What a great song and movie! I saw the movie as a kid and this song instantly takes me back to my childhood. I wish artists like David Gates were around today.
@acoustic61 It was great music in the 70's. There has never been better. But I grew up in Southern California in the 70's, and we had to lock our doors. My grandparents lived in the same city, and when I stayed at their house overnight on occasion, they would leave the front door open all night, and just lock the screen door. I always thought that was odd, because my parents never would have done that. The 70's were more innocent than now, that's for sure. Love to go back.
I have never heard this song before but my mum heard it again after 30 years and teared up because of it, so I had to see what it was all about... It's so awesome that a song like this can have such an emotional impact on one person, and people like me who can't see beyond the fact that it's an old song on YouTube.

This is one of (the extremely talented) David Gates's absolute best songs -- a masterpiece. I couldn't believe it wasn't included on the "Best of Bread" CD, and I was so disappointed.

Lost a girl for 7 years - and then found her again. At a nighclub I asked if the DJ had it "saying I know it's not the sort of song for this place". But he had the song and played it, and everyone slow danced and my girl cried on my shoulder and at the end - and I know you won't believe it, but a crowd of about 100 20 something's (15 years ago), applauded! That's right, they applauded a song at a nightclub in 1995!
