  • @Cheree19able si, puedes usar querria, pero es mas comun usar quisiera.

  • @camjuls8

    Actually is:

I need to go to the bathroom

Yo necesito ir a el baño

"a el" can be contract like: "al"

Then you have to said it:

    "Yo necesito ir al baño"

  • pueda usar querria en vez de quisiera?

  • Thanks for your Helps . Do you have other Lessons ?

  • it makes me easy to learn :D

    muchas gracias !

  • Necesito ir el bano

  • Good video , Like that you put lesson words in sentences, which is much more use full, So when learning spanish , instead just saying couple words leared, can say sentences. look forward to more of your free lessons

  • Thank you, this is great :)

  • muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuchas gracias amigo

este ( lesson ) es muy emportante para me

  • estoy buscando por ayuda, o una clase porque, entiendo mucho, pero la manera que I learned is by listening to my friends that dont speak english. a times.... almost always they never correct me. its

  • @jgirlfromca are you looking for help with your spanish? cuz i have the same trouble but whit my english, i mean if i help you, can you help me? all for skype; Message if you want to try so.

now a few corrections in your phrase:

Estoy buscando ayuda o una clase porque entiendo mucho, pero la manera en la que aprendí fue escuchando a mis amigos que no hablan inglés (casi nunca ellos me corrigen)

  • For "I would like" could I use "gustaria" instead of "quisiera"

  • Thank you for posting, it is well presented. Mucho Gracias!

  • Yo means I, but In Spanish they dont usually put I in front. They just say want to go shopping need to go to the bank etc...

  • Why is Yo in brackets, and is sometimes said and sometimes not. Is it just a choice whether u want to say it or not, or is there a grammatical rule

  • @giveusascream it is choice

  • @giveusascream ....Usually when you see the word "quiero", people will know you are referring to yourself because the word ends in "o" or "a". It can stand alone. I dont really know how explain the grammatical rules, but that's the best explenation I can give you lol

  • @ChesapeakeBeach I agree. But I never said that verbs have gender.

  • @esaudio Right. I was just pointiing out the fact to the guy who commented. You're doing a fine job.

  • @ChesapeakeBeach Oh okay. lol Thanks! I was trying to find a part where I said that . and I thought , If I said that, I must have been having a bad day! :) lol Cheers,

    Julio

  • Un buen leccion.

  • THANKS!!! Awesome video...

  • Need to listen to this everynight thank god for youtube converter god bless em Jajajajaaa

  • Bilbao and Barcelona are the places to be in Europe.

  • what's the purpose of yo?

  • thanks for this <3 mi espanol es muy truste y necesito comprender espanol rapido para mi clase en la universidad

  • @nicolemarieSEE Muy triste,en vez de truste.Suena mejor "muy pobre".

  • I love esaudio.

FYI If you are just taking your first steps. Spanish gives steps and English takes steps.

  • Thank you for your time, very usefull.

  • when you say "(Yo) Quisiera" is it only for females or can also be used for males. I thought for males it would be Yo quisiero. Am i correct?

  • @eatvids No, in both cases you say "Yo quisiera".

  • @esaudio thanks for clearing that up :)

  • @eatvids no, for males and females you say 'yo quisiera'. 'quisiero' doesnt exist.

  • @luisapea you can't use gendre in a verb.. simple as that.

  • @vitanovagypsy Do not confuse accents with dialects... There are no accents in English? So how can you tell if a person is from the US or from the UK or from Australia? ENglish is probably one of the languages with most accent variation due to the huge number of people who speak it either as a first language and as a second language.

  • @esaudio Not only that, but you can generally tell what part of the US someone is from by thier accent. The southern accent varies greatly from a midwest accent which is different from a NY accent which is different from a Boston accent ect....

  • @esaudio yes your right..in the US...theres a lot of Accents..New York Accent..California Accent..Southern Accent..Boston Accent. All these are in the U.S.

  • lssons No necesito soy Amercan pero soy bueno en español

  • such a good video

  • Does anyone know why some of the phrases in group 3 start with 'al' and others start with 'a la'?

  • @Lunarmoonbase2 Yes, go through the thread of comments. I explained that in detail some time ago. Good luck!

  • @Lunarmoonbase2 al is masculine and a la is feminine, i think ;P

  • @flyboy83297 No no. In spanish we put instead of 'a el' we put them 2 words together to make 'al'. But not for 'a la' that stays how it is. Que tengas buena suerte. :)chau.

  • muy bueno! I think that's how you say this. :) This is very good!

  • spanish is not difficult, portuguese is more difficult

  • @joy2559 I am portuguesse and i think this language is harder D: 4th language :D im working on

  • This is really helpful!! Thank you so much.. More power to you!

  • This is really helpful! Thanks very much! More power to you!

  • These lessons are excellent!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • very good. But quick question.

Puedo is 'I can' but what do you say for 'can I?'

E.g 'can I go to the bank?'

  • use the same word....just apply intonation... Puedo--i can,

    Puedo?-can I

  • @00048301 , it's the same, just put a question mark, for the beginning and the end, it's like:

can i go to the bathroom? ¿puedo ir al baño? and without question is: yo puedo ir al baño

  • @00048301 , it's the same, just put a question mark, for the beginning and the end, it's like:

can i go to the bathroom? ¿puedo ir al baño? and without question is: yo puedo ir al baño

  • Frankly I see that Spanish is more difficult than English. So much so, that there are still people who speak Spanish as native language, but do not pronounce the verbs correctly.

In addition, the Spanish of Spain, Mexican Spanish and Argentine Spanish are different.

  • That makes no sense. Native speakers that do not pronounce the verbs correctly? Come on! Do not confuse people with different accents with mispronouncing words.

  • Eh, well...we all know that there are plenty of Americans butchering English. It's not impossible that the same thing is being done in other languages. Also, my Colombian friend's grandmother doesn't "appreciate" the Spanish that is spoken by some young people. Spanglish? Any place can have their own "Ebonics" (though Ebonics is a ridiculous term, since it literally means "black sounds" and my English is impeccable).

However, I do agree that different accents should be taken into consideration.

  • @LaRazonRoja Only about 10% of the words in Spanish vary from country to country, the rest of the language is the same. It is similiar to the British saying "biscuit" instead of "cookie" or even within the US where regions say "soda" rather than "pop" or "tonic." Other differences are in accent, similar to comparing the U.S., British, Australian or Irish pronunciations of English, but the language is basically the same. In the U.S. there is the added phenomenon of Spanglish (el Espanglés).

  • Hey,

To those asking why AL or A LA, read the thread below where I explain that in detail.

    Cheers,

    Julio

  • Why do you not have to put a la tienda before zapateria ? Thanks again

  • @RobinSpence100 Because words like zapateria or papeleria (stationery), not need to go along with the word "tienda". But if you want, you can use that word in "tienda de zapatos" (shoe shop).

In the term "papeleria" you can not use the word "store" because a stationer sells more to paper (papel)

  • a la tienda de ropa=clothing store but store first then cothing

While why is it you have a la parada de autobus= stop first then bus should it be a la autobus de parada? please let me know for this seems confusing-thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • @RobinSpence100

Because parada means stop, and there may be many types of stops: (paradas)

A taxi stop (parada de taxi/sitio de taxi), a bus stop, a Metro stop. (estación del Metro) Remember that "stop" and "shop" have many uses. Should be noted, that kind of "stop", "shop" is.

  • General Noun precedes the specific noun in Spanish...Parada de Autobuses

Parada--stop(general) autobus--Bus(specific) same with Tienda-store/shop(general as it could be any store) Ropa-clothes(specific)

  • thanks for the video. very simple and great explanation

  • Love this video. Very Informative. Thanks for posting!

  • thanks I could never get past this point with Spanish teachers it never seemed to sink in and I ended up feeling dumb but this video has solved the problem

  • it would be better if you could see the writing. but very good vid :)).i want to learn spanish very much im having lessons from my friend she lives in uruguay south america. i hope i can speaak it all soon :)). soy como papas fritas haha. gracias adios!!! :))

  • In the sentence "Voy a ir al cafe," why is there an a before ir, while in the sentence "Quisiera ir a la tienda de ropa" there is not an a.

Thanks if you can help me.

  • omg i speak spanish and i found it so hard to explain lol, well, "Voy" its an affirmation, like saying "im going to go to..." where "to" in english is like the "a" in spanish, while "Quisiera" is something you wish, like "wish ill go to europe". there must be some grammatic rule or something lol its just natural for us.

  • café has is masculin gender whereas tienda is feminin one. el cafe, la tienda. Now the preposition (to) would be (a) in Spanish. Voy a ir a la tienda but (a+el) is always abreviated (al) it is a rule. E.g Voy a ir al café. First thing to do is to watch the gender and then chose among (a, a la, al, a los, a las) al cine, a Paris, a Roma, a la playa, a los cines, a las playas. I hope it can help you a little.

  • @MrPontiusPilate Simplemente porque no tendría sentido poner una -A después de 'quisiera'

because puting an -A after the 'quisiera' haven't coherence

  • Oh I never knew that. Gracias

  • i want to speak spanish

  • i really want to speak spanish...its such a nice language...like it!!:)

  • Very helpful lessons, thank you very much. I really love the language, but I can't afford more lessons, and I have little time, this is the best for me and it's really useful.

  • no el español es el idioma mas difil de aprender por que tiene muchos significados

  • Todos los idiomas tienen palabras con muchos significados, lo que los hace aún más interesantes. :)

  • oigan el español es mas fácil de aprender que el inglés !

  • i want to learn spanish

  • well, you see, i'm confused sometimes because i say al and then my spanish teacher says no, it's a la. so can you please explain to me why it's diffrent ?

  • Read below when I replied to valeagrl1. There you have your answer.

    Julio

  • you say al when its a masculine term because youre combining "a + el = al" but when its a feminine term you us "a la". for example "al banco" because "banco" is masculine but you would use "a la pelicula" because "pelicula" is feminine.

  • "al" means "to the".. it's the same of saying "a el"

    Example:

i want to go to the cinema

    (yo) quiero ir al cine

Meanwhile, "la" means "the" when the noun is female .. you should know that noun may be male or female, shouldn't you?

  • THANKS

  • Thank you so much for posting these lessons!

  • are the subsequent video lessons going to explain to me why some of the "to the" places are "a la" and some are "al" and, even still, some are capitalized, "Al," as in "Al cine"?

  • Hi there,

Not really. These are free lessons I uploaded but I do not think I will expand more on this. Right now I am using new lessons with my students that are not posted on YouTube, unfortunately. However, replying to your questions: the capital A in "al cine" is a typo. It should read "al cine".

  • Regarding the "al" or " a la", here is the thing.

In general masculine words end in O and feminine words in A. Depending on the gender, the word THE will change to agree with the noun.

    For example:

    EL supermercadO

    LA farmaciA

In some cases, words ending in E could be either masculine or feminine, depending on the word.

Now the word TO, when it means destination, it is translated as A. Thus, if I say, TO the pharmacy, the translation is "A la farmacia".

    More examples:

    A la escuela

  • A la zapatería A la tienda de ropa. If I wanted to say TO the supermarket, logic would say it is "A EL supermerdado". However, languages always have some exceptions and in this case there is a rule that says that whenever you have the "A + EL " combination, both words are contracted into one ..... "AL" This happens with masculine words: AL bancO AL supermercadO Al cine. NOT with feminine words: A LA parada de autobús. A LA universidad. I hope this has been of help. Happy Spanish learning!
  • The best way to learn a language is to just apply it to whatever you do. It's also like poetry when you begin to understand a new language. Poetry has rules and it expresses things and ideas. A language has certain words and phrases needing to be arranged whose order only varies from language to language. Poetry also has arrangement. I personally feel that they're alike in some ways.

  • hey, whats the meaning of "a" when saying : yo voy a ir... i dont understand. thanks for helping me out!

  • I think it means "I'm going to go..." like I'm going to go to the movies which would probably be " Yo voy a ir al cine". I'm learning too so if anyone knows this is wrong, please correct for their sake and mine. Thanks

  • Your response is accurate. You'll use this when you are going to do something in the future. "Yo voy a ir a la playa el lunes" (I'm going to go to the beach on Monday)

  • Study it as a set phrase. I will - or I am going to.......... voy a.

It will make your life easier to go that way than trying to analyze every single word. Just a thought.

    Julio

  • may i know what it means the "I LOVE YOU' ????

  • te quiero

  • tay a mo means "I love you"

me a more means "My love"

  • It's easier to show you than tell you ;)

  • I love you=te amo

"te quiero" means more like "I want you", but u can use it as I love you, but literally it doesnt mean I love you "te amo" does...hope that helps?

  • Not quite. "I love you" has two possible translations:

"Te amo" or "Te quiero". The former is a little bit stronger than the latter, but "Te quiero" should never be translated as "I want you" as the meaning is not correct and the idea is completely different.

  • thanks a lot! it helps my practice of speech

  • thanx for this, it really helps me study

  • This is fabulous information. Do you have a version for young children age 2? Thanks for your time.

  • Hi, I don't but contact me by email and I can tell you some findings on these types of materials in kids.

    Thanks for your comments.

    Julio

  • what's the difference between 'al' and 'a la' ..?

  • al is when you whould have a and el next to each other. a+el = al but a next to la stays a la. get it?!

  • Do you have a similar program for toddlers or can someone recommend one?

  • yoyally suscribed

  • muchas gracias . i have a question , do you have to add "yo" at the beggining or no?

  • its optional / depends on type of question

  • Cual es la diferencia entre de "quisiera ir" y "me gustaria ir" ?

Feel free to answer in English, anyone. :D

  • It is basically the same. Use either one at will and you will never be wrong.

  • Hi there, how would you say "They are going to...." .

  • Ellos van a

  • thank you.

  • you say " they are going to" in spanish is "ellos van a...."

  • quiseira is mainly used as a statement me gustaria is more of a request ( i.e. ordering lunch, dinner, a drink etc.)

  • gracias amigo

  • is the website free of charge?

  • great video and great help

    tank you for posting

    muchos gracias

  • Thanks for posting this vid it has helped a lot with my pronounciation !

  • Es un idioma facil, pero tiene sus dificultades en la comprension.

  • That was great. thank you for your work !!

  • I will check your site.

I m glad that we agree on the importance of interaction in SLA.

I think that it would be ideal for a student to get acquainted with Spanish in a service like ESAUDIO and then practice Spanish with other students through live video conference. I'm currently the only Spanish and French tutor that I know of that is offering multi-party video classes with high quality video and audio. I m surprised that there aren t many tutors offering similar services.

    Best

    S

  • Great Video!

Do you honestly think that it's possible to learn Spanish without REAL interaction?

  • Not at all! You can NEVER ever learn a language without interaction. There is wealth of research that proves that you cannot learn a language without interacting with another human being. That is why many people study on their own or from books or from CDS and they never progress beyond a basic stage. I wrote some articles on the importance of interaction in language acquisition. Check out my website if you want to read them. Thanks for your comment!

  • SUBSCRIBED.

  • Ok =D thank you again!

But do latin americans have another words too?

    Like some words.

I mean like american and brittish engish have some ohet words. Like tube and subway :)

  • of course! in mexico straw is popote in argentina sorbete, in venezuela hangover is cruda in other places resaca, in spain buttocks is nalga, mexico is culo and arg. is traste in venezuela trasero. so i said to my argentine friend "lavaste los trastes" did you wash the dishes/the asses ...and in argentina pendejo means little kid but in mexico it's like jackass/dumbass, pig is chancho, cerdo, cochino...all depends on the country

  • The latinoamerican spanish is a bit different. The biggest difference with the spain's spanish is that we say "Ustedes" instead of "Vosotros" ["Usteden van" instead of "Vosotros vais", we use the "Ellos"(they) conjugation]. The other big difference is that the S, Z and the C sounds the same (S)[although the C has two differents rules, if is followed for a E or a I is a "S", if not..is a "K"]. The rest...you can use a basic spanish and we would understand ^^

  • Thank you !! I loved this!

But I have a question. Is this the spanish ther are speaking in Spain or is it the american spanish? =)

  • Hi,

The accent in this one is neutral Latin American Spanish. However, the structures are the same for any variety of Spanish. Actually, contrary to what most students think, the differences among Spanish varieties are very few. Just some expressions and the conjugations USTEDES and VOSOTROS, but not a lot really.

  • gracis!!! amigo

  • Thank you! That wesite is awesome!

  • Excellent website to learn spanish, thank you.

  • Thanks!!!

  • !me gusta mucho!...jeje

  • I have looked around and this is the best for beginners. Great job!

    Bueno Trabajo!!

  • ¡Muchas Gracias! And just a quick comment that can help. "bueno or buena" is an adjective that is used AFTER a noun or verb...for example... "Un hombre bueno".. "a good man" "Un trabajo bueno" "a good job." If you want to put it BEFORE the noun, it changes to "buen" or "buena"... " Un buen hombre," "una buena mujer".. I hope it helps and thanks for the good comments from all of you! I do appreciate them and it really is encouraging to see that the work done is appreciated! Take care!

  • Great internet lessons! Thanks for the practice!

  • thanks !
