Reply to drjeffamatrixx. 100% it's 1984, I HAVE THE ALBUM, 84 is my year. With ref to the drum machine, who says it has to be used in 1982? Music is fashion and things change and move on. PS; You spell 'Yourself' like that.
these ladies are fantastic. even today they sound waaaay better then todays so called stars. everything they did is a pure sexy gold! hat down ladies! big respect from Croatia;-)
Valorie unfortunately passed in 2001, she's wearing green (0:48), and you're right, she was so beautiful, as are her two other sisters in the group, R.I.P. Valorie Denise Jones (1956 - 2001) she the short one
This is JUST what the doctor ordered and a real treat. Like so many toons from the era it just soars. Very much like Starpoint - It's all yours and many others. Brilliant..
This song & this album CAN NOT BE from 1984. It's a mistake. 100% that it is from 1982. Clavinet (in another track from this album) and this Oberheim OBX sound was NOT used in 1984. @drjeffamatrixx was def. released in 1984 song writer Kenneth Burke. Maybe it was recorded earlier or simply used there equipment back from the dates to record the track. Peace...
classic 80's funk by the sisters...harmonies are tight as usual and they could float over any beat. this should have been a hit! along with another ballad they did that year "why you wanna do that to me?"
i agree royston.i to had streetsounds lps couldn,t wate 4 the next lp 2 come out every month.robbie vincent on radio london on saturday midday.such great times we had so sad thay are not around any more..england
Does anyone remember the street sound compilations in the 80"s you had all these classics on there ,hated all the chart 80"s music ,these sounds kept me going ,Robbie Vincent on Radio London sat aafternoon and sunday night on Radio 1
cloud 9 you got that right. If u like tracks like this you will love a track called i am somebody by glenn jones, or my best friend,s girlfriend by marcus miller, and wright or wrong by the detroit spinners check them out im sure u will like them cheers.
And this is not just fun to listen to. This is a divine composition of frequencies targeted to the dance floors ... back in the days. Those guys were probably really passionate about what they were doing.
What a great track! Dance music was so much more fun to listen and dance to. I was 12 years and living in Germany during the cold war. This track kept me going on with a big smile even during cold winters and without friends enjoying the same music :-)
This is my favourite Jones Girls track, fantastic vocals and vocal harmonies,I love the instrumentation and when I heard it on Hereward Soul back in 1984 I didn't catch who it was by or what it was called and took me years to track it down, but I got it a few years ago and it is pure class from start to finish.
The Jones Girls consisted of sisters Brenda, Valorie(died on December 2, 2001 in Detroit at the age of 45.) and Shirley Jones. They served as backup singers for Lou Rawls, They worked with Diana Ross from 1975-78 and were the backup singers on Linda Clifford's 1978 album If My Friends Could See Me Now.
Their biggest hit was "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else". The song broke the Billboard Magazine Top 40 at #38 in May 1979. The song was also a Top 5 R&B h
