When a hawk eats a chicken, that's a bird eating a bird. When a hornet eats a butterfly larva, that's an insect eating an insect. Same difference, but they are not cannibals. And in scientific truth to their relation with one another, a false vampire bat is about as closely related to a ghost bat as that hawk is to the chicken it hunts.

The term's outdated, but let's face it, it's more exciting for readers. Everyone uses it. I was only adding it because this said "vampire bat" and mentioned Dracula and the other stereotypical nonsense. It's hardly as big a misconception as those. If anything, at least the footage shows what they really hunt some of the time.

I live in japan and i go 2 the swings at night sometimes (9pm-12pm) in a park surrounded by trees. As I start swinging while listening to music that's loud on earphones. a bat flies wrecklessly farley far from me but gradually gets closer as it reapeats a cycle.

I do not know whether the bat is planning on attacking me or just looking for food or scared?

Bats are blind, they send signals that bounce of objects to locate where they are, so they are very clumsy creatures. They eat bugs and plants, and like this guy said, they sometimes eat their own kind... Bats have no motive of attacking you and they are far from evil (so they wont plan an attack on you LOL!). And second of all, why would you go swinging at night? You should be more worried of humans attacking you...

its probably because mosquitos are attracted to your body heat and buzz around you. Do you have a lot of bites? If you do then the bat is probably attracted to the mosquitoes not you. It probably got closer because it knows you could hurt it but gradually became more comfortable with you. Bat's dont attack people unless they're defending themselves or their young, so it's probably nothing to worry about, then again i dont know much about japanese bat species
