hey i got a 95 talon esi with a blown 420a and 2 4g63 NA engine from some 90-93 talon esi's and i want to swap the blown 420a for a 4g63... what kind of stuff will i need? will i need all do the stuff from the old talon like the axles, transmission, exhaust, and computer?
@94VDUBgolf That generation of 4g63 won't do it. The only thing worth swapping in that year (because the pre-95 stuff doesn't fit) is an EVO 8 drivetrain. You'd need the WHOLE front clip minus the body. ECU, driveshaft, rear, etc. 1g 4g63s won't fit that car.
so I got a question for anyone I have a 97 gst freshly blew motor and trans I want a 6 bolt what do I got 2 do differently 2 put the 6 bolt in my 2nd gen I got auto trans I want 2 do a swap I know I got 2 change all the linkages and all that but anything serious with getting the 6 bolt engine and transmission in I heard I got 2 get a adapter plate for the trans I just dont know about gettin 6bolt engine and trans in 2nd gen
I have an odd question. Could cramshafts bend on the 2.0 turbo, NT and 18 motors. My brother talking me out from buying a clean unmodified , un beat 92 TSi. Previous owner is an honest guy and told he it has the required maintence done , recently had tune up. Is this true, I told he was full of it and mentioned only the valves get bent not the cams.
cams don't bend. If one of the journals seize, they break. Valves bend because they're the thinnest, weakest link in the valvetrain, but that only happens if the engine jumps time or the timing belt breaks. All 3 of those motors are "interference motors" which means the valves and pistons share space at different points in the engine's rotation.
If that car has had its scheduled maintenance performed correctly, you shouldn't have any problems with it. 4g63's are tough motors.
@Jafromobile I have a 94 4g63 block just like this.. I blew my oil cap off and my timing belt broke, so as the valves as the mechanic said. Is it still work fixing or rebuilding or just swap it.
I've got another one coming sometime this weekend and another 2 are in the works. Pulling and refreshing a '95 GSX engine. Subscribe & be the 1st to comment. ;)
@lygr703 Yes you can. Absolutely, yes. Drain coolant/oil. Remove the radiator (leave the fans on it). Un-bolt the exhaust. Disconnect the 2 coolant lines. Disconnect the oil return from the pan and the oil feed from the head. Remove the heat shield and there are 4 bolts holding the turbo on. You have to replace these. You need 8 new factory washers. Swap out your o2 housing and bolt it all back up. Follow your service manual instructions for tightening the turbo bolts.
well it looks like I got scammed on ebay so I found a 14b on craigslist. its from a 94 gsx will that fit right on my 90 tsi? and thanks for the inmformative description
Oh, there's this comment. I just uploaded both removal and installation videos for doing this with the engine in the car. Process is basically the same for a TD05 series.
Going from a 14b to a 16g is like going from a T25 to a T28 on a 2g. Everything lines up like it was.
ok im a newb, i need to replace my head gasket in my 4g63 nt, i dont need to pull the engine right? im hoping i can get it done in one day...should be fun, first time messing with engine...i know about them but never actually worked on it myself
It's basically a timing belt job with 10 more bolts to pull. 'course you have to take the coolant stuff, wiring, vac lines and throttle linkage loose to remove the head afterwards, but there's no other reason you can't do it in a day unless the head or block is warped or cracked.
Get a torque wrench and a service manual. Take your time and go step-by-step & you'll be fine. You gotta do the cookin' by the book.

Nope, you just have to pull the head.
