And you can spin it away from you, actually, when i spin sticks lefty they always go away. You just have more control if the heavy end of the stick comes toward you.

I do a kind of crazy version of this... Twisting my wrist and going between thumb, pointer, middle and ring fingers - still the fake spin but looks less fake and more crazy. Try it out.

If you think about it....if you spin forward you physically have to stop the drum stick and push it away from you to spin the stick forward. This is why I teach the method I use. Up to you what you want to do. It's all about the Chicks!!!

@ghaoticc If you learn lesson one it sets the seed to switch on this type of spin. If I am spinning in the first two fingers ...I drop my third finger and it catches the stick on the next rotation. The stick actually flips so that the head of the stick goes to the other side of your hand. You Rock! Thanks for the comments!

Thanks for all the Positive comments...Just a quick comment on all versions of spinning. With all types it is MOMENTUM that keeps everything going through all your fingers and what keeps the stick from sliding up and down. When you are going slow sometimes it seems harder. Once you are able to gain some momentum everything will begin to "fall" into place.

KEEP PRACTICING...AND ALWAYS REMEMBER...Stick spinning is not about drumming and all about the CHICKS! YOU ROCK!

thanks so much for this but umm i will offer some adivce to fellow learners that i found help full i just learnd to do it fluently and ive been trying for a about 7 minutes already i found my self squeezing the stick between my fingers cause it would fall out but its actually more about getting the moumentum by rotateing your hand the right way so grasp the stick just enough for it to stay in place while not moving

pretty sweet dude. now when i do a stick spin, i do it at the base of my middle and index finger. and i never have any kind of problem gettin it to spin. once you get momentum going its not a prob at all

To each their own. I do this spin all the time, but I start the momentum down closer to my palm then move it up above my knuckles.

Oh and I learned to spin it away from me. Then I learned to spin it towards me. Next I learned how to switch between the two quickly. Now THAT looks awesome on stage.

Hey, thanks for posting these videos, you are very talented at stick spinning! Question though: Why do you recommend always spinning toward you, and not away? Does it have to do with spinning off of a rebound, or is there another reason why? I ask because I have no problem spinning away from me, but can't spin it toward me to save my life (or to save the stick from flying out of my hands) Maybe it's a result of me being left handed. @masamune2984 You are correct...it has to do with teh way the stick is coming back to you after you strike a cymbal or drum. To spin away you would have to stop the stick and turn it the opposite direction. When you spin towards you it is already turning in the direction of teh stick moving. There is no right way or wrong way. Do what is best for you. This is just a tip! Thanks for the comment! You Rock!!! Remember. Stick spinning is all about the chicks!!!
