@txy345 These people are fantastic! Are they going to tour in the USA? I would love to know when they are coming. There's a great concert hall near me at the State University of New York, Purchase campus, if they're interested -- and of course lots of concert halls in New York City, which is also not far away. Not only is the music fabulous, but the man playing the zhonghu/erhu is very cute (though too young for me).
@txy345 Is this a traditional Chinese instrument? It looks very modern, somehow, though we don't have them here in the USA, at least not that I've seen.
@straightarrow372 the traditional version is a smaller hand held version. the one you see in the video is a modern (i think 20th century) interpretation. but these days it's considered a traditional Chinese instrument and used in Chinese orchestras.
How do you reach these people? I want to book them.

Way cool! Love it! Where and when recorded? Such an interesting mix of eastern and western instruments!

@straightarrow372:
Oops I just noticed this comment today. It's recorded on 16 May 2005 at the concert hall of the Central Conservatory of Music (中央音乐学院) in Beijing.

Incredible music. Does anyone know the name of the instrument that gets a solo at 4:08?
RedLace2 2 years ago

@RedLace2 the zhonghu
ladyerhu 1 year ago
@ladyerhu I mean the double piped steel lawnmower engine style wind instrument. Not the string instruments.

@RedLace2 My son says it's called a mouth organ. Not sure if he's making that up, or whether it's the real name.

@straightarrow372 it should be the sheng 笙. more specifically, the higher pitch one, gaoyin sheng 高音笙.
