  • I've tried to find medical documentation showing the correlation to oral and esophageal cancers from the use of Yerba Mate. From what I can find (which isn't much) it seems that any carcinogen effects are most probably caused by any wood smoke used in the drying of the leaves and stems and not the yerba mate itself.

Now If high water temps bring that carcinogen out or not I do not know, but I thought it might be something interesting to check out.

  • oye, escucha 'el gringo' , -joke, chiste--hablas buen el ingles.

  • @pancho133 WRONG, its a mistake. MATE is originary of THE PARAGUAY, of the GUARANIES indians and of the missions. Do you know the MENSU?? Originary of the antique PARAQUARIA, Argentina not existed 400 years ago, PARAGUAY is the FATHER of the Argentina and of the pioners argentinians. ILEX PARAGUAYENSIS=MATE. Sorry man, I demand more respect for the truth. Paraguay, braves guarani peoples land...

  • great vid 5*'s - I already knew use warm not hat water but thank you for giving specific temperatures

  • Ale, your video speaks the truth!

    5 stars!

  • Yes, you speak the truth. La Merced is great. You sell nice bombillas also. I find anywhere between 160 to 180 F is perfect, like white and green Chinese tea.

  • I set my temperature at around 160-180 this morning but forgot to add the cup of cold water to the leaves prior to brewing. Oops...

  • If you get your yerba mate too hot, just let it sit for about 5 minutes and it should be ready to drink. I usually put my water through my Mr. Coffee or Mrs. Tea and the water is just the right temperature. I don't add any mate just water and let is going through into the carafe. That way it also keeps it at the right temperature you need to drink it all the time.

  • Great Idea!

  • It IS nearly a ritual, isn't it? (lol) Over the years, and not being among Argentinians everyday for demonstration; It took me the LONGEST to Stop! boiling the water.....

  • Yes, it's like a ritual, but it's more like a Tradition.

  • Nice video - do you have any reccomendtions for Organic Yerba?

I usually drink Cruz de Malta, taragui or Rosemonte. thank you

  • Have you tried Amanda?

  • All of our organic yerba mate is really good. It depends on whether you like it mild, medium or strong. We all have different tastes. My Mate World has 2 different packs of samples you can try to see which you like.

  • I started drinking roasted mate years ago, and I love it. I've always prepared it in a tea pot, but as I recently got my first gourd in the US, I've been brewing and drinking mate (not roasted) the traditional way in the last few days. But as I keep drinking it by filling the gourd several times (since I use a lot of mate leaves, I don't want to waste it by only pouring water once) I start feeling sick. Maybe I'm just drinking it too much...
