Yes and No... Depends where you're at in the power band... It seemed to lose some torque at the bottom, but gain at the top. On the freeway its didn't seem to bother it at all. Its all relative, just like ay other mod...

hey buddy....i love your set up and im thinking of doing the same thing I know for sure i'll most likely get the Borla Stingers cat back system but is the MRT H pipe worth it? Because I hear x pipes are better for performance...what do you think? is it really loud on a normal cruise down the road? does it get annoying? please let me know thanks.

Yes, X pipes do make more HP, but not by much 2-3 HP difference maybe? It really just depends on the set up you have. I liked the obnoxious loudness of an "offroad" pipe, and I liked how the H pipes make a V8 sound, but to each their own. If you're strictly going for HP increases than an X is the way to go for sure. I also did an H, because at the time I was running nitrous as well, and increased flow is never a bad thing with that stuff. =)

Did it drone??? Not really. Was it loud??? YES!!! Dont get me wrong, I wanted the noise, but would I take it on a long cruise? Not if I could avoid it... It was great for short cruises and stuff, but if we were going to go on any lengthy cruises of a few hundred miles or something then I usually took the other Mach 1 with the catted X pipe and chambered mufflers. =)

One thing to note: This H pipe will make the exhaust fumes noticeable! Sure it smells good at first, but then it gives you a headache. I had NO exhaust leaks, trust me! Its just the "offroad" (cattless) pipes, they emit more fumes (which is what the catts are for) than normal. I remember several occasions where I had to drive windows up just to avoid the smell, which was ok, because the car was sexier with the tinted windows anyways.

@spartacusurf3 hey thanks for replying back...well im not looking to drop a blower in it for a few years...right now its my daily commuter from home to school...i live in cali so im going to have to get the H or x catted either way...since you have an x in ur other mach 1 which would you recommend? the h or the x? and what x pipe is it?  my mach 1 only has a K&N cai and subframe connectors...

All depends on what you want...? Power or sound? H sounds better, but X makes more HP, even though its minimal. I always say go with sound with these cars. Until you start playing with boost and big HP, you'll never feel the difference. Honestly, the next one I do will have a catted H, with chambered mufflers... Best sound IMHO...

CAI, Intake spacer, gears, and short shifter are the best mods to do to the Mach 1. Midpipe is good for sound and a few HP...

@spartacusurf3 quick question i am debating on getting an intaker spacer. did it really give you some good gains? Mainly because i want to delete the imrcs in my 98 cobra and while im in there i want to port and polish the intake and the heads and get a intake spacer. i was just wondering because we essentially have the same motor with the exception of the heads i belive. let me know thanks

I would do an intake spacer. I cant say for sure that it added solid horsepower numbers for me, but I believe it did add some torque. The car felt a bit quicker after I installed mine. Call it the "butt-o-meter"... There's never anything wrong with getting some more air in there, you know. I think its a worth while mod. Plus while its open you can clean out your upper intake a bit, if you have some oil in it (like I did).

@spartacusurf3 thanks for the response. I was thinking about getting one when I tear the intake off to delete my imrc. While I got them off I think I'll have them ported and polished as well. And just give everything a good bath. What state do you live in? Maybe if your close we could run the cobra and the mach. Well let me know
