Very very ugly crash from one of the best Ski-Jumpers ever!!! We shouldn´t laugh about it because it shows how wicked and at the same time fascinating this great sport is.

You take the helmet off only when a second person is available to stabilize the neck. Of which the second person doesn't let go of the head until the patient is collared, boarded and the head is taped to the board.

actually removing the helmet is necessary because the patient has to be put on a stretcher and he has to put on a neck brace, as long as you remove the helmet with minimal neck movement.

How's that worse than sitting up while sliding for 100yds and then laying down backwards for the last 50? If he augered and stayed in that spot I would agree with you but I think they were right to worry about his breathing more than his spine after seeing how he took it on the back and then tried to self arrest.

I'm guessing he had his wind knocked out, a few broken ribs and a good chance of a punctured lung. He protected his head very well.

yea no kidding... even having an edge shear out on ice hurts like hell and ur bodys only 3 to 4 ft above the ground.. he was pry 20 ft above the ground and his ski dropped so that pry sped his descent... looked like they had the snowpack chopped up pretty well but that doesnt make anything from that high hurt any less
