my man (ftm and when he was not to terms with it) but great thing about college has been helping start PFLAG here and being part of the campus group called Spectrum..
Awww Bryan so sorry to hear about your dad :(, I hope he'll be ok. Best wishes to you and your family. Being away for college/uni is definitely a breath of fresh air when you are away from your family. Moving away to uni was the point where I started dealing with my sexuality and thinking about what it all means for me and my future. I still haven't really explored it yet and I'm in the closet still, but I've had that space to think :). Looking forward to it being over now in a few months!
It seems to me, that with the exception of Dan, none of you had a really GREAT College experience in terms of your sexuality. :( These last 4 years of highschool to college kids have it so much easier. *lol*
Big Hugs Bryan... I’m hoping your Dad will be ok. My Mom had 6 deep Brain strokes and she is doing ok, been a rough road none the less..... My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Family..
My question to everyone is: How different was your HS experience different from your college experience? I guess the goal with this is to show scared gay kids who might not be able to see past their current situation...
I hope you dad is ok Bryan, and thanks for still taking the time to make the video.
I am currently a sophomore in college. My freshmen year was a disaster because of the stress I went through trying to accept my sexuality. With help from videos like yours this year has been a lot better and I'm enjoying school. Thanks again.
My college experience: telling my parents they're messed up fuckers and getting to actually LIVE life. I've loved the passed year and a half and I can't wait to see what the next day will bring. :D
I didnt go to college, it just wasnt for me. Your experience is very typical. Most gays really blossom in college. Things have changed so much now, with advent of social media. It seems custom made to allow for gays to be themselves more. When we say "it gets better", we very much include the college experience.
P.S. Im sorry to hear about your dad, I hope you guys can get closer now.
After school I studied computer science at the university. I can't remember that I questioned my sexuality ever at this time. I was never interested in girls and I never had a girlfriend. A few years later I started to ask myself if I could be gay but until 2 years ago when I found a few coming out videos on YouTube I wasn't sure because I didn't really know much about it and I couldn't find anything helpful on the internet at this time.
I hope your Dad's stroke wasn't the "devastating" kind, and that he will soon be back to the Dad you know. I didn't come out till I was 30 (gasp!)... but when I did, I blew the door off the closet! =)
@lwiesmann No..they called it a "mini stroke" so he was very fortunate. They are working to determine how to determine the cause and prevent future events. thanks.
I started following you, your friends and sweet and loving family a few days ago and have had some fantastic days cathing up on your videos, stories and your important work. I have laughed and cried.
I came out at the age of 24 and have NEVER met any direct hate, harassment or bullying. Only a lot of respect, acceptance and love. I hope to help others experiencing the same, or be the cliff for someone not as lucky as me.
I'm in college and I just came out this year, unfortunately I haven't been able to get as involved with things because not many gay events happen on my campus (catholic campus) and travel is slightly difficult so going out and have a good time is hard to come by
Much love, good thoughts and prayers for your dad, you and your family. I don't know if you're able to see him, but having just suffered a stroke myself this year, I can tell you that all support from family and friends...even total strangers...really helps when you come to and trying to figure out what happened to you. Even if no one thinks he doesn't know what's going on, we're aware on some level, so it really, really helps.
In college I realized that these feelings weren't going away...it took me a lot longer
to finally accept them and realize I could live as a gay man and be happy. Bryan, I am sorry to hear about your Dad. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Sending good thoughts out there for your Dad. It's awesome that you could still take the time out, with everything going on, to still put out a VLog and share. Make sure that you take good care of yourself.
Bryan, thank you for sharing that with us. Your story at the beginning (high school and beginning of college) was the same as mine. Though, when I first came out to my parents the summer after my freshman year, their reaction was so averse that by the end of the summer they convinced me to try to change. I ended up transferring to a Christian bible college (my current location) and I am finally beginning to re-accept myself. I told my family that this is it. I am who I am.

i'm still in Highschool,but i think i'm ready to come out,mainly because 2 things:
1)i stopped going to school since my grades went downhill,so i'm taking an exam to get out of school early.
2)Recently i've been defending gays, thanks to my mother, since every time some gay news show up,she insults them and i defend the LGBT community.
So yeah,i think i'm mentally prepared now to come out without hesitating.
