My guitar teacher has an Ibanez JEM and when he bends a string, say 12th fret B (2nd) string and keeping the bend, then plays the 12th fret E (1st) string, the E string is out of tune as long as the bend on the 2nd string is kept. Would the tremolo on the JPX cause the same kind of phenomena? For me, this is a deal breaker, because if it does the same thing, I'm going to a fixed bridge guitar (Eclipse maybe...).
@seth3556r Yeah, I was afraid of that, but it's such a nice guitar, and knowing that I could eventually add a part/system that could take care of the problem, I might just reconsider and get one.
Thank you so much for replying, it's been a lot of help.
yeah of course. check out the tremol-no and the hipshot trem-setter. btw, if u by chance get a guitar for the purpose of a whammy bar, get a locking tremolo. the sychronized is not what u want.
I played one at the Guitar Center in Houston and the guy there just about had to pry it from my hands. It played like butter. The cooler thing than playing it was that I was going to see Dream Theater that day for the fisrt time!!!!!This dumb ass little kid wanking on a strat knocked into its headstock to. I wanted to slap him with the guitar.
@mistercurls I'm surprised that your Guitar Center had a JP-X out on the Sales Floor for "The Kids" to ding or at least not placed high enough that it can't be grabbed by anyone and must be taken down by staff. Mine has it behind the counter with the high-end Les Pauls, Signature & Custom Shop Fenders, and non-SE PRS models - I was picking up a bass that I had a pickup & preamp installation, and had to ask for it to be taken down just to show my wife the finish (killer!) and body changes.
I love the John Petrucci Models. Out of hundreds of guitars that I've played, the John Petrucci Music Man is by far the best in Quality and Tone. It's so comfortable! I have the original JP with the unfinished Bird's Eye Maple Neck, So damn Beautiful. I prefer my original to the newer models.
i had the pleasure and luck of getting to play a jpx that guitar center just got in next to an original jp bfr and i have to say that the jpx is superior in tone and feel the body is more balanced and the neck is more comfortable and the tone is great there are only 2 things i wasn't huge on and that's the finished neck and the neck pickup is too warm and gets muddy pretty easily
@brandon5pennies It's interesting that you mention that you think "the neck is more comfortable" on the JP-X, as it's actually one of the few things that's stayed exactly the same in terms of size and string-spacing since the original production models hit the stores in late 2000/early 2001 along with the non-locking/piezo-equipped bridge & locking tuners. The BFRs and JPXs have a clearcoat as opposed to the MM Oil & Wax finish, but other than that it's one thing that has remained constant.
alot of people don't like it, but thats just because some people take time to deal with change.
granted i haven't played the new one, but if petrucci endorses it, i'm sure its just as good as the original. and also, i'm not a huge fan of the dark purple with the black hardward, but we all know tons of colours are going to come out. i think a flat black, or bright white would look great with it, or a deep red
@TheKingoftheriff: You're definitely not the only one, bro. A bunch of people like it. I should be getting mine in a week or two (it should be on its way from Ernie Ball shortly).
such thick strings? :O nearly like my bass

@massif20022000 all tremolo featured guitars do that naturally. they also have parts that you can buy to fix that...

is this a ball family reserve
ishwar565 7 months ago
@ishwar565 Yes, you can tell which MMs are by looking at the 12th fret. If there is a "Ball Family Reserve" logo it's a BFR.

@AYONPA
coils 1+2 series
coils 1+4 parallel
both pickups series
coils 2+3 parallel
coils 3+4 series
Hope that helps. I own the 7 string version of the JPX and it's hands down the best guitar I've ever played.

@scarred2112 the neck shape is the same the ebony fingerboard instead of rosewood just makes it more comfortable for shredding
