in Krav mega they teach us a similar technique but instead of grabbing onto his wrist and looking up towards the ceiling to break the headlock we do a open palm shot to the groin first on the arm thats going to grab the wrists and then we grab his wrists and look up to the ceiling to break the headlock.
good technique but if the attacker is way stronger? i think it would be pretty hard to pull this off, thats wy in thos cases i suggest a couple of hits to the groin for a bigger succes chance! (of course in self defence situations i mean) =]
isnt it more effective to have the hand round the back of the holder linked onto the elbo crease it is stronger and leaves an arm free to attack. tho it was different wat u did
I was saying it sucks as a submission, I was aying a basic headlock can be effective if done right, on the neck or in scarfhold position. A "bulldog" choke is simply a headlock done on the neck. The escape is similar for both.
As a submission, yes, I agree, it is not best in most cases.
IT doesn't suck, it is really basic. But yes it HAS been in the UFC, PAt Militech Tsubmitted Carlos Newton because he got him in the headlock and compressed the neck. Carlos realy had not practiced any escapes and had no clue how to escape. That is why MMA is a sport NOT designed for the street.
Dude, a head lock does suck as a submissions in the UFC. Carlos had a BULLDOG choke on Pat, which differs from a head lock(which you see in fights and general scraps.)
Great lesson simple and effective. One question Ari in the first segment you did a rear choke have you ever found this hard when your opponent is quite a bit taller than you?
Being primarily a traditional Jujutsu chap I love stuff like this :)
I would like to add that when wrapping the punching arm try and get their elbow. The reason is that having a strong connection to the opponents skeleton can make a difference in controlling them more efficiently.
I am not keen on using throws, whilst they work great in a dojo, on the street the floor is "evil". Anyone can bang their head, especially an untrained opponent and that could be quite serious.
firstly thanks for the techniques they are great! I was wondering if you could go to a hip toss with your head still in the lock... or would you end up eating the ground?
I wouldn't do a hip toss from that in fear of jacking my neck but I would do a 'scarifice throw". Checko out our video here of what I am talking about:
love your site's non-alignment and acceptance that kobudo jujutsu slowly drifted/split along lines of tachiwaza, suwariwaza, newaza emphasis. its all jj and all good.
good technique in the vid. heaps of variations off this.
That interesting

if some one has you in a "wrestlers headlock", is it a good idea to put your front foot infront of their front foot and throw them?
D34THSL4P 2 years ago
in reality that will take almost all of your balance and you will fall easily if you try to hip toss them
chozoisw33d 2 years ago
just get square to them and fall back, that takes their balance away.

could you also use the Kimura on him after too?

@OhmgrownCron
I think the army said it best. If you know how to break a mans arm, when the opportunity presents itself you'll break a mans arm.
Any time you have the arm at an angle like that is a perfect time to pull a kimura!
Pulling him to the ground first is probably smart...

are u allowed to put somebody in a headlock and punch in ufc?
fungs123 3 years ago
Sure, but the technique sucks, that is why you don't see it in MMA. It is EASY to defend and avoid.

@Submissions101 Its so hard to remove his arm!
My brother held to me real tight and i tried very hard, still couldn't get his hand away.
Help?

Additionally:
Personally I prefer just taking the groin out, but some people shy away from that ;)
Anyway, enough of my ramblings, thanks for the great video :)

Yeah well... if someone has me in a headlock and is punching my face there is no such thing as dirty fighting IMO. :D
