I wonder if Gilda came from an unhappy, angry household. There may have always been so much yelling that even though she'd leave the house, the anger and the hurt would go with her. Maybe she got used to getting angry to get what she wants, but somehow RD made friends with her. When Gilda visited Ponyville, maybe she was afraid of losing her only friend and she acted out in the only way she knew how to; anger.

There's another side to all of the antagonists in this show. Don't hate, tolerate.

I'll admit, when I first saw her episode, I hated Gilda. However, re-watching episodes made me stop hating her, and feel more sorry for her. Without Dash, she's alone. And that's something I can relate with her. Dash is the Element of Loyalty, but didn't even try to make amends with her oldest friend. I also know what it's like to lose your closest friends, it's depressing. I thought our motto was 'Love and Tolerate', but I'm not really seeing that at the moment. We shouldn't hate any character.

I truly feel a little bit sorry for all the antagonists in the show so far. Luna was swallowed by envy and loneliness, but that's no reason for thousand year imprisonment on a desolate plane. I couldn't even begin to imagine how boring that would be. Gilda, like previously stated, just got a little too scared of losing Dash.
