i remember watching this show freshman year and thinking y'all were going to jump on that prop thing because i thought it was a trampoline... kinda sad y'all didn't but great show anyway! :)
This band reminds me of Drum Corps. You guys sound like a moving symphony, I don't understand how Tarpon beat you guys at regionals at the Georgia Dome. I'm from Oviedo marching band and we work hard to sound and march like you guys and I can truly say you guys blew it out the water and deserved the 1st place trophy Congradulations for a bad ass performance.
I'm from duncanville and was a sophomore lasr year at state. I never got to see your show, but after realizing we only got third by a tie break, i can see why. Your show was just outstanding. I'm curious as to what the theme was and where the music was taken from? I hope we get to compete with you guys at state next year. Best of luck!
I'm from Duncanville and was a sophomore last year at state. I never got to see your show, but after seeing that we only beat you on a tie break, i can see why. Your show was so beautiful. I'm actually really interested as to what the theme was, and where the music was chosen from?
Jersey Village HS in houston is playing this song this year GREAT show when we start competition and get some vids ill put a response vid. GREAT SHOW THOUGH
Now that's a band!!! They're not the biggest nor do they have the most props, but they sure perfected their playing and marching and made it far!!! Pure band right there, the way it should be! :D
You can't imagine how many times we had to work on that diamond and the runs. The resulting effect was just so awesome though! I'm glad that you agree! :D
This show is so amazing! I saved a copy of it to my computer in case the youtube videos go down and I never get to watch it again :P my favorite part is the first big chord, so pretty!
@Fumbles9001 You sir are quite rude. We worked our butts off for this show and we put our souls into the performance and guess what... To the JAMES BOWIE OUTDOOR PERFORMING ENSEMBLE we are more then just a "marching band" we are OUTDOORS, and we PERFORM our hearts out as an ENSEMBLE!! Any band could tag it after their name, we don't care. But we call ourselves that not because it's "fancy" or just cuz we can, but because that's what we ARE. and to us, THAT is more then just a "retarded term".
@Fumbles9001 Our name is an insult to the "marching band world" Im sorry but that is possibly one of the dumbest, most arrogant things I have ever heard! Lets see, the activity (for the most part) is OUTDOORS, we PERFORM the music, color guard work, drill, ect, and we're an ENSEMBLE. So can you PLEASE tell me how that is an insult?
@Robbynloveshaters It's an insult because you are SO above the rest of the marching band world, that you feel the need to use a smug name such as "outdoor performing ensemble". No, Bowie is a marching band. It's incredibly arrogant to say otherwise.
@Fumbles9001 No one thinks we are "SO above the rest of the marching band world" And to be honest if you don't like our name, then no one is forcing you to watch this video, or come to out competitions.
@ThatAwkwardMan Now THAT was the response I was looking for. Thank you, kind sir. I never actually had a problem with that name, and my deepest sympathies regarding your director. There were a bunch of Bowie kids at LMC when that happened, sucked, man.
@Fumbles9001 Hey, look, I realize you don't like the name and I even further realize that this whole thing kinda ended a few months ago, but I think you should know this: JBHSOPE, is - to us - symbolic of superb showmanship, musicality, and general excellence. Also, know that the name was invented by our late director, Bruce Dinkins. He devised that name because he incorporated other elements of the school into the performance whenever possible.
Hey I was with Plano East and I remember seeing the ball *thing* from the tunnel And I met your pit before the full retreat! Shout out to Alec! You guys were pretty darn awesome if I do say so myself. :)
Good God. That was amazing!!! At BOA, Plano East was in the tunnel during their performance, so I was not able to completely appreciate their show, but seeing it now, I think they make me want to transfer to Bowie.
Cool show! And with experience of watching this video and being a part of the audience, I can tell you that the BOA and state audiences are one of the funnest crowds youll ever be a part of!
amazing, but some aspects of the marching need to be cleaned up. The music was certainly exceptional. 4th place was a well earned spot for this band. Keep up the amazing job.
@crxhfspeed56 Um, Duncanville's show was pretty amazing and probably the most interesting. Tons of GE without props. From where I was sitting D'ville played/marched extremely well. Bowie was amazing, as were most of the finalists, but Duncanville was well balanced, didn't overblow, and marched VERY WELL. A 9th place vote in Marching was ridiculous! Bowie has an amazing band! At least they both placed ahead of Coppell. :-)
Hey bowie guys! im from the Round Rock Dragon band and just wanted to say I really think yall should have placed higher. Music was the best out of the finalists and marching was pretty good, especially when you've got the rotating boxes. oh, and I LOVE the music section starting at 6:20 mostly cuz the low brass have the melody, and that always makes music better :)
See y'all next year for another competitive season!
JBHSOPE Alum from '08, saying THANKS for making me a proud alumni! So glad I got to see y'all rock it at BOA a few days prior to this. Woodwinds, keep tearin' up those runs :)
Strong show. Much more complicated and entertaining than Duncanville's show in my opinion (and LD Bell's for that matter. I didn't get to see Marcus's show - I was out in the parking lot with Westlake's PIT equipment).
Can someone explain the big drum/circle thing though?
@marcstephensonATX I can't comment from an official perspective, but I THINK it's all a play on words, with Tchaikovsky being a composer who wrote some of his music, notably Marche Slave and 1812 Overture, about wars and revolutions ("Revolutionary"), and then the whole wheel going around and circle theme of the show ("Revolution-ary"). Or at least that's my story, and I'm sticking to it ;-)
@marcstephensonATX I'm a mellophone player that performed last year, the shows title should help explain it, its just a big wheel that "revolved" around us as we marched. Most its trampoline symbolism. The dots however, we don't even know, Hope this helped! :)
Truly beautiful music and marching! Thanks for a great performance and marching season for us parents to be proud of! You all are a classy band!!! Also, thanks twillytomtx for this great video.
MY GRANDAUGHTER GRADUATED FROM BOWIE HIGH SCHOOL AND BOWIE WILL ALWAYS BE A SPECIAL PLACE FOR ME., LOVE THERE MUSIC AND ALL FACETS OF BOWIE HIGH SCHOOOL., JOB WELL DONE BOWIE!! AM VERY PROUD OF THE BAND AND ALL MEMBERS OF THE BAND!!
