Considering the fact stayed on broadway for a mere five or so months, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that got to see it. It was an amazing play, my favorite by far (and i've seen wicked, spring awakening.. ect.) It was just wonderful, and anyone who refuses to give it a chance really should listen to the entire score and then make their decision.
Stew's original band "The Negro Problem" put out a few albums, might be able to find a few of them floating around. A few solo albums and with another band called the Lullabies.
I work at the theatre that this show is playing in and i must say, not just because i work there but, THIS IS MY FAVORITE MUSICAL ON BROADWAY RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!
Because of the spectacular "lighting" that was featured on this performance and the Tonys, you can't see what a fantastic show this is, but you still must see it, it's the best show currently running on Broadway!
you really shouldn't knock it before you know more about it. I've never seen it, but it looks extremely intresting and the songs aren't too bad. You don't know how inspiring it is until you try it. If you give it a chance, you might just like it ....
i would have to agree with u here.this song lacks humph,it seems to just want to tell the story so much that it gives up some of its musicality. also the signers are ok, but not great.
I can't wait to see it...sounds like something i could definitely identify with...there's nothing wrong with Madea, but there needs to be more than just Tyler Perry plays and The Color Purple musical.
why didn't they do all of this at the tonys? it would have been much mor entertaining than what they did show. I don't quite know how to read the stew character, because he's kind of annoying to me. it's a brilliant concept and I fully support the show but stew seems annoying unprofessional.
I recently saw this onstage on Broadway. As a black kid who grew up in white suburbia, it's so refreshing to see an experience like mine finally represented, with some black people who aren't afraid to truly rock out. Thank you, cast and crew and everyone, for this amazing show.
yeah. and its funny because just the other day i was thinking - when the hell is there gonna be a black play/musical where thats not Madea, southern or involves people wearing overalls. ..yeah. Revolutionary stuff. I love it.
These people are awesome (gosh, I love Daniel Breaker)
I just wonder how people who saw this and never heard of/saw the musical think after seeing this. It's introduced as a Broadway show, but it's a bit...unconventional?
OMG, is the Best Show, I ever watched... Thank God, I was High As Fuck last night when i watched.... Loved It!!!!

No. This show looks fucking BORING. It's trite and uninspired, who would want to see it (besides the wanna-be hipster plebes that eat this shit up)?
