Again, Greg Graffin for President. How cool would it be to have Bad Religion in Airforce One running around the world actually doing something worthwhile?
one of the greatest minds in united states history .... just hope i will be as great a warrior as his words are great ... i'll continue my artwork ... maybe my art will awaken others .... but when my art fails to awaken society ... i will lead an army to fight for freedom... once again.... hope for peace ... prepare for war
This has got to be the coolest song live ever. I mean, Generator's good because Greg always messes with the audience XD, but Cease goes from punk to beautiful. Whoo!
@smarticus2000 i only liked this comment becouse it is so ironic. i love greg graffin and his music. look up greg graffin and religion, or belife in souls
@ILikeTheThingsIDo My funeral too. This is soulful without being full of soul (in the christian-authoritative sense). As a writer and philosopher, I cannot explain this song (despite my grasp of language and logic) in words beyond "beautiful."
Gray Race is definitely underrated, It actually flowed really well like their previous albums. In all honesty I wish Greg would have taken longer to write the next album, if it was a combination of all the best songs of No Substance and New America then it could have been one great album instead of two mediocre ones.
I think The Grey Race is a highly underrated album. It's the first album on which Graffin didn't have Brett's songwriting skills to complement his own. Greg basically wrote the entire album alone (though Baker is credited as co-writer on a few tracks), yet it's incredibly powerful. So glad Brett's back though...best songwriting duo since Lennon/McCartney IMO. I love the fact that this album ends w/ this song..."Everything must...". Perfect.
I absolutely love Bad Religion and when I saw Greg play this song on piano I lost my mind! Such a good song and it fits so well being played on the piano!
Does anyone know where I can download this piano version?!
this video is one of the many reasons BR are the most amazing punk band in the world! If you guys love BR too you should definitely check out Utopia Now on myspace and lastfm! I mean, BR won't be around forever (but hopefully for another five albums...), and even today the bad religion school of punk rock is virtually extinct. So support the few true successors of that school! They even distribute all their music for free.

@SepticProductions Being one of the fallen Clerics Of BR, I may have my Issues with what they have become... and while I don't support voting for someone to take from others for my own interests, I would consider casting a lot for Mr. Gaffin.
I actually had this song on loop when driving from my dad's funeral. This, Fuel "Hemorhagge in my hands," Blink "Adam's Song" and Eminem "When I'm Gone" were on loop almost the whole day. But this song always stands out, I played it when I heard that my dad died.
libertarians, anarchists, utopian, call them what you want. they're atheists, its all over their music. ever heard the generator? it explains a lot. they talk about it at every concert.
No, Bad Religion is far from anarchy. For better for worse they seem to be very liberal. At one point I Jay supported Obama, or at least "Liked what he stood for." But the band I seriously doubt as a collective Ideology other than "Do what you want." I imagine each member has their own opinions on politics or philosophy. But many of their songs cry out in support of the poor or the everyman, which makes them sound much more like libs, but keep in mind Greg and Brett write ~90% of the songs.
In a very early interview Brett explicitly stated "We are anarchists"... just so you know. Of course, that's when they were around 18, so their views may have changed.
But it's wrong to say that they are liberals / anarchists / whatever until we've heard it from the horse's mouth.
It is Utopian. You can never return to The State of Nature by anything other than an entire societal collapse (which sometimes I think I wouldn't mind...), not that you'd really want to anyway. There were good reasons for the "signing of the Social Contract" they've just been grossly misinterpreted and extended IHMO.
Even if Society would totally collapse and State of Nature is reinstated, even then, we wouldn't survive it and even if we would it is very possible that sooner or later we would get Monarchy ("the strongest survives") and then all the shit, all over again...
Indeed, which is why I said "not that you'd really want it to anyway." When I said that sometimes I wouldn't mind... well, I just get fed up the way things are enough at times that I would be a-okay if something like a zombie apocalypse went down. That's all ;)
Total anarchy is a bad thing. I think there has to be a balance where the individual isn't constrained by the government OR big business and society but also functions in an organized fashion with the rest of the people here. We as a species could not have come as far as we have without working together but at the same time there have been some individuals with major contributions that were held back our interdependence. But enough pseudo intellectual musing, this is a comment section for G.G.
In a very early interview Brett explicitly stated "We are anarchists"... just so you know. Of course, that's when they were around 18, so their views may have changed.

Well a Zombie apocalypse would be nice every couple thousand years... To get the earth fresh and clean again... ;)
(on the serious side of this topic)
Yes you are totally right it's a total shit-storm going on right now and I would love anarchy...
But I just think that it is some kind of utopia and not attainable with the mind-set of 99.5 percent of the people on the streets...
Or even if we'd get it. People won't like it enough and they'd try to change it...
(just my opinion though)
