Aw man. This looks so much easier than the way I was taught. I use my middle finger for the keys and my pointing finger for the chords, but it kind of limits what I can do with the other hundred-or-so buttons. Oh well. I guess I could transition later. I've not been playing for long. Shouldn't be too hard.
quick question for a beginner. how tight should the bass strap be over the left hand? is it better if it's kindof loose or tight? or is it just whatever feels right?
I have had a baby accordion for ages and have recently got a new rather nice one with lots (not as many as that) bass keys and this is a handy explaination that is scarce elsewhere on the tube... Thankyou :)
I don't play accordian but I play piano. I am fascinated by more interesting instruments like the Kantele (finnish strung instrument) and this has answered my question, how do you play the accordian???
it sounds like it, but its different notes. the AMELIE Song is d-dm-dm d-dm-dm and something like the same thing in g, back to d, down to f fM, and cM
From what I've played, I think that the method I've explained in this video is good for "oom-pa oom-pa" music. That is, playing a key and then its chord.
It sounds like the older accordion player's method may be useful for playing 'scales' on the left-hand. That is, having your fingers playing specific notes. It sounds like it's a more advanced method. May be worth checking out :)
so what does that row of keys closest to the bellows do? you said it goes c, c major, c minor, c 7th, c deminshed, but what does that key before the C do?
And yep the bass keys are very complex and quite difficult to get the right fingering when starting, it gets a lot easier as you get used to the fingering pattern.
Thanks a lot for uploading this! Very helpful.
I just got an accordion and am very intrigued by it; it has such a great sound.

Why do you hold the bass C? All basses should be played staccato.

Please, more tutorials like this! Please please please! The book is not good enough, and there is no way I can afford an instructor.

nice. Thank you.
I'm just learning, but I actually don't know what all the cords stand for and all. Do you know a good site for that? Easy, for beginners, and clear?

question please!
my accordion mentor/tutor/idol, basically this man who goes around my neighborhood with an old accordion,
he told me that it is best to keep your left hand fingers all on the second row, with the middle finger on C, pointer on G, etc.
do you feel that one method is superior?

The buttons closest to the bellows are the major 3rds of the key.
For example:
The button above C is E, since C major is made up of C (E) and G.
The button above G is B, since G major is made up of G (B) and D.
The button above A is C#, since A major is made up of A (C#) and E.

Haha the notorious "Middle Finger" hehe
And yep the bass keys are very complex and quite difficult to get the right fingering when starting, it gets a lot easier as you get used to the fingering pattern.
But very good information.
Look forward to seeing more.
