@FadeToBlack888 Well, what improved for the common person in britain during her time? The only positive thing people seem to mention is the size of her balls and that she went to war.
@Kiddowesth if you were one of the 1 million people made unemployed by her you had it hard. if you were one of the other 29 million common working people you never had it better than under thatcher.
@FadeToBlack888 Actually Im from Denmark, hence its hard for me to know how the situation was while she was in office. And based on your answer, you dont know either?
@Kiddowesth ok: lower taxes, lower inflation (cost of living) poor people could buy their own council houses to get them up the property ladder, high economic growth - higher wages, low immigration, protected the working people against Trade Union boss bullies, lower debt, low budget deficits, higher investment, more spending on healthcare and helping to end the Cold War
the cost was that a million people in inefficient industries like coal mining were made unemployed, had to happen
Thatcher was a bitch whore fascist and murdress. France hate her. Mitterand hated her. You will suffer old mad garbage. The actress is a bloody idiot to have accepted this role or she is her herself a bitch thatcherian. Die also cretin !
English you don't like Europe : go out ! but his sucessors have no balls to do it so keep quite.
@LaLaGrunge ...AND SO ARE THE US AND UK. CONGRATULATIONS RIGHT-WING EGOISM! The Scandinavian and German welfare states are the only ones in West doing well and the only ones in the world where all citizens can realise their dreams. Pragmatic social-liberalism based on respect and compromise won the battles of ideologies in the end.
@johanwinston To say that those ideologies have won implies that the future is now. It is an ongoing struggle. Some ideologies are clearly better for some things but even the ideal countries like Germany have in the past had to reform their benefits systems because they have provided to much at times. Its an ongoing struggle and is not static, they're doing better in some regards now, doesn't mean it will always be the case.
@thehistoricalgamer Of course it's an ongoing battle! We might get something new ahead that works even better. Or we might turn back. There is no coincidence that the left-wing socialists are joining forces with the Green parties in Europe at the moment, from having been the worse polluters in the East. Having lost to the market economy (tamed or untamed) they see their only chance of revival in a discours where scarcity of earth's ressources would justify extreme State intervention.
It's Feb 2012 and modern day Libya is in shambles because the hypocritical US/Europe alliance, through UN, had used Nato/rebels to perpetrate crimes against humanity on the Libyan people. Things like Libya's development of the "gold dinar" currency to be used for oil-based transactions would have been problematic for the inflated (funny money status) of the euro/USD currencies. What about Libya's "Great Man-Made River Project" which was aimed at greatly extending Libya's agricultural sector.
It appears the standard of living Libyans had before the war will be appear again (at least in the near future) and Libya was more modern that countries like Saudi Arabia. Also, the media pumped up the war drums back in Feb 2011 with the help of that infamous twitter message sent out by a fake identity describing with fraudulent detail the supposed genocide situation in Libya at the time. Large numbers of dead bodies were not shown because this situation never arose, just lighter clashes ..
.. between opposing groups (~ 200 casualties on both sides). However, what was evident from the media after NATO//rebels took over was the targetting of Africans loyal to the Libyan government by rebels. Images came out showing these Africans lying in a row with hands cable-tied behind their backs and shot execution style. Human rights groups have charged NATO with war crimes perpetrated in Libya.
Love or loathe our Maggie, the one thing there can be no doubt about is that she was a legend. It is such a shame she lost control of her ego and buggered it up so badly with the poll tax, because she was spot on about the EU and for all her faults, she had more balls than any of our present day Government politicians. The poll tax was a major cock-up, but even it and some of her other less savoury policies were buggering up the UK considerable less than the EU is today.
What an awesome lady. Her words from decades ago about the Euro and Europe are ringing very sadly true. A pity that many didn't want to hear what she had to say, and even more a pity that the kind of leadership and friendship America and Britain had in the days of Reagan and Thatcher are only distant memories.
The Brits are the best friends an American can have--I say this both in my personal life and in the international political life. Such a great group of people over there (I know the whole Ireland "flap" is an issue and ultimately, Ireland being free is just and proper, but overall what a great lot!) They even had our backs in Iraq, despite their misgivings. That's a true friend. GOD SAVE AMERICA & GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
Thatcher was foolish to let America use British bases to bomb Libya, she interpreted European leader's reluctance to help America as weakness but it was a sensible move. In 1986 USA bomb Libya using British bases. 2 years later Libyan lader Muammar Gaddafi orders the bombing of Pan Am flight 103, not such a great move by Thaatcher after all. 270 people dead in the largest terrorist attack on British soil. France and the rest of continental Europe dodged a bullet.
@PTParatrooper You're in the forces so you are clearly of weak character, you have been groomed and brainwashed to commit atrocities upon the insttruction of people in Westminster who think you're scum. 270 lives is a price worth paying? If your family are ever killed by terrorists tell me that then.
@Henners1991 What threats? Give me an example of threats made against the UK by the Gaddafi regime prior to the USA bombing of Tripoli and Benghazi in 1986? As for illigtimate rulers, Thatcher supported the overthrow of Allende who was elected democatically and replacing him with Pinochet. If Gaddafi was so illegitimate why did the UK and USA sell him arms? Hypocrisy stinks, wake up you drone.
@nathfrancis01 I love it when someone brings up the Pinochet issue. Because most Thatcher supporters often don't have a clue about it as they are all buffoons.
@nathfrancis01 My logic was based on what you listed in your previous comment; not attacking Gaddafi due to fear of retribution, is, in essence, denying yourself action in the face of potential threats.
Why sell him arms? Because if we didn't someone else would have and it's ultimately beneficial to gain contracts for your own nation. Letting others have the pie in the name of morality is the path to insignificance.
@Henners1991 You say that we are right to sell dictators arms because economic prowess is more important than idealistic morality, that argument is repugnant. To say that the British public benefit from these arm sales would be a fallacy, big businesses and sharholders do but not the average Brit, but some average Brits mindlessly support them, these people are contemptible. I say that we gained nothing from the 1986 bombing, but lost a lot that is why I oppose it.
@nathfrancis01 the big businessmen who pay their workers' wages? Though arguments of 'job creation' are a bit redundant when talking about the defence industry, it's still 22,000 jobs. On top of that is keeping industries that we can't afford to have decline going. Is it not better that they accrue practical experience and technological progress than stagnate under governmental subsidy? This country's not yet handed its commitments over to the USA like the rest of Europe.
@nathfrancis01 I said that the British public don't benefit from arms deals, I acknowledged that the companies and shareholders do, you can extend that to contain employees of those companies as well, the point still stands. Also your point of technological progress is irrelevant because the arms we sold Libya were not sophiticated. I am not advocating the destruction of the UK arms industry just opposing the sale of arms to tyrants.
@nathfrancis01 If factories and shipyards aren't being used then they shan't be preserved. Period. You must remember the hullaballoo about shipyards closing down?
@nathfrancis01 How long do you think an idle factory/shipyard lasts? Skills decay, y',know. And in many cases, 'contemporary' gear is sold to 'repugnant' nations; where do you think the Argentinians got their Exocets? Perfectly capable of sinking British ships.
@Henners1991 The British government authorized the sale of tear gas and crowd cvontrol ammunition to Libya and other despotic regimes, these weapons are only used in oppression against citizens, they are no use against a foreign army. More importantly though, you advocate the selling of arms to tyrants because " if we don't sell them arms someone else will", and you ended your first comment to me with the sentence "nice morality there", hypocisy? Check out the CAAT website it's very informative.

Yep, Americans learned what the Europeans think of war in Rwanda in 1994 and again in Sarajevo in 1993-98. How about Syria 2012? The European solution is to take everything to the Security Council of the UN for the inevitable veto of Russia or China and then put their heads in the sand and lament 'but we tried everything'...Europeans need to clue in that the reason Russia and China don't want UN involvement generalized is because they are fearful that attention ultimately will be focused on them

@mcca99: "Seeing America for the complete shithole that it is." Where are you from, my friend? I noticed that most of your "favorited" you tube clips are songs by American singers/bands. Something tells me you are from the US.
How wonderful it is to have people like yourself in the country; you call your own country a "COMPLETE" shithole on youtube (US invention), using the internet (US invention), on a computer (US invention).
Move away for a bit and perhaps you shall reconsider.
@mlc2005 ha. The same America that cant provide free health care for its citizen's? The same America that in MANY places isnt safe to walk the streets? I could go on but i really cannot be bothered. As ive said many times, before America goes galavanting around the globe trying to solve ''rougue nations'' maybe they should look at the state of there own country.
Im from the UK by the way so please dont jump to conclusions about a stranger you dont know from adam. Many thanks.
@mcca99: I would suggest not making sweeping generalizations about a country you don't live in. But if you want to think America is a shit hole, that's cool; just remember all the things from the US that you enjoy and take for granted.
@mlc2005 What bit was a generalization? Would you disagree with me about the unsafe streets? There are parts of LA for example that are terrible for a country that is suppose to be an ''example'' to the rest of the world.. No health care system either, if you cant afford it you are left for dead more a less.. It is shocking and laughable as i said that the US after all this thinks it can tell the likes of Iran how to do things.
By the way the Romans gave us more than the US ever will.
@mcca99 The Romans gave us more than anyone except the Greeks and perhaps the Arabs. That said I live in the US have spent extensive time in the UK and Germany. Europe isn't some heaven compared to the US like you make it out to be. In fact the countries are very similar. Health care is handled differently and thats certainly improvable (everyone's treated though) Berlin has some parts just as nasty as any part of LA and crime exists everywhere parts of Europe have real knife crime probs
@thehistoricalgamer Where have i said Europe is some kind of heaven? Please tell me?The difference is many European Countrys France and Germany to name but too keep themselves too themselves and dont bang on about how they need to travel the globe solving other countrys problems. The USA just piss people off and have done for years, throwing there weight around the globe is the main reason. It makes me sick as a brit that we follow you idiots into wars, really angers me.
I dont know wheather you are American or not but the sooner you realise some parts of the US are closer to the 3rd world then the western world the better! Good day sir!
I dont know if you are American or not but the sooner you realise that parts of the US are closer in resemblance to the third world then the western world the better.
@mcca99 Parts of any 1st world country have nasty ghettos that resemble the 3rd world. The difference is that in a 1st world country like the USA, UK and Germany those parts are a small % of the country. 3rd world countries however, that's the 99%.
@mcca99 No health care is free. It's always paid for by someone. I'm not saying universal healthcare is a bad thing, but to say it's free is simply ignorant. Many European countries that have "universal" healthcare have had to or tried to redo how they handle healthcare because the programs initiated were too expensive. A few years ago France proposed reform to cut costs. Clearly it's not FREE.
Toooooo awesome for words way too awesome. Sad we don't have people like her or Regan in power today. Which is a huge reason why everything's such a mess.
fantastic women, crying out for someone like her now. This country is weak at the moment, full of liberals that need a good old kick up the back side.
How can people genuinely support this woman or find her "inspiring"? She scares the hell out of me, "they're a weak lot....WEAK, FEEBLE" she sounds just like a fucking villain from star wars
So sad..to think we had Churchill and Thatcher, how they loved Britain..now we got this lying weasel David ( you can have a referendum ) Cameron. god help the U.K
Go Margaret. You tell them. She saw the problems of joining the EU currency along time ago and look at the mess their in now!!! BRING MAGGIE BACK! I LOVE U MAGGIE.
The great thing about this woman is that she was absolutely correct in fighting the initial call to relinquish the Pound Sterling and join the European Union. MT well and truly let GB in a much better position.
@LordViczerez@LordViczerez was she not in power when Europe finally allowed them to join after years of Britain begging on hands and knees and then turned round and then came out with a fuck u europe speech, if Britain screws Europe and they go down Britain will be dragged down or if Europe survives they will say to themselves Britain can go fuck themselves and then Britain will go down anyway.
The women is absolutely right. She had the guts to take a stand and bring Britain back from the horrible 1970's. And to stand with America and cement our bonds.
It makes you think... how far Britain is sunk again on the international ladder. There wher Mrs Tatcher brought Brintain back on the map of international politics. All the governments after her just could not hold that position.
It's a crying shame that we can't have Mags now bitchslapping Sarkozy and everyone else trying to prop up the house of cards that is the European Union.
Whatever you think of that viewpoint (and I don't really agree), isn't it refreshing to have a plain speaking polititian who says what she really thinks, rather than saying basically nothing out of fear of offending someone? Too few of them around.
Yes including that little scumbag Sarkozy - she wouldn't have taken the shit that Cameron did when he ignored him - she'd have pummelled that little bastard into the ground - and never let him forget it.
@StellandBlood retarded is calling Thatcher a fascist. Youre like a little spoiled child, who calls everybody a Nazi who doesnt abide your childish will. But I guess thats what "liberals" and leftists are in general: spoiled childs with a firm will not to become adults.
@shanekeane200123456 The UK gave the US it's culture, democracy, it's foundations of it's Bill of Rights, it's democracy and much besides, while France it's respect for it's Republic and, of course, the Statue of Liberty.. Suez was an affair with the French, you'll understand that your Afro-negro roots don't get a mention here.
@shanekeane200123456 You are so very deluded! What of the drone that Iran caught, do you really think the US doesn't abuse it's position, come off it! My reference to NATO was based on the Anglo relationship between the UK and US only, it's history cements this.
I know the US faltered in its understanding of the British position, but it still supported us, precisely because of the reasons above!
Your an Obamatard, trying to get back at your forefathers plight, oh dear!
@shanekeane200123456 Ah, you're one of those... well for your information Reagan made their Airforce base on Ascension Island available at a moments notice, siding with Britain and blamed the Argentinians for their actions - it's a communist thing, if you understand you history.
If you seriously think that the US don't fly planes where you like then you only confirm my fears that you undermine the NATO relationship, which relies heavily on the UK alliance - think Iraq.
@shanekeane200123456 Well it turns out it was. Besides, Thatcher is complaining that they're weak, that's just it, we're both Anglo-Saxon and so we think and behave alike, thus we are their natural counterpart (only that monkey Obama thinks otherwise).
The fuel costs are negligible, it's the cost of war.
@shanekeane200123456 What are you talking about, the USA is closer to us, if they wanted to fit missiles (which are quite capable) then they could have come to us, as they did.

Move away for a bit and perhaps you shall reconsider.
mlc2005 4 days ago
@mlc2005 ha. The same America that cant provide free health care for its citizen's? The same America that in MANY places isnt safe to walk the streets? I could go on but i really cannot be bothered. As ive said many times, before America goes galavanting around the globe trying to solve ''rougue nations'' maybe they should look at the state of there own country.
Im from the UK by the way so please dont jump to conclusions about a stranger you dont know from adam. Many thanks.
mcca99 4 days ago
@mcca99: I would suggest not making sweeping generalizations about a country you don't live in. But if you want to think America is a shit hole, that's cool; just remember all the things from the US that you enjoy and take for granted.
mlc2005 4 days ago
@mlc2005 What bit was a generalization? Would you disagree with me about the unsafe streets? There are parts of LA for example that are terrible for a country that is suppose to be an ''example'' to the rest of the world.. No health care system either, if you cant afford it you are left for dead more a less.. It is shocking and laughable as i said that the US after all this thinks it can tell the likes of Iran how to do things.
By the way the Romans gave us more than the US ever will.
mcca99 4 days ago
@mcca99 The Romans gave us more than anyone except the Greeks and perhaps the Arabs. That said I live in the US have spent extensive time in the UK and Germany. Europe isn't some heaven compared to the US like you make it out to be. In fact the countries are very similar. Health care is handled differently and thats certainly improvable (everyone's treated though) Berlin has some parts just as nasty as any part of LA and crime exists everywhere parts of Europe have real knife crime probs
thehistoricalgamer 3 days ago
@thehistoricalgamer Where have i said Europe is some kind of heaven? Please tell me?The difference is many European Countrys France and Germany to name but too keep themselves too themselves and dont bang on about how they need to travel the globe solving other countrys problems. The USA just piss people off and have done for years, throwing there weight around the globe is the main reason. It makes me sick as a brit that we follow you idiots into wars, really angers me.
mcca99 3 days ago
I dont know wheather you are American or not but the sooner you realise some parts of the US are closer to the 3rd world then the western world the better! Good day sir!
mcca99 4 days ago
I dont know if you are American or not but the sooner you realise that parts of the US are closer in resemblance to the third world then the western world the better.
mcca99 4 days ago
@mcca99 Parts of any 1st world country have nasty ghettos that resemble the 3rd world. The difference is that in a 1st world country like the USA, UK and Germany those parts are a small % of the country. 3rd world countries however, that's the 99%.
thehistoricalgamer 3 days ago
@mcca99 No health care is free. It's always paid for by someone. I'm not saying universal healthcare is a bad thing, but to say it's free is simply ignorant. Many European countries that have "universal" healthcare have had to or tried to redo how they handle healthcare because the programs initiated were too expensive. A few years ago France proposed reform to cut costs. Clearly it's not FREE.

The great thing about this woman is that she was absolutely correct in fighting the initial call to relinquish the Pound Sterling and join the European Union. MT well and truly let GB in a much better position.

@LordViczerez @LordViczerez was she not in power when Europe finally allowed them to join after years of Britain begging on hands and knees and then turned round and then came out with a fuck u europe speech, if Britain screws Europe and they go down Britain will be dragged down or if Europe survives they will say to themselves Britain can go fuck themselves and then Britain will go down anyway.

The women is absolutely right. She had the guts to take a stand and bring Britain back from the horrible 1970's. And to stand with America and cement our bonds.

Whatever you think of that viewpoint (and I don't really agree), isn't it refreshing to have a plain speaking polititian who says what she really thinks, rather than saying basically nothing out of fear of offending someone? Too few of them around.

Skandalos 2 weeks ago
@shanekeane200123456 The UK gave the US it's culture, democracy, it's foundations of it's Bill of Rights, it's democracy and much besides, while France it's respect for it's Republic and, of course, the Statue of Liberty.. Suez was an affair with the French, you'll understand that your Afro-negro roots don't get a mention here.
Sore for this?
fleemonstay 2 months ago
@shanekeane200123456 You are so very deluded! What of the drone that Iran caught, do you really think the US doesn't abuse it's position, come off it! My reference to NATO was based on the Anglo relationship between the UK and US only, it's history cements this.
I know the US faltered in its understanding of the British position, but it still supported us, precisely because of the reasons above!
Your an Obamatard, trying to get back at your forefathers plight, oh dear!
fleemonstay 2 months ago
@shanekeane200123456 Ah, you're one of those... well for your information Reagan made their Airforce base on Ascension Island available at a moments notice, siding with Britain and blamed the Argentinians for their actions - it's a communist thing, if you understand you history.
If you seriously think that the US don't fly planes where you like then you only confirm my fears that you undermine the NATO relationship, which relies heavily on the UK alliance - think Iraq.
Obama will be gone soon.
fleemonstay 2 months ago
@shanekeane200123456 Well it turns out it was. Besides, Thatcher is complaining that they're weak, that's just it, we're both Anglo-Saxon and so we think and behave alike, thus we are their natural counterpart (only that monkey Obama thinks otherwise).
The fuel costs are negligible, it's the cost of war.
fleemonstay 2 months ago
@shanekeane200123456 I see that (although Italy is closer) but we are their natural counterpart.
fleemonstay 2 months ago
@shanekeane200123456 What are you talking about, the USA is closer to us, if they wanted to fit missiles (which are quite capable) then they could have come to us, as they did.
fleemonstay 2 months ago
Fucking nice one, I want that today!
I got to say though, why did the Yanks go to the Continentals before coming to us?
fleemonstay 3 months ago
@fleemonstay Probably because the Continentals were closer, thus saving a bit in energy costs...
