Really if you take into account all the religions and what religions have always really meant to us during those periods, since there were plenty who created different religions and 'prophets' that never caught on...

People did their best to vote for a candidate that seemed to be more moderate compared to that Ahmaghineghad. The criteria for judging the effectiveness of a political system should be how the Gov. treats its subjects; whether it promotes their standard of living, whether it allows people to have a say in the decisions that shape their lives. Judging by that standard, the IR gets a big "F" for the last 30 consecutive years, and Shah's gharbzadeh regime gets a "C" which is much better. At least, under his reign, people had a better standard of living; education was free, health care was very inexpensive.

But the problem with being friends with the West is that they will take advantage of you and you will be their slave whether its for oil or money. I agree with you that the regime has to go. And besides, the US and the West have caused enough trouble in the world and enough genocide. Why not even be friends with Russia and China? They're the strongest countries in the world with the most nukes, planes, and weapons. They defeated NATO in most cases in the cold war such as the Vietnam war.

I am not saying America is perfect. They deserved to lose the war in Vietnam, because it was none of their business to interfere with the affairs of a country 1000 miles away. As for being friends with Russia and China, just ask Polish, E. German, Czeck, and Hungarian people about their lost love and respect for Russians! They join NATO not because of love for America, but because of fear of Russia. Now Ukraine and Georgia are experiencing the same fear. As for China, ask Indians, and Tabatis!

So why do you want to be friends with the West and become a slave to them and let them take over parts of your resources?Why did they fear Russia? They were slavic just like the Russians. The United States also failed to stop the USSR from advancing and they failed to prevent the creation of the Warsaw Pact with the countries of Hungary, Ukraine, Georgia, etc.. This shows that the USSR was stronger than NATO combined.

Any self respecting nation could become friends with others based on mutual respect. However, we are living in a jungle. Politics is the art of possibilities. Yes, America is not perfect: It has staged coups against democratically elected Gov's. of Alende and Mossadegh; it unconditionally supports Israel, and... Yet, with communist regimes like USSR, you become their slaves. Just ask the Eastern European countries. With America, there is room to communicate and address your grievenses:

At least Iraq lost the war even with about 5 or 6 allies. Did you know that the Western and arab countries helped Saddam with his WMDs? especially Germany. They killed millions of Iranians. Big countries cannot be true friends with each other, such as USA and India, because the USA aids the smaller country against the bigger country. About the election, how do we know it's truly rigged? Do we have any evidence besides protests? Do you think that if Mousavi won, there wouldn't be protests?

Under Clinton and Obama, America has apologized for 1953 coup in Iran. Have the Russians apologized Polish people for their massacres during WW II, and their dominance during the Cold War?! As for the rigged elections: the gov. refuses a recount! If the gov. hasn't done anything wrong, why not a recount under internation observers. The gov.'s refusal for a recount is your best evidence for a rigged elections. Also, before all the votes were counted, Khamenei recognized Ahm-neghad as the winner!

I am against the Islamic Republic. I have one question: Why are people against Ahmadinejad? He has no power whatsoever, he can't kill anyone, he makes great speeches, and he seems to understand what is morally right and wrong. Are people against him just because he resists western countries? Because nuclear rights are not something anyone would want to give up.
