Craftsmen mowers suck. I owned. I took care of it, but the damn thing would always break down after 2 years. If it wasn't one thing it was another. Great tools horrible mowers.

That funny sound that the mower makes when it's sped up is something I've never heard before. but the mower started in one pull. i got a briggs and stratton quantum mower and it is crap. it floods out sometimes and it is hard to start when there isn't a new fresh start fuel cap installed.

The last mower I purchased was the Club Cadet for $269 at Home Depot. It worked great the first time I used it, then started to choke/backfire the next weekend. I brought it back for a refund and bought a Toro Model 20073. Nearly all of the models have praised reviews.

@jubiljoe, the Super Recyclers are nice, but they are nearly 2x the price of the Recyclers. It may be worth getting if you cut grass every day, but the Recycler is great for the average homeowner.

Toro uses the locking nuts on the handles so they don't fall off. They can be hard to get on, but the vibration of the mower tends to cause regular nuts to back off.
