For maintenance, should I back comb and twist them every day? Also, some more advice with washing and drying would be nice. I hear that it's best with residue-free shampoo
hey there im kinda new to dreads but not if that makes sense... (3rd time lucky!!) i bleached me hair this time (which is now short) i sometimes back-comb, i use me lock peppa, and i do the rip n twist o some of me thinner dreads but ive noticed that two of my dreads are kinda split in two... like to a Y shape at the ends of me dreads... would you suggest me ripping them apart cos i dunno wat to to, i back-combed them but nothing happened and i ju dunno wat to do...
I don't know if this question has been asked before, but is it possible/a good idea to dread only a few strands of your hair, and leave the rest normal? I had five or six locks down for about a year, but I got stressed out with school and left them natural and my whole head ended up in a ball in the back of my head, so I'm wondering if it's just the fact that it isn't possible to dread only a few locks or if it was just because i stopped taking care of them. Thank you, hope you can help
hey i am wanting to start my own dreads...my hair is about a foot and a half in length...but i was wondering is backcombing the best method...or could i try makin the lock with the crochet needle technique?...if u havent seen it theres some guy doin it on youtube...type in dreadlocks needle style...please write back
my dreads are 18 cm and 4 cm of them are just splitted how do i do to conect the tipps agin and how do i make blunted tips without damedging my hair to mutch !?
i live on the coast and about to do dreads soon. i want to wash my hair, do you think it would be a good idea to wash your hair in the sea? (thats why i mentioned i live on the coast by the way) as i've seen what salt water does to your hair! surfers hair is quite knotty
OOOPS!!! I have been using that Locking Accelerator on my son's hair after I shampoo it, just once a week. I think it is just salt water. I'm getting information overload. LOL
Hey, im dreadin my boyfriends mohawk. and i backcomb and palm roll most of them every day, the problm is the frizz at the roots, I use a crochet hock to get most of the long hair in to the main dread, but there are still lots of whispy hiar making them look frizzy. Is there anyway i can make these either disapear or put them in to the dread? I dont really want to use products, so and help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great dread vids :-)
You're a smart dude and I agree with a lot of the things you said. The one thing I disagreed on was the Locking Accelerator. Essentially, it's salt water. Salt water, or swimming in the ocean, usually seems to help dreads tighten up. Meh. It's just me. I like it. :) Rock on though, man.
defo da most helpful vid iv seen yet on dreads! i was propa confused bout wich products 2 use so ta pal! jus one question...are there any issues when dying dreads?? i av brown ones n wntd 2 dye a few ov em blonde n ws worried dat sumat mite go rong... ta mate
sweet vid man!! in it you said workin in a kitchen and keeping your head covered can damage your dreads. how can that damage your dreads and what can i do to prevent this? i got dreads about a week ago and i have to put my dreads through the back of my hat at work. what can i do?
Please help! My dreads are about 3 months old, my roots are so loose, and dreads a loopy in some places and tight it others...what can I do to fix/help them. I wash every other day, don't use wax, and used backcombing method..
a good, natural locking accelerator is a saline solution..which is to say, salt water. anyone w/dredz who has swam in the ocean will know how much it helps! just getting a spray-bottle and filling it with saltwater does the job. KEEP IN MIND: it can potentially make yer scalp itch, so try and limit its contact to yer dreads/hair.
what if you have a lot of dandruff? i do and i was thinking that if i start the dread process that i'll have to stop using my head and shoulders and all of my dandruff would show and my hair would look like shit what do you recommend i do?
Dandruff is a big pain with dreads. I get dandruff too, as do most people, I never really had a problem with it until I dreaded my hair. Because you are supposed to keep your hair as dry as possible this unfortunately leads to a dry scalp. Some people continue to use regular shampoo with dreads and it works for them so I guess you will just have to give it a go? I just tend to give my hair a good shake to remove any dandruff and bigger pieces you can pick out with tweasers or your finger tips.
so if i have very fine/thin hair i can still get dreads? And while they are in the process and not looking very good is there any kind of hat i can wear that wont hurt them? or like an open bandana....?
Yeah thats right. You can wear a wrap as I sometimes do which is basically a thick headband which leaves all your dreads sticking out the back of it which looks quite cool or there are hats available specifically for dreads called tams.
At 3 weeks your dreads will be very fragile so I would not of recomended cutting the tips at this stage no matter how tempting it is (and trust me I know) you should have pinched the dread about an inch from the tip and rubbed the tip clockwise against the palm of your hand to get it to knot up then as they mature if you still want blunted tips you can crochet the tips back into the dreads to make them look and feel really solid although this makes you lose quite a bit of length. Peace
Yeah... Pinch ur dread about an inch from the tip and rub the tip in a clockwise circular motion in the palm of your hand for a couple of minutes and they will start to knot up or you can get a crochet hook and fold the tip up and crochet it into the dread but your dreads may not be tight enough to crochet at this stage. Peace
Hi, I have got a video up talking about dandruff and I will make and add a video in the next day or so showing how to get your roots to lock up. Best thing you can do is subscribe to my account then you will be allerted when I have uploaded the video showing you how to knott up your roots. Peace.
Im trying to get dreds my hear is shourtish.(mybanfs are at my eye brows)I want my dreds thin but tikish kinda like munky form korn if you know who he is the gutaris the has yealo ihs haer. now i have not smpooed or comed my haer in a loooooooooooooong time but I do ceep them whet. but the my problem is i have a mowhawk. what do i do???
Hi, Yeah I know Munky as I am a huge KoRn fan but his dreads have changed alot over the years. I last saw him a few months ago and his dreads were all his natural colour (med/dark brown) and he had kind of a "Jack Sparrow" thing going on, however colour is not relivant at the moment. Firstly you need to wash your hair as hair will struggle to dread from scratch in greasy/ oily hair but be careful on what shampoo you use as you dont want to condition your hair you just want it clean and dry......
you could use the dreadhead shampoo that I show you in this video or for a cheaper option there are plenty of nice vegan/ herbal shampoo and soaps available on the highstreet. Secondly, Stop wetting your hair. Keep your hair dry as much as possible this applies if your going for natural or backcombed dreads. (I will add a video soon on how to form dreads by backcombing)for natural dreads just sit back and wait but it could take a LONG time, possibly years to dread. Munkys dreads are backcombed
well... my mom and dad Dont know Im geting dreds it one of things Im not telling them if you knowwhat I mean..but ware con you getthis dredhead shampoo?
The length of your hair and your mohawk are not a problem, If you keep shaving around the mohawk, as it grows and your dreads get longer it will look like you just have an undercut (more like Jon Davis than Munky) however if you want the look that munky is sporting you need to grow your mohawk out and section your hair in 1" squares with a centre parting, get yourself a metal dreadcomb and get busy backcombing, twisting and palm rolling but be aware it takes alot of patience. Good luck!!! PEACE.
thank you very much......ijust got new i mite haft to shave my hair b.c I granfother is dead and I HAFT TO GO to his funeral..but Illtalk my dad in to letting me grw my hair out....is there any hair coloring shud stay away form?
Not that I am aware of, my hair was dyed ultra light blonde before I put dreads in and the dye made my hair really dry which actually helped the dreading process.
To be honest at this point I had not washed my hair but as I had the shampoo that I got for this video and my head was a little itchy I decided to give it a go, I wasnt over impresssed with it, it didnt clear my scalp of dandruf but it did feel kinda nice to wash it after so long although I could not enjoy the process as I was paranoid it was going to unknott my dreads, my dreads felt a little looser until my hair dried completely then after a bit of maintenance they felt like normal again.
Thanks for all that good info. My dreads are about 6 weeks old, and I've been using knottyboy wax. My dreads have been looking good. Only 1 problem: flakes. My scalp is really dry and I get flakes in my hair and I can't remove them. How can I fix that?
Hi, thanks for the question. I have put another video up about dandruff in dreads so I hope this helps. Also how often are you applying wax and how much are you using when you do apply it? at 6 weeks I would recomend that you seriously cut down on wax use and try avoid putting anymore on at all if possible. are you using any other products or tips? keep the questions coming. Peace
