Apparently, to the female mind, the sight of a guy doing 100 push ups, is far more attractive than the sight of this pianist, playing this beautifully .... that's why I do not understand women and their thinking ... I do not understand it, and have given up trying to ... bad design? you bet! either mine, or theirs ..
@Byron10301 are you kidding? you must know some really non-intellectual women... I'd take him over some jock any day, I think a lot of us girls would say the same!
@lmfviolet78 I'm afraid girls with a taste like yours are rare ... If you are listening to Mozart on youtube, that already makes you rare enough, wouldn't you say? ... This piece of composition is INCREDIBLY super-human in every way ... it was uploaded in 2008 ... it only has 150,000 views .... Rebecca bla .... [sigh]
@Byron10301 oh it's heartbreaking. well, if this had 5 million views, then we would know it was being taken for granted. but luckily, if you look in the right places, there are most definitely still some of us out there who know what good music is!

Mozart Piano concertos as a body of work are unsurpassed to this day, the later stuff is a constant delight, continually brilliant and in the right hands truly moving.
The pianist histrionics are indeed a bit over the top, but we must realize the concert audience doesn't have the benefit of close ups. It could be like the exaggerated make up used in stage plays.

O_o I can't believe how similar your comment is to the one I posted under another piano concerto ... Are you a girl? we might be potentially THE perfect couple with similar ways of thinking! (but I already know you're a guy ... :(
Am I the only one that thinks this concerto has a kind of haunting melody in the background kind of fighting with the happy melody but in a perfect unison? It's really eery regarding the fact that it was to be his last piano concerto and he didn't even know it. Coincidence? This is haunting vs. happy is really visible at 0:03 - 0:12 and 8:01 - 8:12
I really do hate that face pulling crap. It's not only unecessary, it's also very pretentious. He could just as easily played it exactly the same without all that bullshit.
My favorite piano concerto...very Mozartean. Autumnal, apparently simple...but in reality very layered and deep. Possibly the least technically challenging of all his concerti.
You can really tell how the Romantic period was beginning to come into play. It just doesn't sound like Mozart as much as you get past No.23. You know what I mean?
Mozart was really amazing for his time.... but it all seems much too pristine for a lummox like me!!! The perfection of the composition is killing me!! Why couldn't he just compose something a bit less... calculating? =(
This music is only apparently simple... it displays an enormous power of control, sophistication and planning of form, themes, harmony and textures. That does not mean that the results are unmusical or rigid, of course. On the contrary, this is one of the most melodic, lovely, melancholic and enjoyable concertos by Mozart. Intellect adorned by beauty, beauty strengthened by intellect. That was his secret, really...
@JureGorucan True. It's just great to watch him play. Just saw him play the Rachmaninoff Cello sonata (with Louise Hopkins). Superb. Never ever heard it so well balanced with the cello (on a concert grand, lid open wide), so true to the text, so devoid of attention-drawing or display or misplaced rubati or whatever "effects" are common in even great pianists. Such beautiful timbres. Here's a pianist who wins me for "piano" in a cello sonata!!
If that's what it takes to produce this wonderful music than good luck to him.
our captain played this piece of music on reconnaissance mission thru our ear piece as a navy diver to keep us calm while we made our way thru brown water riddled with explosives.
c est horrible ça! Dès que l on connait Géza Anda ou Alfred Brendel, on peut à peine accepter une autre interprétation, pourtant ici il n y a meme pas d interprétation.
Undoubtedly he is playing here very well. However, the
fact that the music sounds very static, and Mozart is endlessly far from being static!, means that the performance lacks something. It's really sadistic to play the essence of music just formally. Eh, right, the tone quality is good, but is that all there to be??!
I think 1st movement Casadesus with Szell plays better.. but in the 3rd Madzar creates miracle. He is a wonderful pianist{especially if you dont look at him}
It's unbelievable... I watched this videos on air TV 15-20 years ago... for those who still remember what I'm talking about, I made every effort to got these TV shows recorded on VHS but, well... in 20 years many things can happen to some old VHS tapes.... I thought I never could watch this concert again, until now.
My dear..I'm a pianist too. so, be carful BEFORE giving your opinions. He is a good pianist!...ON MY OPINION, ok? as well as the conductor is. Can you "teach" me why he is not a good pianist?...and do NOT forget I've studied with Zecchi, Lepore, Murano, Agosti...ok?
Previn is an excellent pianist, but I wasn't really impressed with his cadenza for mozart piano concerto no.24. It sounds more like Hummel Cadenza rearranged by Previn. In other words, it's not so original, it takes too many ideas from Hummel's cadenza.
The part 7:40-7:50 makes me want to cry; It reminds me of music from the Romantic period. Just imagine what kind of music Mozart would have composed if only he lived 20-30 years longer...The sad thing is we will never hear what could have been.
@Am4d3usM0z4rt Mozart's from the Classical Period and not Romantic Period. You are right, I also want him to still be here to this generation and continue writing music. Such a sad case that he died really young at the age of 35. His music lives on!
@Am4d3usM0z4rt I agree completely. I was going to post that this section of music was probably the most beautiful ever written. It's sublime beyond words. It's like Mozart saw Heaven and stole a piece and put it into music for people to experience for hundreds of years.
@Am4d3usM0z4rt Maybe we did hear what would have been when Beethoven arrived in Vienna just as Mozart passed away...... That fact comforts me somehow.
I love how I can listen to Hip Hop and still appreciate the brilliance of this music where others may overlook it
