@JadeyFletch they always change the plot from book to movie:) now they dont even do that cuz nothings origional anymore just straight up cinema no novel nothing anymore sadly
I love how stoic his father is; just carrying him down the hall while the ladies are screaming and people are falling. So unafraid. That's real fatherhood!
That Arab is such a douchebag! Hate to use the word, but with the way he grabbed Alec after Alec was near the stallion and him cutting Alec's life vest off, I couldn't help it!
@horsegal151296 How do you figure? Is it because both have sinking ships? That couldn't be it. It must be something else. I know. They both take place on the ocean. The sinking ships thing is just coincidence. Also, what's a "scence"? You must be either retarded, or ten.
that horse was quick to jump off that boat lool got skills.. wats up wit that arab guy tryin 2 steal his live jacket... dats messed up LOL im glad his dad died at the beginning cuz i didn't get to know his character that well... bfore he died..if i did i wud have def.. shed some tears..
@GlobalDating The ship was struck by lightning & burned. Most likely Alec was the only survivor because the lifeboats were tied to the ship & burned before the ship could be evacuated.
Yep.......The love of life and the innocence of a child........Horse and Child? No..........The love of Horse and Boy......Why can't we see this today????.
@Sydride98 Yep, original book had Alec's uncle as First-Nations ... 1920, the big movie moguls informally agreed that 'the only acceptable portrayal of an Indian (sic) would be a drunk, dumb an/or dead'.
Black Stallion is a childrens movie, but it is still a masterpiece, the cinematographer won an Oscar.
If you watch the original from the opening scene of staring down at the water running alongside of the ship to the boy being introduced by a long shot down the deck hidden by two women walking toward the camera to the ship sinking scene and the time on the island with no dialog, only a boy and a wild horse and the boys gace to move the story along, it is a magical film.
I don't understand all of they said, because, my first langue is French. But that a very good movie. I have never see this move in French because I never find it ^^...
when i was a kid this scene used to scare me, i used to keep my eyes closed throught the whole thing. LOL
Kids huh! also when they introduce the black, i thought he was a beast! scary noises and all SHe-TAn, (satan) heh! then towards the end of the movie you want one just like him.... i love this movie brings back so many childhood memories. the sequel was amazing too. wish i had them both.
get shipwrecked on an island n build there life on it n at last decide to settle on the island.......... can anyone plz tell me the name of that movie if u know plz plz...........
I really appreciate the subtlety of the score in this movie. In the scene with the fire where the ship capsizes, there's practically no music at all, and everywhere else there's always a quiet rumble or some kind of wind instrument, rather than the fully-orchestrated sound track that most film companies would probably try to cram into this.
fun fact: even though the Bucephalus story was not in the book .. the real story of Bucephalus (who was in fact in a giant Black horse) and Alexander (Alec) the Great .. and the story of Man O'War which Walter Farley,Author of the Black wrote could've been the inspiration for the Black!
Yea, that's true, but personally I think it was a little bit stretched.. But then, maybe it's just because I knew the ship would sink at the beginning of the movie and I was just waiting and waiting for it to sink or something.. x) I still love the movie though! :p
the beginning of this section is one of the most touching scenes ever. A dad telling a story of wonder to his son. The moment they share and the look he gives his son is priceless. Hoyt Axton did an amazing job with such a short part.

The scene in the water is especially scary because THE WATER IS ON FIRE!
I know, it's probably just oil on the water or something, but I still amuse myself with the thought.
