Haha, I read in ``Room Full of Mirrors`` that during this interview his girlfriend Etchingham was right behind the camera and imagine her reaction when Jimi was like ``Some girls are electric to us``??
jimi would MURDER himself if he knew kids were bumpin around these days calling Lil' Wayne, Justin Beiber, and Lady Gaga "the greatest"...Its better that he didnt live to see this disgraceful fall of music :(
why cant people take music seriously like hendrix. there could be so much good music being released during this era since we have so many different artists from the 60s, 70s, and 80s to be influenced by. its fuckin disguisting
what is the fuc*** problem with drugs man... they truly open doors in your mind. that is a fact, so stop fc***ing around. yeah, excessive consumption wastes you, but what the hell, whats the point living 80 long pointless years instead of passionate, inspirational, influential, incredible, crazy 27 years... do whatever you want, but with love. Drugs accelerate the human mind evolve process. it's a shame it's bad for U'r body, but its your life. He was Amazing by beeing himself.
what I thought was funny was his take on pop at that time and how it's still relevant today. that shows that the music industry still runs like it's 1960.
Amazing how in this video (see Dick Cavett Video) Hendrix used some intuition, and prophectically mentions how music will eventually become more about money and riches rather than being about heart and soul.
He was right! music nowadays has become about "what sells" and not what "has meaning"
I'm sure he'd be rolling in his grave if he knew what music young people listen to nowadays!
@narleyg5 Humbly, the only way to agree with you is if a person makes no effort and experiences music by switching on the mainstream radio station or the music channels on TV. With the internet, the underground music scene has never been more fruitfull, plentifull, and accessible to all. There has never been so much new stuff to explore before, and the netlabel scene is changing the game by having all this music for free.
People need to explore what is out there and find what they like.
jimi isnt one of those artists when he gives an interview he talks like hes above the intelligences of the interviewer like bob dylan and john lennon and i like that.
For me Jimi was the man. Today, 39 years after his death, he is still the man. Making comparisons against musicians playing on modern and 60's gear is wrong. Jimi's music touched you in your soul. More than a listening experience, this was a physical and emotional experience. Litle Wing, for example, to this day drives me to tears of joy simply because of its beauty. Comparisons are pointless. Genius will always win. God bless Jimi, Noel, and Mitch. You were and still are the best. QED.
Many comparisons on playing style. Jimi, Clapton, Beck, Gilmour etc. All wonderful musicians. So why is it that Jimi is singled out? Originality and firsts. These are traits of genius. And have no doubt, The Experience was a force to be reckoned with. Their music cannot be referenced to anything that came before, and everyone from Black Sabbath to Led Zep have developed it since. Even Clapton himself referred to Jimi as a genius. Perhaps once in a generation the likes of Jimi will turn up.
Jimi and Clapton were friends. One of Jimi's pre-requisites to come to the UK in the first place was that he wanted to meet Clapton. Chaz Chandler knew Clapton personally, so no problem. Jimi's first performance was at a Cream gig in London. He got on stage, plugged into Jack Bruces amp, and played Howlin Wolfs 'Killing Floor.' Clapton went back stage. Jimi had arrived. All the UK guitar gods were on the run from that point on! I love these interviews. You can learn so much about Jimi.
burn in the firey pits of hell haha my ass cream is over ratted your ujst jealous cause youd never beable to accomplish what clapton, baker and bruce had done in such a short period of time......... Clapton Is God.
simmer down, there, pal...your granpa mighta thought so, but Eric is just a guitar playing musician. Jimi, on the other hand, was a cosmic force . slight difference.
And I don't know, but seriously doubt, that you ever saw Cream. I did. Twice: For FREE! And they were incredible. And loud! I mean in 1968, not 2006 either! Try talkin about something you know. Eric and Jimi were friends, by the way. Look up the history of Marshall amps, for starters..
that wasnt the point, who cares who saw what its about the music, clapton was god if you were in the 60's then you would have known that, they called him taht for a reason, both musicians are my favorite i also own every hendrix record and creams 5 other records, in my opinion clapton has had just as much if not more influence on my guitar playing. and i know erci and jimi were friends
We are all so fortunate that these brilliant musicians' music was heard by so many people. Cream helped a lot by mentioning the original writers of the songs, not pretending it was new, or their creation. As for the whole "god" thing, that came out of some petty battles between British music critics writing for the pop press. It did not come from the fans. The writers were trying to win favor with Clapton or Paige, hoping to score points and gain access to the groupies. Still happens.
well according to my father whom was 21 in 1968 all of his firends refered to clapton as god. im not tryin to argue maybe in your neck of the woods it was different but my father grew up in the states during the 60's and he didnt have tv or anyhting like that.
lol now that i re-read what you said, first off your old enough to be my grandpa, and second my grandpas passed away, third clapton and hendrix were both extremely muscially inclined, the jimi henrdrix experience was a whole other universe compared to jimi, i never said either one was better than the other.
I think when he said manufatcured tin foil he meant popular bubblegum music that was begin played on AM radio at the time and not the Cream who Jimi loved. And now the teenyboppers are back into that tin foil stuff with Britany Spears an all.
@musicofme1 Yeah, check out witchcraft from sweden, brutus from norway, dead meadow, radio moscow, the sheepdogs etc....theres some newer bands bring back the real sound, its great.

Pop may have been heavily manufactured even in the 1960's, but at least a certain degree of talent was required for artists to gain success.

So the good musicians are bubbling under and independent, which I thijk is the way it should be.
Although the indie world has its own 'tin foil' junk floating around. A lot of people simply don't know how to play ...
