  • at one point the Baltimore Colts held the record for consecutive sellout games. the Baltimore Colts had 15 consecutive non looseing seasons till Irsay took over. in the 15 seasos before Irsay the Baltimore Colts were 138-59 winning percentage of 70%. Sence Irsay took over they were 68-104 winning percentage of 39%. thats an amazind differance.

  • Good Move Art WTF, Paul Brown got minorities into the NFL if it wern't for him guys like Lenny Moore and Jim Parker would have never played a single down in pro football you don't fire guys like that you let them retire on their own will. Plus ever hear of Bill Walsh? That man was founded by Paul Brown AFTER ART FIRED HIM!!!

I'd say firing Paul Brown is what punched Art Modell's ticket out of the NLF HOF.

  • @tedkissel --- actually AL Davis found Walsh in 1966. BEFORE brown. and about the minorities you are you refering to? Motley? because about 30 years befor that "Fritz" Pollard was a player and a coach for the Akron Indians. and as my previous comment stated they IMPROVED AFTER BROWN WAS FIRED. Modell made the right call.

  • @58ravenfan

No he didn't shiortly after Paul Brown was fired Jim Brown went into early retirement. Plus last I checked Emlin Tunnel (who I might add Paul Brown was around before was the first african american to play in professional football (well at least since it's been expanded past the mid west) Fitz Pollard played football at a time when the NFL was barley even a sport and the Chicago Cardinals were the only team that is still around today.

  • @tedkissel ----- i looked up the first balck profesional football player and Polard and another guy came up. Polard is a guy most people heard of and he was a player and coach so thats why I put his name in there.

  • @58ravenfan

Now I will give credit where credit is due Art Modell moving the Browns to Baltimore may have been an unpopular move BUT it was the correct one. Their stadium was about to fall to pieces, but Modell still clearly should have known better then to give the city of Baltimore any type of document to sign stating that the Browns would keep their name and history when they moved.

  • @tedkissel

Explain to me again how that was the right move? I'm a Browns fan, so you'd have a pretty hard time convincing me that Modell isn't the scum of the Earth. In truth all you really have to look at if you want to see Modell in action is the firing of Paul Brown. I mean really? That speaks volumes. Brown was better at EVERYTHING than Modell and it was easy to see that. On another note, Brown turned down the job as the NFL commissioner sometime in the 60's or 70's.

  • @suny123boy1

Dude you need to read my post, I was saying Modell firing Paul Brown was clearly the wrong move because if it wern't for Paul Brown guys like Jim Parker and Lenny Moore would have never played a single down in football. Not to mention the fact that he won 6 championships. You don't fire legends like Paul Brown, you let them walk. And I was saying that Modell firing Paul Brown punched his ticket out of the NFL HOF.

  • @58ravenfan

Plus Bob Irsay wanted to move the Colts because of their low attendance and just used their stadium being old, not built for football and not having enough good seats as an excuse to move the team due to their low attendance (well I guess he still cared about the stadium being imporved too but not near as much as low attendance). Modell's move with the Browns was all about their stadium falling apart and he was right.

  • @tedkissel --- thats the differance between Modell and irsay. Modell wanted to stay but couldnt. irsay just didnt care. the low attendance is because irsay himself screwed the team up.

  • @58ravenfan

Again, Modell fired PAUL BROWN. Don't you get it? It's easy to understand why you don't with a screen name like 58ravensfan, jesus. Brown's record at Massilon High school: 80-8-2, record at OSU 18-8-1 including the University's first national championship, record at Cleveland: 111-44-6 7 conference titles in 13 seasons. Brown had more football knowledge in his pinky then Modell ever did. Also, you forgot about Ernie Davis. Your knowledge seems to be lacking severely.

  • so obviously Modell made an unpoplular move BUT it was the correct one.

  • They were better AFTER he fired him. in Collier 8 seasons there they had 5 playoff aperances and in Browns last 8 he went to only 3. brown's winng percentage in those last 8 seasons was 64% while collier's was 69%. and that was NO years with Otto Grahm and only the last 3 years of jim brown. the ONLY year Paul Brown didnt have Otto or Jim Brown they didnt make the playoffs but in 5 years without either Brown or Otto collier's browns made it to the playoffs 3 times.
