I feel bad for him. The easy answer is to walk away, but you don't get that high without taking some kind of risk. But, if you look at the odds of getting an answer correct with no clue whatsoever, and a clearly divided audience, I would say the smart move would have been to stand pat at 500K.

Also, if you look at it from a lifestyle perspective, 1 million isn't that much more than 500K, but 500K is MUCH more than 25K in the same way as having $20 is much more money than being broke.
