You could fix the problem of the weight by a drop down poll that you can stick into the ground so that all your energy is focused into operating the weapon itself. Just a thought.
This is damn cool. I've recently been interested in semi-auto/auto crossbows, particularly chu-ko-nus but this is putting new meaning in my interest. I'd love to try to make one of these someday.
while they go into wood easy enough, would they have worked in the middle ages? crossbows had such long reload times (and needed a crank) because they built up insane amounts of force.
Awesome, i would like to see a picture of how the mechanism, that grabs and releases the string, works. congrats on making the best repeating crossbow so far in history, at least as far as i know.
Nope. I didn't like the way the cho ko nu worked, the entire magazine has to move on the cho ko nu, the one I made has only one moving part (other than the actual string on the bow).

Holy crap, speaking of auto-crossbow, now all we need is to make it reach little further and longer arrows or bit of autotuning and it'll be perfect.
Bastiest 5 months ago
@Bastiest- Also, even though the accuracy might not be spot on, it is rather good considering that, that is the the area of average human body.

If this were used in large scale back at ancient times, humanity would have an ancient world version of AK-47

I wonder what kind of poundage you're getting on that crossbow. It doesn't seem like it's getting very much, but then again, it is a repeater.

I don't understand why people put on steel cables on homemade crossbows.
Modern string materials are X times stronger and lighter than a steel cable.
All you end up with a steel cable is a slow underpowered crossbow.
blork5 2 years ago
try helical flights! they might not jam the mechanism :)

Actually, arrows in a crossbow are called bolts, since they are different that arrows fired from a manual bow.

@Mekryd reusable ammo ftw!
now all I need is a super magnet that can pick the arrows up for me with the click of a button!

@Mekryd it probably doesn't even do that much damage. - definitely not enough to pierce through the skull.
