they are no longer part of the geophagus genus, although they are still eartheaters. they belong to the group satanoperca or 'satan's perch'. Beautiful specimen you have there and the correct ID.

great chichlid i want 1! lol. i had 2 cichlids back in the day when i 1st got into fish. they were just the basic cichlids though. only problem was they were mean as hell and ended killin each other so from then on ive tried 2 stay away from these fish, but after seein this i want 1! hehe. this cichlid get along ok with other fish?

Its a very nice Geophagus Jurupari. Its not a hybrid of any sort...I have 3 of them in my tank right now.

Thanks. Yes, they are commonly sold under that name in stores but I've been told that that is not the right name for these.

Mine doesn't look this stunning however, he looks more like a Jack Dempsey really, but he does have those aqua scales which make him look gorgeous.
