hmm, either you don't play drums or haven't for long. and if i'm wrong and you have been playing for a substantial amount of time then shame on you for not researching your craft. do you think old school legends like buddy rich (who perfected the one handed roll with two hands) referred to it as a "gravity blast" all those years ago? gravity blast was a term coined to describe one handed rolls/fulcrum rolls in metal music. call it what you will but considering the drummers style, it sounds odd..

anyway it is such the way it is called. the technic is the same. i play the drums for 14 years now and i got to know this technic very late, but with the name gravity blast, so whatever you or anyone else will tell me, for me the name will stay gravity blast. i did not say its not called one handed roll. i just said that the name gravity blast is not wrong.

sorry but i had to say something, to correct you the gravity blast is different than a one handed roll because a gravity blast is made specifically by using the folcrum of stick to balance on the side of the drum where as a one handed roll is done without the use of this technique. either way they are similar but still different which is why they have different names for them obviously

yea johnny actually does use the gravity blast technique in this video and uses it frequently in his playing,but he uses one handed rolls and he has a great free hand technique as well. (plus i think he shows some tricks and differences in his drum clinic videos if you want to check those out.)
