  • Nice Job in explanation and execution...

You talk about one brilliant design? What a great gun the 1911's are !!!

I carry A Colt Defender .45 with a ultra light frame and consider it a magnificent "everyday" carry piece.

Reasonably light with serious stopping power and minimal barrel rise.

  • good vedio

  • Thanks for the help brentnowell. I have a Colt M1991A With Hogue grips on it.

Any idea what it is worth? 90% I guess, has been shot 100 rounds maby.

Also is it OK to "dry fire" my colt? 1 more..... I have a Colt Woodsman 22.

semi auto looks really old and in really good shape. Any idea of the value of this?

    Thanks for your help

  • how much is dat gun

  • ok you gotta tell me! were did you get the frame. how much was it. and do you know were i could get a cheap slide and reciver?!?! oh and what style do you recomend?

  • first time i disassembled my commander completely and reassembled it again.

would never made it without your help. XD

    thanx for this from germany.

  • metallica in the background Im gettin a 1911

  • great video. very informative. I was wondering if you have any tips for my extractor problem. sometimes it wont extract the empty shell and it just gets stuck. Are there some other things to check before i buy a new extractor pin?

  • @artavelar480480 My advice would be to check your recoil spring. It's very likely that you have it in backwards. The tighter, closed end should be on the guide rod, and the looser, open end with the coil sticking out should be towards the front of the slide. Good luck.

  • great video's. keep up the good work =]

  • thanks friend for help in assembling and dismantling, even though I am from Brazil, I understood the procedure only for images. I'm just writing in English by the translator of google.

Thank you for the demonstration of wisdom!

    Congratulations for the video.

Acts Marcelo De Faveri Goiás Brazil

  • great stuff.

  • i learned a lot. thanks!!!

  • looks really fun to put together weapons and i thought building computers were fun this looks really fun

  • cool vid! i never took mine apart past a field strip but am going to give it a try now, thanks! you should look into a lighter trigger cause it will make a big difference on putting rounds on your target, 7 feet away or not.

excellent choice of tunes too bro

  • perfect, best...

  • Great video. Just picked up my brand new desert eagle 1911 and I used this video to disassemble and clean the cosmoline off of it. I'm guessing you're Canadian or live near the border? And do I hear Metallica in the background :)

  • Thanks, nice presentation. Lighting was decent, and you went slow enough to follow. Angles showed pieces you were talking about. Most should be able to take apart and reassemble their 1911 after or while watching this. With very slight modifications this will work for any 1911. A-1, thanks again.

  • can someone tell a good website to get a m1911a1 model colt 1911?

  • Great job on the videos my friend. I have over 40 firearms but just got my first 1911 tonight. I couldn't wait to disassemble and clean it. The walk though was very helpful.

  • This video was a great reference for detail cleaning my new Rock Island Armory 1911 GI. You helped me a great deal. Thanks.

  • great video

  • Just traded for Colt M1991A1 and your video gave me much more confidence on how to work on my firearm..nice job..thx

  • \m/ BATTERY! \m/ BTW, great video. im 14, watched it twice, and now understand how just about everything on this gun works now. lol

  • you made it seem so god damn easy. lol

    Thanks for posting this vid.

  • very informative video sir... good job... thank you...

  • good vid it helped me a lot

  • Great Vid- Great background music! I was completly lost on my Norinco Model of the 1911 A1 inherited. I have 3 glocks and thought I was just going to pull this 1911 apart with no prior knowladge of 1911s and clean it up and slap it back together like a glock. I was wrong and couldent even have dissasem much yet re-assem without your vid series. Big thanks from Florida

  • good vid bro, I have a Norinco 1911A1. Great pistol, NEVER jammed or malfunctioned EVER. Most truely knowledgeable gun owners now know that Norico is a real, durable, brand (at least for their 1911 and AK copies).

  • Nice video. I'm building my new pistol from gun show parts.

  • Thanks for the assembly and disassembly videos. I have not owned an 1911 since I was 18, now I am 40. I just picked up a Colt 1911 circa 1918... pretty nice gun. You're video helps me recall the days I could take it down and back together again in no time at all.... Over the past 15 years or so, I got spoiled with ease of a Glock. But nothing beats a 1911!

  • thanks for the video it really helped!

  • is it normal that i have to push the magazine release button to be able to insert a magazine into my nornico 1911? if i dont push it down the magazine gets stuck...

  • Good video, man! I won't be afraid to strip my frame down now.

  • Nice videos! And good music :). Big thanks

  • Thanks, well done, & the Metallica in the back ground worked too.

  • nice i just recieved my 1911 70 series today and i disassembled the top. but this video is going to help alot when i test my gun out in the near future. i want to install the cooler trigger like those on the cobra models. now i can do it my self!!!! sweet

  • Great job on the videos.

  • After watching you assemble the gun and listening to a few others comments on the Norinco I have no hesitation with purchasing one for myself. No frills but looks like an all around affordable gun. Great video.

  • BATTERY!

Fucking awesome video. Taught me a lot about the 1911.

  • Thanks man! this video helpt me a lot. Great pistol and re-assembly!

  • thanks for the video. i enjoyed watching it. :)

  • hello i have a national match gold cup is the same thing ?????

  • At the end, it looked like you held the hammer loosely and pulled the trigger to release the tension or something. Am I right?

  • @tiecuando

Yes I dropped the hammer softly. No real reason I suppose, but if say you have a round in the chamber and wanted to lower the hammer, you can do this slowly and the gun will not fire. The firing pin is inertia driven, and will not touch the primer unless the hammer falls with full momentum.

  • @brentnowell Thank you for your videos. I learned how to do it. I will buy my first 1911 tomorrow and I will purposely make it a less expensive brand to "cut my teeth" on before I buy a higher end brand. I will study your videos more. Again, thank you.

  • Good job. Thanks.

  • orange juice makes me happy!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Thanks, your video was perfect. I just got a 1911 and I am looking forward to stripping it. I had no idea how to take it down before this video. Looks like a little work but I can do it now with your help. Thanks again!!!!!!

  • fuckin sanitarium and battery playing in the back. awsome

  • Damn dude when I first watched your disassem vid i thought it was a basic field strip but I see you went indepth.. I have favorited your video incase I ever need to strip it down further... Nice video bro !!

  • Cool an interesting video's of this assembly :)

  • OMG ty i needed this so much!!!!

  • I have 4 1911s, one's a Norinco, and I love every part of them. Taking one apart and putting it back together is always a joy. Browning was such a genius, to make a complex machine in such a small space, with very few parts. Very nice video. I'm sure you've helped many people get over their 1911 disassembly fears.

  • I was taking apart my 1911, and the whole thing fell apart. I was panicing. I put it back together with the precise, excellent, and clear instructions of this video. Thank you very much sir. Rating 5 and favoriting. God bless..

  • NICE VIDS!

  • Comment removed

  • best vid ive seen so far dude you gave detailes and even showed bullet lunged out of it real good

  • Great VID thanks

  • No bug this time? Looks like they learned there lesson. awesome vids by the way

  • yeay good work man did u make it urself or u bought it and assembeled it ?

  • fuck yeah, BATTERY, gotta love metallica

  • Great video's thanks I followed them in disassembling and assembling step by step. Would you be able to make a video on what to oil & lube and what not to? Thanks.

  • Great video, thanks!

  • thanks. i just bought a norico 1911 today.

helped me out alot. 5 stars

  • Great vid series

  • oooh i thought this was a 1911 a1. *facepalm*

  • hehe i like how theres battery by metallica playing in the background

  • Living in Brittan is really annoying; even with a license I cannot get one of these :( Good vid though :)

  • I know what you mean i got an awesome tercel gas blow back 1911 and because i dont go airsofting i just like collecting mine is bright orange. so uncool. even dismantles like the real thing.

  • disposable heros is a great song.

    very informative

  • thanks a lot i followed step by step the directions that you explain in the video and it really helped a lot i striped both of my 1911s and put them back together with custom parts and they look great! really good videos all of them thanks for taking the time.

  • a good, instructive video, well narrated and informative. HOWEVER, a function test with live ammunition should never be conducted anywhere but on a range, the possibility of an accidental discharge is too gr8. you can use snap caps if you have any doubts on a weapons funtionality.

  • The 1911 - engineering masterpiece.

Reliable, nicely balanced and attractive looking. Only minus is that they're so expensive to own and be active with where I live.

  • great video man

  • small question: I think you can actually assemble the whole slide (with the recoil spring, bushings, etc) before you install the slide on the gun right? It its just a bit harder to fit the slide lock back?

I've seen nutnfancy's son swap the slide on his for a .22LR slide conversion one without removing all of this... he just slid the slide back, removed the slide lock, put the new slide right on, put back the slide lock, and voila!

    Am I right?

  • Yes you can but on regular pattern 1911's the spring wants to pop out so it can difficult. On the 22lr slide kit and other 1911's with certain types of full length guide rods, you can just slide it on

  • the disconector resets the trigger right?

if u remove the disconector , u can get full auto!? cus the trigger won´t be reset and first time u pull and hold the trigger...the gun will fire all the rounds!?

i don´t know if this work on this gun...

need more opinions please! by the way , nice vide man!!

    lol

  • When you remove the disconector the sear will not catch the hammer when the trigger is held in. You would think that you get full auto, but you do not. What you get is hammer-follow-through. This means that the hammer drops as soon as the slide begins its forward travel, and you get a firing pin that engages the primer on the cartridge too early. When the primer is hit before the cartridge is fully chambered, the cartridge explodes as the breech of the barrel cannot contain the blast.

  • thanks man!! \o/

  • When you get a cartridge that fires out of battery, then you can get seriously hurt, and the the round may get lodged in the middle of the barrel.

Full auto guns have a special "auto-sear" that trips the hammer ONLY when the bolt or the slide is fully closed and in battery. On the M16 a special bolt carrier is used so that when the bolt fully closes it trips the hammer exactly at that point.

To achieve full auto it takes machining skills, and extensive knowledge to make the right parts.

  • when i put the spring in just now it sliped in flew to my over head light and busted it open from over my head.

expect a call from my lawyer.

    haha just kidding good video

    -Barrett

  • i thought it will be a pain in the ass to take apart the 1911.but you made it look easy, thanks for the video

  • Thanks for posting! I didn't know you could remove the firing pin and extractor from a 1911. BTW, Best pistol EVER made! Good vid!

  • very informative!

  • nice vid keep up the good work!

  • I am greatly appreciative of videos like this, saves a lot of headaches.

  • Dude, you've heard it before but great video. I cleaned my Rock Island (love it, BTW) and now can't wait to shoot it up in the Colorado High Country this weekend.

  • Let me ask u a quick question, im looking to get my CCW and was thinking between a Glock 40 or a 1911, i know there huge! but i would rather the knock down power. the glock 27 has that short handle, not a fan. I love .45s, hace the power and shoot comfortable. any suggestions? anything is great! thanks

  • concealed carry is best used with a thin handgun imo. the 1911 has good reliability and is slightly thinner than the glock, especially so if you get thin grips.

get yourself a commander model (no shorter in barrel length as the super short 1911's aren't as reliable.) and a good holster.

  • ya i picked up a PT1911 2 days ago, waiting for my cool down peroid to end, hate FL laws hahaha. looking to put mepolight night sights on it, but i wanna make sure if the straight eight sights work easier for me or not, idk yet. any one have experience with straight eight sights? 2 dots. so thats done, going to go fill out my CCW permit this up coming week. Gotta love being in the service, hopefully it will be a quick ordeal!

  • Personally I find that tritium sights have a real quick acquisition time. Being able to quickly acquire a target is much quicker with lower profile, bright white or tritium sights.

When I got my Glock, the bright white sights made target acquisition extremely easy and quick. With the straight eights I found that they're good for the range cause they're adjustable, but maybe not-so great for real deal encounters. You should try them anyways and see how you like them, maybe it's just me.

  • were did you get this?...im a collecter....welll im starting to be one ....how much did you pay?

  • how long is the barrel and how much did you pay?

p.s. is it any good, accurate?

  • The barrel is a 4.25" and I paid about 275$ for the gun brand new if I remember correctly.

  • just personal preference, but i dont like the way you install the slide stop, how you slide it upwards and in. now im assuming you have reassembled a 1911 many times, so youve gotten pretty good at it. but for someone who might be new at it, that technique will have them scratch the shit outta their high dollar gun. IMO, to install the slide stop, GENTLY push it straight down, wiggle it SLIGHTLY up and down. newer guns will have more tension so it will be harder, but dont force it!!

  • What can I say, your right. Thanks for the comment

  • YO UR AWSOME GOOD VID

  • 1911. I just paid for mine. Waiting for it to arrive....it's like being a kid again waiting for Christmas.

  • I know the feeling. I remember when I got it, I WAS like a kid on christmas.

  • Perfect Job. Thanks for the help.

  • thanks for your feedback

  • awesome video man. you dont happen to have a hi-power laying around do you? haha

  • I wish...

  • a 1911... how I envy you.

  • Battery!

  • you're right, I knew that sounded familiar.

  • Great job, that was nice to watch!

I have a remark if you don't mind: try engaging the safety before putting the spring back in. This way you won't have to hold the slide back against the gripframe.

  • THANK YOU DUDE!!!!! I messed with this F*$%&en thing for hours, before I watched your vid. I was just trying to figure out the field strip reassemble, not the detail strip and your video is a god sent, esspecially compared to the other one on here with the british lad. Thanks again dude :D

  • great video man, i was recently given an old 1911A1 that i have been told is over sixtey years old, so its all stock parts like the pistol in the video, you couldnt have made a better walkthrough thankyou

  • Lucky you! I'd probably shit my pants in excitement if I got an authentic 1911 from a family member that was actually used in combat :D Thanks for the kind words as well.

    Treasure what you have

  • however my main concern with the weapons age is how reliable many of the parts still are, I am unaware of the weapons complete history and on how to judge the wear on the parts. Everything seems to function well, it just has alot of oxidation on it, im considering getting it restored, or possibly doing it myself any pointers?

  • Alot of older guns are very shootable still. If there is lots of oxidization you can have the parts magnafluxed to find cracks. Most gun smiths do it. Personally I wouldn't restore it and would just leave it the way it is. It's hard to remove rust and then reblue it so that the blue still matches the rest of the gun.

  • nice! yu explained well!

now i understand a bit more how a colt 1911 works :) ty!

  • is it possible to get a double stack magazine for a 1911?

  • You need to have a 1911 that has the capability. Springfield made a USGI one that was double stacked, norinco of course made one, and STI makes double stack competition ones.

  • Thats the most efficient rebuild I have seen - thanks for sharing that. Question, what do you reckon the service life of a 45acp barrel bushing is? Is that the first part of a 1911 to wear out and need replacing?

  • Thank you!

I doubt it, the bushing doesn't go through that much abuse. I would think that the most common parts that need replacement are the barrel and/or the slide.

The lugs on the barrel/slide take alot of abuse and the lands and grooves on the inside as well. Usually they still last a lifetime if cared for properly, if the barrel is not fitted to the slide/frame properly you'll see those parts wear out very quickly.

  • Thanks great vid! 5/5

  • Thanks a bunch man. I inherited a Colt super 38 which is basically the same gun. These 3 videos helped me be able to clean and understand the working of the gun.

  • Mmm, Intresting, would be nice to beable to have me own, but not over hear

  • cool vids part 1 and 2 good job i get my 1911 9mm noninco next week and plan on a trigger job straight away this vid will help alot thanks alot

  • The only thing I did with mine was a trigger job and new grips, that was all it really needed for good shooting.

  • fit that in there

    nice and snook

    lol

    snook

  • lol, wow... I must have been drunk if I said "snook".

No sound here at work so I can't listen but I'll take your word for it. :)

  • 1:09 to 1:11

  • I'm actually saying "snug" not "snook" but it sure does sound like "snook".

For the record I was not drunk handling my 1911.

    :)

  • Drunk...

    ...with a 1911?

    LOL.

  • Yeah, it was snug lol

  • wow, there shure are alot of parts to a pistol :)

  • Oh man great job ! I don't know how widely this gun is used by law enforcement forces in north america, but at least in Brazil police forces usually carry national made guns from Taurus based on Beretta's 92 model and SIG .380 guns and more rarely imported Glocks. Well.. I think that's only for info..

  • I don't know of any law enforcement other than some tac-teams that use the 1911. Doesn't mean there aren't any, but if anyone knows post em up!

  • Hey, my dad has used a variety of 1911's for years for law enforcement. That's in the states and when he started tac-team he switched to the Springfield Armory XD 45. He seems to like it just as well plus he never had a rail before and the bigger 13 round mag. I'm looking at Para's new GI Expert myself, fairly cheap and looks very easy to modify for a lefty. Let me know what you think if you have the time and some input, it'd be greatly appreciated.

  • I wanted to add that the 1911 was designed to be taken apart with no extra tools Youd have to look it up to find out more but the grip screws were designed to be unscrewed with a casing if need be and the plunger/pins can be pressed out with the hammer assembly since the bottom half is curved and small enough to punch em out. Helps immensely in wartime scenarios if you have some original design (no full length guide rod fancy bushings etc) 1911s laying around and need to swap out a part or two

  • i have a softgun version :D OPS-Tactical. 45. Im not sure if OPS is a real version or a thing they say for softguns :D

  • My friend had an airsoft gun that was an OPS-Tactical. There's no such thing, and really it's a bad translation to try and give the gun a tacti-cool name. They are based on the STI target guns that have double stacked magazines. Basically they copied a very good target gun, and tried to make it into something tactical which it is not. Target guns are designed for speed and accuracy only, and don't hold up well at all to the elements such as sand/dirt. They do look very cool though :)

  • Ahh I see. You live in Canada so you can own a Norinco 1911. I live in the states so I can't import one. =(

  • No, but you still have access to the early models when they were allowed to be sold in the states. They are identical and the finish and overall quality on the older ones is better.

They pop up from time to time on gunbroker etc, check your local pawn shops too. If you look hard enough you'll find one, and they're usually still a good price.

  • Hmm nice 1911 videos. :D I now understand better how this gun works, I don't own one but I like everything about it hehe :D thanks for the uploads man!!!

  • Your welcome. I too watch tons of videos on other guns that I can't legally own or still haven't bought yet, it's still interesting to know how shit works sometimes :D

  • o yeah..... you're a pro ..... really good!!!! let me ask, what's your job?? you designing weapons or what??^^

  • lol, I uh, I'm a computer technician for a small computer store downtown..

  • subscribe too.

  • Metallica For EVER! lmao great vid man!

  • Yea for sure!

I was actually really digging their new cd and I'm still listening to some songs since I bought it in November. I'm thinking I'll use "suicide and redemption" for the next video.

  • Excellent Video...Where are you from I sensed a NE accent ? Thank you for the instruction.

  • I grew up in peterborough ontario, when I was eight I moved to calgary. It's funny cause people say I have an accent and I never knew I did. Must be a canadian thing..

Thanks for the kind words :D

  • lol u sound like sid the sloth off ice age

  • lol. Yea abit.

  • subscribed!

  • I enjoyed your whole little series! Thank you!

  • Ah thanks for this

  • Battery!!!

  • U da man! Nice vid!

  • Very useful. Right on.

  • do you kno how to put a fresh finish on the steel?

  • Go on Ebay and you can "buy" a service contract to send your barrel out, or slide, etc, to be refinished for $25 or so. That is of course, if you cannot find someone local. Aside from factory refinishes or new replacement parts, that would probably be the cheapest way to go.

  • dude thank you so much for your video i was giving my Norinco 1911-A1 a good cleaning so i got stuck on the leaf spring i couldnt get the hammer to stay cocked man your a life savor thank again.

    Dave

  • If i'm not mistaken, that was "Battery" by Metallica in your background

  • Great videos dude. One question, why do the 1911s leave that signature dent on the case mouth of spent cases?

  • The original design, by the Genius J M Browning,

was with a narrow ejection port which causes the casing to fly overhead instead of to the right and distracting a fellow soldier.

The case hits the bottom side of the port and is dinged. This is no big deal, but is easily fixed by what is called "porting", i.e., milling off the lower side of the port.

  • My Kimber has this porting yet still leaves the signature ding.

  • Excellent video. You managed to be both professional and informal, which is not easy. Thanks for the information.

  • Thanks for doing this video. It should help me a bunch.

  • You're a lucky dude to be able to live in a country where you are allowed to do this kind of stuff. Guns are a big interest of mine and apart from shotguns and rifles that you can get a license for with a lot of paperwork you would go to jail for a long time if you were caught with a handgun in my country :(

  • Right now it seems like anti-gun and pro-gun issues are at 50% in this country. There are just as many anti-gun articles in the paper as there are pro-gun articles in the paper. The next couple years will determine which way this country is headed, whether it will be like the U.K. or the States... Time will tell. One thing that I've learned is that people can make a difference, and the best thing to do is to write your member of parliament and tell them how you feel regarding the laws.

  • wow...i wasnt even looking for this video and i still watched you put the whole thing together....so cool.

  • my man u re supreme u re professionel thankks thanks thanks..

  • "the trigger pull on this thing is terrible" - hilarious........ The bug was funny too... lol.

  • At the time it was a terrible trigger pull. Later on that year I did an amateur trigger job on it and it definitely improved the pull.

Most compitant and certified gunsmiths can bring the pull down to 3.5lbs safely, which is pretty much the best your going to get on a 1911. There might be lower pulls but from what I read it's almost impossible to pull them off safely.

  • -what does a trigger job consist of? - how did you do a "amateur trigger job"? - thanks.

  • Basically your shortening the engagement surface of the hammer and sear. If done poorly, you can have a sear that will trip without the trigger being pulled, either from dropping the gun or from recoil. Goto google and read up on "1911 trigger job" and you can find all sorts of info about it.

  • I should also say that it consists of polishing the engagement surfaces so that less friction (and a lighter pull) is achieved.

  • METALICA YEA u wont hav any problems with robbers i learned alot

  • very very well done and i would love to own that gun and with ur hlp i think i would hav ease at the disassembly thnx

  • Thats the way a 1911 is supposed to look, I am planning the purchase of a 1911 in the next day or so, either going with a Norinco or a RIA, thanks for the information, will be revisiting when I disassemble.

    Recon!
