  • The ad before this for me was about getting a HPV screening....

"I'm clean as a whistle baby...."

  • Liz is incredible, and this song is tops. But the video is definitely groan-worthy. It's one of those videos the artist looks back on and says "I allowed that crap to see the light of day?".

  • @DoctorJohnSmith9 Disagree. Great video.

  • Ah, simpler times

  • Liz Phair in the early '90's was raw & awesome....

  • she is so hot :o

  • Fender Duo Sonic FTW

  • Buddhist2k. Your comment regarding Tori Amos makes no sense at all. Amos is a very accomplished artitst. Not sure why some bloggers like to through other artists under the bus when they compliment another artist. Liz and Tori are both great singers.

  • Liz Phair is EVERYTHING that Tori Amos wished she could be.

  • @Buddhist2k Oh you are too cute ^_^

  • I could listen to Liz for the rest of my life.

she is not singing for fame...

she is singing for herself and those who can identify.

  • will everyone shut the fuck up about the 90s? It's two decades later, the teenies!!! Just forget about it and comment about the shitting song.

  • I like Brad Wood's production. I don't like this stupid video.

  • Wish it was still the 90s :)

  • this song makes me feel awesome.

  • Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville (1993) is "fair" enough to me!

  • Never seen a crack attic look this good.

  • I don't feel like she is trying to show what her true talent is in this song. It's kind of monotone. Obviously, since her album with 'Extraordinary' on it, we all know that she can hit much higher notes and has a lot more talent than this song lets on. I don't like a lot of her songs from 'Exile in Guyville' because I feel as if she is hiding her talent.

  • Still watching this in 2011, HELL YES.

  • Man she's smokin'

  • I like this song but its too much repetitive

  • This song is basically about, I think people think she's a crack attic, I dunno, I can't remember, and she's basically is saying "Yeah, I never said that."

  • @xXPurpleLoliTranceXx "crack attic"? That's adorable.

  • @Avshalon LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • @rubbaduckgurl27 I was in college when this song came out too, and every chick who blared this song from her dorm window was lookin for someone to get "supernova" with. In the best, nonjudgmental sense

  • Incredible talent from & belonging to the 1990's .An odd side note-with the blink of an eye,she looks like the woman that almost did me in and the woman that reached through the flames .to pull me out...

  • This song ALWAYSSSSSSSSSS brings back the best memories for me!

  • whats this song about?

  • @MrPrizmatic according to Liz Phair it's just her reaction to being held accountable in a way. Like "uh, I never said" quoted in Rolling Stone 2010 she said "'Never Said' was one of those times where I was showing I could be just as unaccountable. "

  • @MrPrizmatic I can't say for certain, but it makes me think about people talking trash about her, maybe something she did even, although the lyrics imply it was something she said.

  • Lo-fi should make a comeback. This was 90s personified.

  • @ExplosionCartoons It is making a comeback!

  • @ExplosionCartoons ....you can literally see and hear a bunch of san francisco chicks smoking weed out of a pipe and doing art to this song in 1994

  • I get a funny feeling in my special place when Liz Phair tells me she's, "clean as a whistle, baby" ;)

  • @AFlockOfBeagulls nirvana did fucking sell out with Nevermind selling out is signing with a major label period that doesn't make it a bad record but they still sold out if yr gonna make music do it albini style and do it yrself and take no shit in the process

  • Exile in Guyville such an excellent album. If you don't have it in your collection pick it up! Love this video. Liz Phair is the Sexiest musician on the planet in my opinion and talented. :)

  • i just cried to this song just remembering the good times of the 90's "real talk"

  • Freaking awesome!

  • She's so cute. I forgot how cheesy this video is because the song rocked so very good. Man, I fell in love when I first saw this. Perhaps if I'd of only tweaked the letter writing campaign just a nudge, things would be different today and I'd be a happy mr. phair, cooking up grapefruit and washing guitars in the morning . . .

  • i like this liz phair better

  • I am surprised that Liz & Tanya Donelly never did anything together (unless they did and I just don't know about it).

  • @Scrap5000 Two of my absolute favorite musicians! That would've been a dream come true!

  • Ho appena realizzato che lei è stata una delle prime vere Troppo Wasted

  • @Lavaleradio Que?

  • @IdRatherBinADream92

    It's Italian, not spanish lol.

  • meh Jr high dream gurl obsession! <3

  • Im kinda getting sick of everyone saying Liz sold out. Since when does making a pop album because you want to make a pop album mean that your selling out? To me selling out is playing the songs the record company wants you to play for money. She just felt like making a pop album. Do you guys really think shes gonna make songs about one night stands and crap when she has kids!! Nirvanas Nevermind was a pop album but their not considered sellouts. Keep doing what your doing Liz, I support you.

  • @AFlockOfBeagulls You're right, people want to change sometimes. Sometimes that means their style of music or who they are. Doing what you want to do is never selling out,but doing what people tell you is. Ugh,I never ever want to be a singer that has my music written for me. Even though I''m not good at writing songs,I prefer to try until I get better rather than playing songs written for me. I want to be original.

  • NO LIZ! Don't put the guitar in the water!

  • she is hot !

  • Ah....my 1st crush XD....lol, she'll always be hot and way talented

  • <3 <3 <3

  • she sold out hard on her cd in 04 tho.

  • @omjurmom96

you've written that comment about 50 times

  • @klined nope?

  • @omjurmom96

She never sold out. She simply wanted to eat. Artsy fartsy dont pay the rent.

  • @omjurmom96, I've been buying music since 1972, and I've learned that all bands and musical artists sell out, usually sooner rather than later. Two examples: U2 and REM. They earlier stuff is light years better than their later stuff. Both bands were brilliant, but have sucked now for over 20 years. Actually, one band has never really changed, AC/DC, and who gives a fuck about them?

  • reminds me of katy perry, except talented

  • so does that mean that she always said something?

  • Classic -3

  • Liz is beyond sexy in this video, and I love her small boobs. Yes, I love her voice and her music, too.

  • Wow, this is one of those great songs which has absolutely no point.

  • back then this was counted as indie ... now this would be a huge pop hit

  • exile..one of the top ten records Ever.

  • I'd give anything to have the 90s back. This song reminds me of how awesome it was to be a bad girl back then. I'm clean as a whistle baby.

  • I love the simplicity of this song...

  • She's a fucking great singer you HIV infected douche bag!!!

  • I hope this songs easy on guitar!!!

  • soooooo 90s :)

  • One endlessly fascinating, endlessly hot woman.........

  • I liked her so much in those days, I wish she'd figured out a way to keep it together. Seems like she could've stayed simple and been moderately successful / highly respected like Will Oldham or David Berman, instead of going for the brass ring and leaving behind that raw quality that obviously worked so well. Exile still holds up though -- that record will never die.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! :D GOOD DETAILS>>>

  • I'd do her again.

  • She sounds like she's having sex while she's singing.

  • Beautiful AND talented! My girlfriend said I can has Liz if I ever get the chance(as if I would, LOL) But it's better odds than getting Beyonce in the sack! But seriously, I've been a huge Liz Phair fan since I was 16 and I'm 32 now.

  • @gpz108 Comments like this are all over the Liz Phair videos and they are just lame. She collaborated on four songs on the 2004/2005 album with The Matrix because the record label forced her to. They felt that the album she submitted would be like all her others ... and would not sell more than a few hundred thousand copies. Exclude the four Matrix songs from that album and the remaining songs sound like everything else she had done up to that time.

  • @aaronhoffmeyer Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! People need to cut Liz some slack. I mean, a good portion of the tracks sound just like Liz, except maybe the good recording quality might of scared a few people for god knows why. I still love those 4 tracks though, just as much as I do Exile.

  • @ 2:07 when she whips her hair outta the water with the guitar! funniest shit I've seen in a while!

  • this song is so good and catchy

  • shame what she resorted too

  • liz phair really does ooze hotness... man o man

  • Looks like a young version of my crush! <3 WOW! So, my crush looks like Liz Phair!! Cool!

Maybe i'll show her this video, someday!

  • Ioved this vid back in the day and had the major hots for her

    bad ass singer songwriter

  • Liz just oozes hotness!

  • the 90s did rule...i love exile in guyville...

  • Comment removed

  • I love itttttt i cant stop watchin it.. the music the amount of creativity the sounds and the storyline of songs of the 90s were the bestttttttttt

  • If Liz never said nothing... I wonder what she said?

  • "something"

    lol

  • 90's ruled

  • It's too bad that Liz Phair along with Gwen Stefani and so many others have now sold out for the record industries.

  • @KillerInstinct2006 Making a pop album doesn't make you a sellout.

  • It doesn't, but compromising who you are to sell a few extra albums and to make the record companies happy does.

  • I loved it when she sung the words "I'm clean as a whistle".

  • haha yeah clean as a whistle indeed.

  • Yes! 90's RULES!

  • she is fucking hot

  • im stuck in the 90's

    :)

  • oh my god you just the person i need to ask please please help me find this singer .she a female.I saw this video in the 90's this girl she had black hair at shoulder length she was in a car in the dessert with a acoustic guitar .and sometime the car would move she was in the back and could see the power lines it was alternative rock lol category.dam i need to find her please her image is always in my thought i cant rest until i find out who this females is lol

  • The first person I thought of when I read your message was PJ Harvey but I don't know if its right. She has one video (The Wind) where she's in a car and another (Send His Love To Me) where she's in the desert. Even if she's not the right girl she still rocks and I would check her out anyway.

  • Perhaps you're thinking of the song "ironic" by Alanis Morissette.

  • I wish it would be that easily the girl im looking for was into alternative rock lol progressive lol what ever that means she only had a one hit wonder it wss very dark sad acoustic..man I hope i dont die with out never finding her?;( I know her videos came out in the vhi specials one hit wonders of the 90;s

  • Mazzy Starr - Fade Into You

might be the vid you are looking for.

  • ohmy God thank you so much.I can finally die in peace some one help me fond her I 've being looking for this video since fucking 94.where i saw it once in vh1.bit i didnt know her name or the name of the song..I had to wait for the invention of the internet then youtube to ask around.I knew her music was categories alternative and she had black hair and the video was filmed over the dessert in a car and it was acoustic slow mellow song I found her is even more beautiful then I EVER imagine

  • @4evrnirvana you and me both!!

  • Very Beautiful indeed, wish i'd heard of her back then, would have dug her defo...Don't get the vid, whats with the guys in front of the monitor !?.. No narative need atall They just seem like two coked up fools putting together the vid..sx

  • all i know is that im clean as a wistle baby. awesome lyrics

  • indubitably old chum!

  • 90's music rules!

  • God, the 90s were just simply the best fucking time ever to be alive! Everything was so awesome and this video proves it :p

  • I love Liz <3

  • i mean she is just amazing!!! amo ésta canción!!!!!!

  • most of this vid is shot in chicago bptanicle gardens

  • Fucking hot!

  • she is the epitome of a beautiful blonde woman

  • i have no clue why but Liz Phair is fantastic to me.. beautiful

  • she looks like alicia silverstone so much

  • Now that is an outright insult...to Liz!! haha

  • I tried playing this on my guitar and i spent a whole week trying to get it just right but at least i tried.

  • that's why she is making the big bucks!

  • I love liz and her i don't care attitude.

  • Great video, it appears that part of the production was filmed at Garfield Park in Chicago.

  • Huh... you live around there? It's just you appeared pretty sure of it, that's all. I wouldn't know, never visited it.

  • alici!

  • Good lord that woman is beautiful

    and what a fantastic songwriter

  • damn, i remember friggin jamming out to this song when i was 8 years old back in

    '93

  • She wasn't exactly a great singer, her voice has sure improved, but you can't say she is not a good songwriter...just check it out "Divorce Song", "Perfect World", "6'1", "Whip-Smart", "Polyester Bride", "Firewalker", "Table for One" and many others...she is really amazing

  • I love her voice more back then than I her singing voice now. Her voice now sounds programmed to sound like everyone else. Plus the way she says "nothing" sounds really sexy to me

  • @Anquevitti She wrote most those songs when she was about 16. They're under her moniker Girly Sound. Some pretty vintage and raw stuff.

  • @Anquevitti She actually wrote most of those songs when she was in her early 20's. They're under the moniker Girly Sound, although the quality is kind of bad. Although, that was one of the appeals to Whip Smart / Exile: they sounded really raw.

  • This song came out the year I was born!

  • me too. arent we lucky.

  • me three and yes we are

  • dude you make me so old

  • How old are you?

  • Ditto!

  • She looks so cute in this video!! =D Great song, too!

  • This woman is awesome.

  • Liz Phair Is Such A Wierdo... lol, I Love Her Though

  • Sounds college like.

Typical young white blond superior attitude.Old age drags them down to reality.

  • yep thats right the song its good but pretty lazy too and tha guitar yep its the same thing all the song

  • this is actually one of the best songs of the 90´!

  • idk why but the way liz phair is now aggravates the FUCK out of me...

i liked how she used to be.

  • Young, single and sexy?

  • love it!

  • What is this song about?

  • hard to explain kinda......ummm its kinda like sayin "oh that wasnt me" type of deal.

  • what a fox

  • she was the best!

  • Its impossible to not fall in love with Liz, especially on this video... She is just sooo awesome!

  • I never thought I would find 90s music that could compare to the 80s. This song, along with "Fuck and Run", proved me wrong!

  • 90's music <33333333

    I would give ANYTHING to go back to the 90's. A N Y T H I N G ! ! ! ! !

  • Amen!

  • @peaceandus ur lucky! i was a baby the last 4 years and all i was listenin to was old mcdonald and other stuff.....i saw 100 greatest songs of the 90s on VH1 and my uncle helped me out with some other stuff before i saw that...so thats how i know of 90s music...and my parents helped me out with the beatles and full house helped me with the beach boys

  • @peaceandus me to ....there should be like a 90's music fesitvable or sumthing

  • liz phair rocks. exile in guyville is a f'ing awesome album

  • haha! I love Liz. She just looks like she's running around having fun which is awesome. If you watch the Everything to Me video, it's just her standing there singing. Anyways, she looks like the Crocodile Hunter lurking around.. whereever this is... does anyone know? Looks like a Botanical Gardens.

  • Humboldt Park in Chicago.

  • I miss the old Liz Phair.

  • Living proof girls can rock as hard, if not harder than guys! ROCK ON LIZ!

  • oooh man, i just loved her deep voice. it was nice to hear a female who didn't have a squeaky high pitched voice. good song.
