because the florida marlins wanted a new stadium and the orange bowl belonged to the city of miami not the university of miami and when it comes to political disputes like that the organization with the most money wins and one organization was a major league baseball team, the other was a small private school's football program who's bulk of money went directly to the school while the major league baseball franchise contributes money to the city in general, so the marlins won that battle easily

It is where the miami dolphins used to play, havent in like 15 yrs..um hurricanes played there, but not in 2 yrs. Stadium was very old, and not big. Its right smack downtown, and takes alot of space, and money to upkeep, so they knock down. Not sure if there are plans for the space. I went to Dolphis cames there in the 70's

They destroyed the stadium because they had no use for it anymore since the Hurricanes play at Dolphins Stadium (they werent just going to keep the OB becuase its histortic) Now they are planning to build a new 630 million dollar baseball stadium for the Florida Marlins. This will include parking garages. March 23, they will vote whether or not to approve and build the stadium, and which if it is approved it will break ground in the summer.
