This is the worst kind of emotional appeal coupled with an argument from ignorance. "I don't know the ratio" says it all - he has no idea what the process is, what it does, how it works or what the risks are. Instead he plays on the audience's ignorance and fear of "chemicals", because neither they nor Jamie know anything about them. The meat he wants to throw away could be perfectly good food, if you know how to handle it. Sure there are risks in any process, but emotional appeals smell of BS.
@McCannonneer way to start a civil discussion with insults.. Anyway, I did provide a reason in my comment, go try and find it (hint: it's in the sentence right before the one you criticized). Perhaps in your culture it's okay to throw away good food, but elsewhere people fight starvation all their life. Also, you obviously didn't know that ammonium hydroxide is classified "GRAS" by the FDA; look it up. I'm not advocating for poisoning people, but if it's safe, why not use it?
@totoritko Do not patronized me for my reading comprehension. I know what you said and I still say it is idiotic. By the way,, I am an American who has standards. It may be difficult for you to understand that I accept a higher level of food intake. But here is a wise statement. "If you are what you eat, then I only want the good stuff." Otherwise, you are eating trash.
@McCannonneer Obviously you didn't understand, as I wasn't talking about food standards at all. I was talking about a risk-benefit analysis of food production and dishonest scare tactics used by Jamie Oliver. Customers want cheap produce, the market provides it. Where's the problem? Nourishment-wise, "pink slime" is just as good as any meat (*it is* meat).
Also, how do you apply this standard of yours? How do you rank food quality? What parameters do you consider for meat?
@totoritko So myself, being a consumer. Should accept the risk of having my food (the product I take in everyday) having being tainted by this "pink shit?" There is no way to cover the truth; you cannot argue that eating this stuff is healthy in any way shape or form. By the way, before you start with your smart ass shit, I go to places such as farmer markets and the local Meat Market to get my food. Or perhaps you cannot tell me what is rotten and good you ignorant cunt.
@McCannonneer Calling me names simply demonstrates how weak your position is. I was asking you about how you objectively define meat quality, and all you do is come back with personal insults and dismiss any arguments out of hand. You also seem completely oblivious to the fact that "pink slime" *is* meat and that ammonia hydroxide is in your body. I am quite frankly tired of trying to have a sensible discussion with somebody who clearly only wants to troll around on public forums.

BECAUSE OF THIS MAN, Jamie Oliver, I NOW choose the cut I like, at Publix, where shopping is a pleasure (I mainly buy beef and water here:), and I have the butcher (such a 40's concept:) grind it for me! I think it costs me maybe anywhere from 50 cents more to 50 cents less, per pound, than the lean-ground-beef I use to buy, but I know I am not being fed polluted garbage that has been fumigated or sterilized! I am so outraged!
I shop at Publix, because they do NOT use carbon monoxide to make red meat stay red longer! If you buy pressurized-clear-plastic (Walmart) then IT LOOKS fresher than it actually is!
It really doesn't matter whether or not Jamie Oliver is a high end chef or not. Fine dining, casual dining or fast food, there is a standard and we should hope that anything we put into our bodies from any organization is something that we would approve of. When you walk into a restaurant or McDonalds, you expect to be fed something that isn't going to lead to some disease.
I applaud this man for doing this. People have to wake the fuck up and stop eating sub standar slop. It's not that expensive to live a healthy life. I'm not on such a hot salary myself, and I live a pretty damn good, healthy lifestyle. You just have to put a little bit of effort into your food and you'll feel brilliant!
This is why I'm proud when people call me "odd" when I refuse to eat out, unless I know what's in my food. I'm proud when people call me a hippy, when I make food from scratch. This is why I Love Jamie Oliver and have been watching when he was the Naked Chef!
FDA is joke....guess who runs it? ppl from from agribusiness, ranching business, pharma companies...their only gonna tell as little as possible, as much that keeps u buying their stuff.
And another thing: Reconsider your whole eating! You only want whats good for you. ASK YOURSELF what is good for you and your health. THERE IS NOTHING MORE MUNDAINE IN LIFE THAN YOUR HEALTH. Healthy food can taste fucking good - just get away from the damn advertisment which suggerates you: Only massive flavoured junk tastes good. Bullshit and bullshit again!
Uh Jamie? USDA United States Department of Agriculture. Exist to maximize the profits of agriculture in the US, not protect the consumer of agricultural products. The US Food and Drug Administration is supposed to protect consumers, but most likely is hamstrung at every turn by those protecting the profits of agribusiness, and other in the US food chain.
To get "good" for you ground beef at the supermarket U will first have to buy more expensive cuts of beef for them to grind up in front of you. More likely than than not the freshly ground beef they sell is mechanically separated ground beef at arrives in big frozen blocks Perhaps the ground chuck & ground sirloin is ground from their name sake, I'm sure the less expensive ground beef you buy isn't any better than what we seen here.
There kids are fucked up with mental problems. It's from this process and all the others for food drinks and everything whatever happened to good hole some food with good quality? This process needs to be labeled on all food products that undergo this bottom line
It's all about the money. The government poisons it's ppl to make the drug company's and everyone in that field rich while us working foke get fucked over by low grade barley eatable meat. I say go out and hunt. Get ur own food learn how to process or take it to ur local butcher for processing. What I say is take a government run food company and have them eat that shit and not tell them and when they get all mest up and what not tell them what they have been eating. And ppl wonder why the ther
Alway cook your ground beef to at least 320 degrees. This kills all the saminila, and other bacteria associated with the product. Then there would be no need for pink slime. Oh yeah I forgot fast food restaurants don't have the time to actually cook there burgers.
This holds true for big box grocers as well. If it doesn't say cook to 320 degrees on the package, don't buy it.
This is why McDonalds is such a SHIT HOLE. And so are the other fast food places. How many other things are they still doing to poison us. All these big corporations and the government are run by psychopaths and sociopaths.
I was always wondering why I get stomache ache after my MacDonald's visits. Guess now I know.... ick... This is disgusting. No more fast-food for me, thanks.
send those people from corrupt companies and authorities who allowed this for childrens food, burgers etc. to afghanistan! the taliban know what to do with idiots like them.
Thanks for sharing buddy, now I know why my body refuses burgers for the last 12 months, haven´t had one in since being in New Zealand. I think I will rather not eat minced if I don´t know where it´s from... Thanks again :)
Honestly this is somewhat also peoples fault, always wanting the cheapest products they can find... Would we actually care where our stuff comes from and be WILLING to pay a bit more for our grass-fed beef from the butcher close to us who knows where his meet is coming from.. This whole thing would be different. Yes, they should label where the meat comes from. But most people still wouldn't care and buy the cheapest shit they can find, explains why its so hard to find good meat in my country.
@MrBrotmafia As I can only write short texts: Market is about supply and demand. People need to start becoming more aware about healthy good food, then the supply will change. Mac Donalds doesn't sell cheap food because it wants to but because thats what the people buy and thus what they can sell and profit on. They fullfill peoples needs, not the other way around. We should all look at ourselves and our own fridge first.
@MrBrotmafia If you're below the poverty line, do you think you can afford quality meat? Everyone wants to feed their family the best, but that's if you can afford to. Buying fast food that uses meat like this is a cheap alternative to spending hundreds on groceries every month. There are tough choices that people have to make. You should be thankful you don't have to make them. Don't blame the people that do. It's companies that take advantage of their need.
@SherrxLi What is mac donalds supposed to do? Sell high quality steaks? Then they need to increase the price and then the poor people can't eat it anyway. Thats just the way it is, good meat is expensive, there is nothing mc donalds can do about that. What I see mostly is people trying to save 100$ a month on food that they then spend on random stuff they don't really need... Food in general has a low priority in most peoples lives, they rather buy an expensive mobile phone then food.
@MrBrotmafia It's called standards. If Mcdonald's USA chooses to use pink slime and do this, it's because they're allowed to. It's the fault of the government and the company who takes advantage of it. In fact I think it's only the US who uses pink slime. If McDonald's Canada can use good quality beef for cheap prices, then the US should too. I don't want to argue (or offend you) but it seems like you don't understand what poor really means, or care...
@SherrxLi Market works very well as you can see. As soon as people knew about the pink slime shit, mac donalds changed it. No need for government as long as there are people like Jamie Oliver that show us disgusting stuff like that. And because some people at least are interested in the end this got changed. Thats why I want to tell, people have the chance to change what is offered by making choices. You and me. We can't always give all responsibility to government.
@MrBrotmafia Everyone makes choices, you're right, we're responsible as well, but it's not always easy to make the right choices especially when there are other circumstances that may affect your decision. But you're right. It's just not as easy as you make it seem.
I love this video! Normally, parents will feed or eat nuggets because they are the cheapest. Surprise! McD's and other fast food restaurants, schools will most likely correct this. Thanks Mr. Oliver!
I don't see anything wrong with eating mechanically separated meat provided it doesn't contain prions. Someone has managed to figure out how to get meat off the difficult bits. Bravo I say! Good for them! If you want cheap meat then that's what you buy. If you want prime cuts then cough up the money to buy them. It's not cheap to raise cattle.
@JohnLavos but 2 humans just told you the opposite, so big deal, what's your point? Your thought against mine. It can never be proved as a universal law. Opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one!
this is my main reason for getting me a kitchen aide with the meat grinder attachment.... From now on I will be buying @ whole sale butchers and I will ground up my own ground beef ....And they wonder why ppl are going insane and crazy !! Don't blame us blame the food that the FDA says is good for us I bet they don't eat it!!!!
The FDA has now banned this type of product in our patties. Who knows what's safe? This is only the beginning! that's why so many people are getting sick!
I'm from Hong Kong. I read the news about this issue this morning and I'm glad I found this clip. McDonald's in Hong Kong said they're using beef from a different supplier than BPI and claimed that their beef is 100% beef. They said they'll do follow up job to see if their beef is of the same formula or not. But of course we know they'll never do it honestly. It's only meant to be a form of reply under pressure from the press. Thanks for uploading and thanks Jamie for letting us know the truth.
The FDA call this information fear mongering. Wake up people or Government doesn't serve the people by the people for the people anymore. They should have protected us from this shit. Instead they protect pink slime. And consider us stupid for being pissed and afraid to eat it!!!!!!!
i work for a meat processing plant and let me say, they only care about lining their pockets. there are no regulations. buy your meat from a respectable local butcher people.
IF YOU WANT TO STOP THIS, STOP PARTICIPATING IN THE SYSTEM. DON'T EAT AT FAST FOOD RESTURANTS, BUY LOCAL WHENEVER POSSIBLE, SEND A MESSAGE TO THEIR WALLETS THAT YOU ARE FED UP WITH BEING POISONED!!!!!!!
fyi I only eat organic and don't feed this crap to my children
@BlkOnyx488 I agree but one big problem is that these industries make the most money where people usually can't afford to eat organic. For instance, a single parent with a couple of kids and a tight budget who has a choice between 3/4gal of organic milk and 1gal of the regular stuff, both @ $4, is probably buying the latter. Programs like WIC - which is supposed to promote healthier babies through nutrition - don't have organic options or allow grocers to mandate what's covered.
@TheDukeljk Wow so if I dont like meat that means Im retarded?
Didnt u just see the video where they brought a living creature and then demonstrated each of the body parts that u eat? Its gross. Have you seen what they do to the chickens in KFC? All these animals were born to die,and they dont even have a normal life, since they are fed with all this crap that is supposed to make them grow faster and fatter so we can eat MORE of them.My conscience doesn't allow me do that,if yours does,go ahead
@zimerkata1987: No, even we all turn ourselves into vegans. Meat suppliers will sell us vegetables/fruits made on chemical/plastic instead. that's something comes from human's greediness, which became a principal in this "modern world".
Look in the US; Stuff like this is done all the time with any prodcut and foods. They say "No long term effects are KNOWN" This is just a way that the medical industry makes money. eventually people will get sick from stuff like this, no one will know where or how they got their cancer or disease. Meanwhile medical industry is making lots of money. This is why FDA approves these things, its all Political gain. Our government does not care about us.
@mustange550 We feed our kids chemicals like ammonia and god knows what else, and then wonder why suddenly every kid we know has autism, ADD, ADHD, bipolar, etc.?! Our "food" is what will kill the species off.
@mustange550 You have the whole picture now. When money is at forefront of our way of life nothing is safe. Who is watching our backs? Not our BIG BROTHER, We need a change, but when you can buy a political seat as far as a president as you watch this 2012 race the most money might win. Hope not I'm a 99%er. God save us!!!
This is just the tip of the iceberg people, wake up to your food supply. It has been commandeered by a bunch of corporate stooges that don't care about your health, there are plenty more consumers to market to in Asia.
@LornaPerry1 I have had a look, albeit it not a massively indepth one, I can't find anything though. I am really interested to find out so I am going to have another search. I shall report back.

@JohnLavos but 2 humans just told you the opposite, so big deal, what's your point? Your thought against mine. It can never be proved as a universal law. Opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one!

@Drshorr I dunno, ask lions. They don't seem to give a fuck. And neither should we. We're animals.

this is my main reason for getting me a kitchen aide with the meat grinder attachment.... From now on I will be buying @ whole sale butchers and I will ground up my own ground beef ....And they wonder why ppl are going insane and crazy !! Don't blame us blame the food that the FDA says is good for us I bet they don't eat it!!!!
peacantan31 1 month ago
The FDA has now banned this type of product in our patties. Who knows what's safe? This is only the beginning! that's why so many people are getting sick!

@angelsite285O No it hasn't moron, aqueous ammonia is safe its used in bake good, cheese and all sorts of stuff.
TheDukeljk 1 month ago
@TheDukeljk First off, no need to call me a moron. Second, I do not want ammonia in my meals. That's why we should go natural

A few years ago, i actually pet a cow, it gave me a whole new respect for what i eat.

When I was younger, I couldn't afford the school lunches for my kids. I made their lunches every single day. I'm really glad now that I was broke.

i work for a meat processing plant and let me say, they only care about lining their pockets. there are no regulations. buy your meat from a respectable local butcher people.

BlkOnyx488 1 month ago 15
@BlkOnyx488 I agree but one big problem is that these industries make the most money where people usually can't afford to eat organic. For instance, a single parent with a couple of kids and a tight budget who has a choice between 3/4gal of organic milk and 1gal of the regular stuff, both @ $4, is probably buying the latter. Programs like WIC - which is supposed to promote healthier babies through nutrition - don't have organic options or allow grocers to mandate what's covered.

@BlkOnyx488 my mum gives me organic only, tastes much better than Mcdonnalds shize!

@zimerkata1987 Your retarded, there is nothing wrong with meat.
TheDukeljk 1 month ago
@TheDukeljk Wow so if I dont like meat that means Im retarded?
Didnt u just see the video where they brought a living creature and then demonstrated each of the body parts that u eat? Its gross. Have you seen what they do to the chickens in KFC? All these animals were born to die,and they dont even have a normal life, since they are fed with all this crap that is supposed to make them grow faster and fatter so we can eat MORE of them.My conscience doesn't allow me do that,if yours does,go ahead
zimerkata1987 1 month ago

Our government does not care about us.
mustange550 8 months ago 41
@mustange550 We feed our kids chemicals like ammonia and god knows what else, and then wonder why suddenly every kid we know has autism, ADD, ADHD, bipolar, etc.?! Our "food" is what will kill the species off.

@mustange550 the medical industry??

@mangoshakess Yes its what I said.

Do we have that stuff in the meat in UK supermarkets?
Davidbensonxyz 8 months ago
@Davidbensonxyz I don't know if it is allowed in the UK or not, maybe a google search might help you find out :s

@LornaPerry1 I have had a look, albeit it not a massively indepth one, I can't find anything though. I am really interested to find out so I am going to have another search. I shall report back.

@Davidbensonxyz From what I have read McDonald's uses it widely, not sure if in their UK locations. I am never eating fast food again.
