It may seem that simple, problem is its more complex then that.

Japan bloc votes all sanctuary proposals and the current ones set up in the IWC, like the Antarctic Whale Sanctuarty, they still violate it and whale within its limits. Why is it even still called a sanctuary?

If anything is gonig to clear the IWC of this blockage, Japan must obey the existing sanctuaries, otherwise any sort of diplomatic solution is not going to work, as we are seeing now.

And the last reported numbers of whales death by SONAR was 16 whales....How many whales does Japan attempt to kill each season? 1,000 in the quota per whaling season. That's indeed the only whale that Iceland is hunting now.

We did hunt a few Fin whales as a part of a research but it proved to be a failure both in terms of the image of Iceland and the fact that they are much more vulnerable than the Common Minke whale and are in fewer number here in the North Atlantic.

The bigger the animal is the more fragile the tipping point and recovery time is for that animal (the fin whales being much larger than the minke whale).

So we only hunt 100 minke whales.

Japans research on whaling has only produced 4 papers that are peerreviewed and only by lethal methods.thats 4 papers for about 40 years and 30000 whales. A commerial hunt of an endangered species is much worse then a few kills of an endangered ant. Do you know what a comemrial culling is? Not to mention it is conducted against a global IWC ban, in violation of the ATS, CITES with illegel trade between norway and Iceland, and the IWC whale sanctuary where all southern hemp whales breed

Would you like it if your calve was harpooned then while you try defend it you die too? Japan has said they illegally kill all types of ages, calves and pregant mothers. Under UN regulation no calves under a certain age is allowed to be killed. same goes for mothers. Whales comunication is very strong and all in the area get destressed for days. There is also other legal facotrs involving the hunting of any whale against IWC, CITES dealing with trade (all whales species are listed on appendix 1 allowing NO trade of whale meat anywhere in the world), ATS japan conducts illegal midsea refuelings in ATS animal sanctuary waters and have an illegal panamian vessel "oriental bluebird" entering the ATS waters. Plus JARPAII includes endangered species and its not sustainable, even the IWC says its biblicaly impossible.

did you alo know in 1986 only 10% of whales remained in the world, today its increased to 15% our oceans are still unstable by 85%. sustainable whalnig will only be possible when numbers have reached back to normal levels. Plus Japan is one of few nations actually commerially whaling, what if the ban was lifted and all whaling nations started again? it would be impossible. u know by harvesting only 1000 whales a year (like japan) would be the equivalent to wiping Germany off the map each year.
