Hitler's big blunder in the east was not winning the hearts and minds of the Ukrainians, Belorussians and even the Russians. German armies were met with cheers and support early on in the campaign. But Nazi racial policy and brutal occupation policies pretty much alienated the populaces of those regions. Had the Germans actually been liberators they could have enjoyed massive manpower (recruits) and maybe even sparked off a rebellion against the Soviet regime.

I wonder what the French thought as they sat there, occupied, watching the Soviets fight back? Had the French actually fought back and bloodied Hitler's nose the Soviets wouldn't have to lose MILLIONS of people doing what the French could have done in May 1940. France had lost the war before the 1st shot was fired. Obsolete air force, ground warfare still thinking in terms of WW1 trench warfare doctrine, most Amour not in Armored Divisions, and their defense line was weakistwhere the Germans struck with most their Amour. Once they broke through that line at Verdun France was doomed. You don't win the next war by using the equipment and tactics of the last 1 France had no space to give for time like Russia.

Hitler called the succes at Kiev the greatest victory ever, several of his best generals called it the greatest strategic mistake ever.

This time all those generals were more then right to first go for Moscow, if theres any strategic question i could ask Hitler it would be why he considered Kiev more vital then Moscow at that point.
