  • The Executive branch has often used its powers do what they thought necessary to protect us. Abraham Lincoln suspended habeas corpus during the civil war before congress could act. President Wilson expanded the Espionage Act of 1917 to punish dissent in WWI. President Roosevelt interned west coast Japanese during WWII. Truman seized the steel mills in the Korean War. In my opinion Bush's detention and surveillance policies are not as far reaching as those of his predecessors
