The thing about Russian weapon tech, its simple, which makes it less probable to failure, which hence makes it more lethal, which increases its marketing value, which hence increases its selling and circulation, which makes russian weapons the very corner stones of modern weaponry.

But in the long run, an AK103 and Compensation outdoes an M4 or M16 of any brand in firepower, muzzle velocity and precision. A lot oof you people seem to be fighting about what is a better dessign of weapon, the Stoner AR platform or the AK platform. I have to say from experience the M16 is a piece of shit. The round is not effective at close range and the design, while brilliant for the time period,is prone to jamming. The M16 is more accurate at long range than the AK 47 & 74 but it is less accurate then th newer AN 94. the 5.56 nato is also a poor calibre as well as the 7.62x39r fired by the Ak. both are only ok

The AK-47 actually had quite poor stopping power. This is why they switched to the AK-74, which shoots the 5.45x39.5mm round; of which mimicked the M16 round: the 5.56x45mm - a very lethal round.

It's a copy of the German Mp 44 used by the Nazis!! it's only accurate to 400 yards. Once then the rounds drop like flies. A 5.56mm round has better accuracy and is lighter to carry than 7.62 which means you can carry alot.

@rds13601 The origional prototype of the system that came to be the AK 47 was designed before the germans introduced the MP44. the internal design is also different. the only similarity is the sights and the high cap mag. If you don't believe me look up the interview with the designer and he explains his first design was rejected for a semi auto rifle. that is until he finished the Ak 47 and it was officially adopted by the Soviet Union as a classified weapon.

Interesting. The video calls it "Weapons of the 21st Century", but the AK-47 was first introduced in 1947 (now, don't get me wrong, its an OUTSTANDING combat rifle). The AK line has developed some variations on the design (such as the "semi floating" barrel), but this is not really 21st Century stuff. Ian Hogg was correct. We are at a plateau and climbing up to something really new is going to take a LOT of effort.

AK74 is a great weapon. The bullet tumbles through the body causing maximum damage whe as the higher caliber ak47 goe through cleanly. Rusians have a good semi auto shotgun too

I prefer the Soviet AK-74. Though the M16 is better than the AK-47 on the Central Europe front if there was a war. Difference? Vietnam is a tropic nation thus the M-16 jam easily compare to the AK-47. While Central Europe is mostly open terrain. The M-16 won't jam easily and also had a far range/with superior accuracy than its counter-part. Turkey shooting at 900 yards. The T-90 and T-80 are good tanks. However, the T-54/55 and T-50 are crappy. T-34 is the best medium tank in WW2. T-72 it depend

not really.the 7.62 ak round is bigger so it would pass through the body in one piece causeing 1 wound.the 5.56 m16 round is smaller faster and fragments inside the body creating more than one internal wound.
if you want to stop a man then use an ak round but if you want to be sure of killing a man use the 5.56 m16 round

Why can't people seem to understand that 50 BMG's are made for light skinned vehicles and extreme range kills (Which it still isn't good far because of its high drag) 50 BMG's are not made to be shot at humans....

@soloistchris666 I'd have to disagree about the M16/m4, we dubbed it "Dead Man's Rifle" in Vietnam our soldiers would pick up AK-47 from the dead and use them. In Iraq, private contractors such as Blackwater Security Consulting because they are much more reliable in those sandy weather conditions. if your carrying an m16/m4 and a sandstorm hits, youre done.. im not getting this info from the top of my head, i had plenty of friends in iraq/afghan that told me this.

The m4 I believe to understand (Correct me if im wrong) that it is an m16. but shorter an lighter and has better attatchments. Overall, ak47, awesome weapon, m4 awesome weapon.

You're right about Ak-101, that fires the Nato 5.56 and so does the shorter Ak-102.
They're only on the civilan market for now, only about 30 thousand have been built.
Ak-103 and Ak-104 are the same thing but they fire 7.62x39, a phew countires have purchased 103 and 104 as the standard infantry rifle.

I feel sorry for mikhail kalashnikov he made close to nothing off his design and so many other countries made thier own variation of the rifle and flooded the market with ak47s and sold them for dirt cheap! Mikhail came up with his own brand of "military strength vodka" as kalashnikov called it.
