It is state law in PA and I am sure most states. This case its specifically signed on the bridge not to cross the solid lines. When I lived in Jax from 1997-2001 the FHP did nail people constantly for doing it.
Yo Jim solid line means NO LANE CHANGES I am surprised FHP did not pull you over they actually enforce that hence the many "DO NOT CROSS SOLID LINES" signs on the bridge
@DCK55: Just curious, is that a specific Florida state law, or is that the case in most states? In California, you are allowed to cross over solid white lane markings (this was even discussed recently in the San Jose Mercury News)
@FreewayBrent - In Virginia, specifically I-64 "West" to I-264 East, there is a section where the right exit lane (and only the exit lane) has two solid lines as you get closer to the actual exit, signed that you may not, under any circumstance except for authorized emergency vehicles, cross the double solid line to get into the exit lane, as it causes backups for those in the right lane. I've never seen it enforced, and thus it does result in slowdowns in the rightmost thru lane.
Oh yeah, that Buckman bridge can be a real nightmare. I was down in Jax for a few months back in 2006 and got stuck in a horrific traffic jam more than once on that thing. Excellent video though!

Why do they solid line all the lanes? Are there that bad of a backup at the US Route 17 exit that people were impeding traffic in the left lanes?

Exit 5A = The only time I was able to eat 100% organic food in Florida during my trip, at the huge Whole Foods store, lol.
Okay, with that out of the way, I think the I-95/I-295 South interchange is arguably my favorite one in the entire state.
