I know u will never read this but mamaw, I love you, you made me the man i am today..... im 4ever in debt. this song reminds me of taking trips down to florida driving late at night through the mountains of tenn. dear god i wish i could rewind the hands of time......thnk you mamaw I Love You:"(
I'd use to patrol woodlands while in the army, rain or shine, I"d sing this song quietly .... after my 4th tour abroad I got out and got married to my high school sweet heart ... it didn't work out lol ....... but I hope she's still doing OK ... and I'm on my ranch with "whispering pines" lining the driveway
My father had a Horton compilation that he played for all of us when I was little. My brothers and sisters remember it fondly. I'm only 20 now, but his music speaks to me on a timeless level. I love the scratchiness of the recordings, his amazing voice and everything. I wish I could have met him to tell him what an impact he made on me and my family.
@Cowboycurtis888 I'm a lot older than you, but understand your sentiments perfectly. My introduction to Johnny was through my father too. I still love to play his LPs on my old turntable. You're right too about Johnny's amazing voice. One of the very best ever. Like you I wish I could have met this talented man. Best regards, Darlene from Canada
My husband and dated for 3 full yrs. I was just beginning grade 10.Many nights we sat in the evenings listening to Johnny Horten 8 track music. LOL This however was and still is one of my favorites.
get the bear family box set. Johnny Horton: my first musical hero and one of the greatest country singers of all time. WHY IS HE NOT IN THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME????????
The clarity of Johnny's voice is the male match for Patsy Cline. This is one of my favourite's - a remark was made to me the other day of the wind whispering through the pines - I thought of this song. Thanks for posting.
Great music and a great era

Great. Ironic note:Johnny Horton and Hank Williams died young. Johnny Horton's wife was Hank's widow.
