  • one of the greatest ads ever. beautifully done. would love to know who directed it.

  • @dattucha This was Rupert Sanders. We made 4 great ads that year for Monster.

  • Why is Monster using Flash software? Now their website is slow, difficult to view postings upload resumes.

  • Well, I am sure the guy would be disqualified at the Olympics for drugs use... :-)

La Internacia Lingvo estas nia lingvo, la lingvo de la planedo Tero, sed ne la nura ; ĝi estas la dua lingvo por ĉiuj !

  • C'est en Esperanto? J'ai pense c'est rumantsch, non?

  • I LOVE this commercial. Never fails to make me laugh.

  • That is so funny!

  • this commercial makes me smile lol...

  • Best commercial EVER! LMFAO

  • THE greatest commercial ive seen

  • Hahaha Yeah true i Love this one :D

  • Oh my god, lol!!

    That was an AWESOME COMMERCIAL!

  • Does anyone know what the specific recording of the background music is? I know the song is the happy wanderer.

  • The song is by the Obernkirchen Children's Choir,

from 1954. The only place I've found this specific recording

is by searching the year for compilation CDs.

Angelic vocals by a choir or mostly war orphans from Germany. Beautiful Song!

  • I would be alot happier if i knew what they were saying.

  • I didn't catch all of it, but the words I did catch were:

    "Saluton" = "Hello"

    "Bonan matenon" = "Good morning"

  • it's a warped version of french hehehh

    Salut!

    Bon matin(but don't say this...)

  • It is Esperanto. The actors clearly don't know the language, the pronunciation isn't good and only a few words are recognizable.

In addition to "saluton", "matenon", "bonan matenon" he certainly says "kapitan'" (=captain). I'm not sure but it seems that he says "elementan, kapitan'" (=elementary, captain).

Other words that I think I've recognized:

    "kor'" (=heart)

    "malbone" (=badly).

If you want to learn Esperanto search for "lernu": you'll find a good website that will help you.

  • Just a great vid ;-)

Hello to @ll monsters out there

  • mierda pura mierda

  • Hablado como un retraso verdadero.

  • Haha! I love this ad, and not just because of the Esperanto. I've always wondered what keeps the Earth rotating.

  • lol na man

  • With that face I doubt he uses it as much as his legs. ;)

  • in case u haven't notice, bodybuilders have really big legs but they have small dick!

  • Killer commercial for anyone who cycles. I was curious about the language spoken, but I guess some answered that below. Does anyone have an English translation of the transcript? I'd also like to know what the song in the commercial is?

  • The song is

    "The Happy Wanderer"

I'm not sure who sings this version.

  • This song is German, "Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann" "Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann, Und mir steckt's auch im Blut; Drum wandr' ich flott, so lang ich kann, Und schwenke meinen Hut. Refrain: Faleri, falera, faleri, Falera ha ha ha ha ha ha Faleri, falera, Und schwenke meinen Hut. Das Wandern schaffet frische Lust, Erhält das Herz gesund; Frei atmet [...]"
  • Did you notice in the refrain of the text you posted, it goes back to faler*i* after the intial Faleri, falera? I remembered the song from long ago as the refrain being Valderi, valera, valder*a*, valdera-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha...

If you listen to the ad closely, you'll see it agrees with my recollection.

However, when I sought out this song on the net after watching this ad a few times, I found that *EVERY* vocal rendition of this song on the net has the refrain as you have it save this ad alone!

  • In German, they say 'f' like we say 'v'.

In germana lingvo, oni diras fo kiel ni diras vo.

  • Sorry for the confusion, I was referring not to the consonant, but the vowel sound at the end of the repeated word in the refrain.

In every text of the lyrics I can find and every vocal rendition I can play, it starts ending in "i" pronouned like a long E, then ends in an "a" pronouned like a short O, or like "ah" or "aw". Then it goes back to ending in the "i" (long E) sound, finally ending in the "a" (ah) sound with the "ha-ha-ha..."s added on.

  • Anyway, can anyone find a sound file on the net besides this ad, where after the ending in "i" (long E), then ending in "a" (ah), it *then again* ends in "a" (ah), before ending in "a" (ah) with the "ha-ha-ha..."s added on?

As I noted yesterday, this ad is one example, which I guess means the Obernkirchen Children's Choir version does this; except I can't find their version on the net other than the portion of it used in the ad.

  • What sound does 'i' make in English:

    reign, machine, divine, conceit, nation

  • Obernkirchen Children's Choir

  • Hey, the guy are speaking Esperanto! I can definitely spot 'saluton' and 'bonan matenon'.

    Estas tre bone!

  • I love this commerical!

The world really wouldn't go around without some professions - the dirty jobs you can't even imagine, someone's doing it.

    again, great commercial :)

  • the world also wouldn't go around without the guy in the giant gyroscope! lol

  • i lmfbao damn i almost died.

  • what a load of bloody rubbish! Would you really want THESE people to find you a job? Art? Pish!

  • Jeebus... Did your Valentine's Day not go well, or what? Need a hug?

  • no...I've seen it all before - it could have been an advert for Guinness or Stella as it made absolutely no sense at all. I presume all of the gushing praise came from minions in the advertising world wanting to creep to their bosses. I like my adverts to represent the product in all its glory not just win awards for the Director!

  • Well, you may be alone in your wish... I like advertisements that are clever, well thought out, and not just simple emphasis on the product. That's just bad advertising. Even the 'minions' of the advertising world 'wanting to creep to their bosses' (whatever that means) would agree on that point.

Oh, and I don't agree with you on replacing the product and keeping the same meaning. If they put a beer in his hand, how does that work?

  • I didn't say he needed a pint in his hand to advertise beer...just the theme is the same - very very arty? I had no idea it was for monster - a job agency until the very last frame. I am their target customer - a professional thats looking for a job. I wouldn't go there if they waste money on tosh like that. There are 4 adverts in the series...each as daft as the next. Thank God for M&S!

If you like art films there are 1,ooos on internet - that was an advert for a product...heyho!

  • Not knowing what is being advertised is the point... I think people tune out traditional product advertising unless someone is tripping and falling, has talking cute animals or some other gag to keep people watching. And, in those cases, it doesn't do anything more than maintain attention, and not in a product reinforcing way.

  • obviously this is all 'a matter of opinion'....but you're wrong. I know the 'belief' among some ad agencies agrees with yiour basic point...buy they are wrong too. I've proved it in the past with two ads for the same product - the better return comes from a product related ad. Hey ho...who cares.

  • Everyone but you is wrong? To each my own? Well said.

    Ah well..., I like it.

  • of course I'm right! What's the point in getting into an argument/discussion if you're going to back down? hahahahahahaghaha it's still a crap advert and video!

  • Judging by your favorites list, I would say that you lack taste of what's good and what's not. so, I'll concede and say that you are right arguing your inherently flawed opinion.

  • I have a favourites list? Not that I'm aware of....I shall hunt it down. I've quite enjoyed that - have a good weekend.

  • Cheers mate. You too.

  • So where have you seen this idea before?

  • A real classic: the Happy Wanderer, the Esperanto, and a really far out theme! I can't stop watching it! I laugh so hard sometimes I almost cry!!!

  • Is it just me or does the building behind the man at :13 look like a huge phallic symbol?

  • Nope. I'm afraid it's just you. Hehehe

  • Song is Obernkirchen Children's Choir - The Happy Wanderer

  • Bonega afero, samtempe temas pri varbado por la Internacia Lingvo. Gratulon!

  • LOL i loved this commercial

i saw it for the first time when the grammys were on

Monster did a great job with this one

  • I got one of those machines in my head; only it's a squirrel on a wheel. This is one of the most creative ads I've ever seen! Wouldn't it be great if everybody acknowledged everybody makes the world go around!! Monster's admen nailed it!!

  • Indeed it is very creative. For those who do not comprehend, it is supposed to be "The Center of the Earth" the man obviously "making the world go round."

  • I don't know why I like this comercial. Probably because I wish life where that EASY!

  • i love this commercial. it reminds us all that we are made for something.

  • This is one of the funniest commericials I have ever seen! And I love the Obernkirchen Children's Choir singing "Happy Wanderer"!

  • very funny!!

what's the name of the song?

  • so funi...1 of the coolest ads yet...

  • Best commercial ever.

  • This was already a favorite commercial of mine, but how odd: this guy looks like my husband (who has normal-sized legs)!

  • i love that commercial and i think the song is good

  • Bonege!

  • this is my favorite

    comercial ever

and i love the song in it

  • It doesent get more awesome than that i love this commercial

  • ;p; who are people arguing this is funny lol

  • Mi eraris. La esperanta komentoj ne malaperis. Pardonon, jorge!

Many thanks to jorge for posting this beautiful video.

  • LOL!

  • Wonder how the Bank tellers look when they see him cashing a check from "God"

  • Eble li havas rekta depono?

    (Maybe he has direct deposit?)

    :) ... Li

  • I LOVED IT! also, people say they would survive in the air. but stopping the rotation of earth would cause gravity to go to a halt wouldn't it ? ouch..

  • Um, no it would not. Last I checked, gravity depends on mass, not rotation, and as long as their are atoms, gravity will always exist, no matter what.

  • whats the song???

  • The prononce of this guy is terrible! Esperanto is the easiest language to prononce, but the people don´t studies it!

My english also is terrible, but i did´nt participate propaganda speaking english...

  • why is terrible?

    what's he doing wrong?

  • For example in "matenon" the accent falls on "e", not on "a". He clearly has never studied Esperanto, because the pronounciation is very easy and can be learnt in the first day of study.

Anyway, the commercial is very nice and I think that Esperanto lovers should be happy about it.

  • hahaha... Bizara sed amuza.

  • lol

  • Mi shatas ke ili uzis esperanton, sed por kia efekto?

  • epic win.

  • LOL hahaha thats funny.

  • Hehe.

  • Very nice. I agree that they could have gotten the Esperanto pronunciation better. It's only a one minute video and there are only a few phrases, so they could have gotten some advice on how to say them correctly. Nevertheless, nice images and ... fun! Dankon! (That's "Thanks", in Esperanto.)

  • Good commercial, althought his Esperanto pronunciation is not quite right.

Bona reklamo, kvankam lia prononcado de Esperanto ne estas tute ghusta.

  • This is one of the funniest commercials in years.

  • Did anyone see the Triplets of Belleville? The resemblence to it is uncanny.

  • thats epic!

  • I love it! Absolutely love it!

This is the best ad we've done lately.

  • Damn right...the next one that is released is even better.

  • Who has two thumbs and makes the world go around?

  • This guy.

  • So, that's why my sandwiches keep on falling off the table!

  • That's awesome, they actually got the radius of the Earth correct.

  • what do you mean ?

  • ty for posting it! BEST AD EVER

  • I thought "war kittens" was the best ad going, till I saw this one.

  • I wish all commercials were like this!

  • Only once in a while does an ad come along that is unique and creative... truly, a special guy with a special job!

  • All ads should be as imaginative as this one. Love it!

  • greatest commercial ever

  • A truly inspiring commercial!

  • Love love love it! Very "Terry Gilliamesque"

  • What country are they supposed to be in? What language is he speaking?

  • Most of it sounds like Esperanto, although he doesn't quite speak it like a native. :)

  • he is speaking esperanto. he doesn't sound like a native because this was filmed in argentina. by the way, it's the only commercial ever using that language

  • Monster has some of the most addicting commercials. Have you seen the Don't Fight Mondays one? If not, check it out!! By the way, would people really fall if the world stoped spinning for one moment?

  • Fall ? Yeah, after a rather long flight through the air :D

Earth's tangential speed at the equator is something close to 1000 mph, and it zeroes at the poles, so farther from the equator means less bruises :P

  • Wow. I never thought the Earth spun THAT fast. I mean, we can hardly feel it moving, but i guess that's because we move with it.

  • it actually spins at like 650 miles an hour, so if it actually did stop moving, those people would die almost instantly.

  • Is it possible to SURVIVE if the Earth suddenly stopped moving? Or would you just go flying into a wall or faceplant on the ground? I think if you were in a large body of water or you were in the air, you might survive.

  • You would certainly fly through the air parallel with the Earth's rotation. And, I'm certain that if you hit water at 650mph you would die. Water has a very high tensile strength...

  • But what about if you were in a large body of water when that happened?

  • It would most likely be quite uncomfortable, but likely would not kill you. Though, I admittedly have little experience with such matters - I'm more of a volcano deaths guy.

  • what if you were in an airplane? or happen to be skydiving at the exact moment or like on a trampoline?

  • Nothing.

  • awesome

  • it's complicated. see, if the entire core, outer core, mantle, and lithosphere were to stop moving, then you would probly die from impact with the ground. If you were in the air, you might survive it, but I'm guessing it would cause some pretty powerful wind. As for someone in the ocean... well... you're guess is as good as mine.

  • Are we really supposed to be thrusting ourselves into the thickets of reason here?

  • You would survive if you were flying in an airplane, but everything on the surface would blown apart by the sudden mass of air rushing over the surface.

  • I think oceans would slosh from their beds, mountains would topple, all surface area would be pummeled from fly debris, the magnetosphere would collapse or convulse... I think falling would be the least worry! lol...

    Li

  • God. In other words, the world will come to an end if it stopped spinnig for a fraction of a second?

  • I don't think the world would come to an end, but mankind might. However, its a moot point. I can't think of anything that could make the world stop spinning, unless may a huge asteroid (or planetoid) crashed in to it can counter the rotation. But, if the planet was to obliterated from a strike that massive, it would likely be thrown out of orbit a fall into the sun. I don't lose sleep over it though! lol... (ps- I meant "flying debris" NOT "fly debris" ... oops) -Li

  • Superman did it.

People on the poles would be unaffected by the stoppage, everything on the equator would be hurled at 1670 km/h though.

  • Good point. The effect would be greatest at the equators, lessening toward the poles.

However, I don't think Superman did this exactly. He reversed time, so there would be no inertia factor in that scenario.

The special FX graphics could be misleading though.

    Li

  • I am not much of a gamer, so you will have to explain that one. I've never heard of "Wow."

  • Conor Wilkes

  • Could not take my eyes off tv when ad aired wondering what the heck it was about....Unbelievable!
