  • Mashallah sooo beautiful, though her duppetta freaks me out the whole time!

  • Beautiful dancing...god bless!

  • I dance Aryan-Persian-Afghani dances for 3 decades and I am really considering to study Kathak seriously, I see much similarity in styles and expressions. In Aryan dances, arms and legs are more extended than Kathak and we often spin continually in line movingly but we do not have those advanced ankle bells' works with complex rhythms. I am writing this for Khorasanzameen and Shiva4ever. No fight guys...

  • @karunamrita no fight. similarity makes relation of love and peace. i will add here that Afghan khattak dancers also use a lot of Zangs (bross bells) in same style andcostumes from chechnia to india

  • Wow, what a beautiful dancer and dance

  • I know this dancer but don't remember her name. She is French and studied at the Kathak Kendra under Birju Maharaj.

  • Good atempt by the dancer. Given that she is trying a foreign medium, I must say that she is doing a good job. WOuld help if she did more riyaz and displayed more crispness and sharpness. Nice to see her dance, very elegant.

  • what music is this?

  • So if you watch a video, why not concentrate on that and give the person some nice feedback. If you don´t have something nice to say though, remain silent or give some constructive criticism so that the person in the video can advance and correct their faults. I think she dances beautifully and it´s very fluid.

  • Wow it´s really amazing how EVERY SINGLE video on youtube is followed by fights and debates on a nursery level. Guys...we are all able to read and if someone´s really interested in the history of things or the origin....they´re also able to do some basic research and form a personal opinion/interpretation. I think it´s quite healthy that ppl don´t always agree on things....so please stop fighting.

Here you have somebody´s video posted, somebody who´s probably worked very hard....

  • Beautiful! That's a pretty kind of veil too, pinned to head and shoulders. I never saw it in bellydance like this.

This is a pretty beautiful kind of dance too (maybe more)

  • she's really good

  • wow, she looks like a dancing doll

  • awosome . by the it is not indian dance but afghan tribal dance (khattak tribe)later during afghan rulers it reached india. costume used are still as afghan khattak tribal performers and rythem is same but tribal dance is bit faster an

  • o wow you dont know ur history at all kathak comes from the sanskrit work kathana which means one who tells a story because kathak was originally hindu temple dancers who interperted hindu scriptures it got its persian influence when the mughal rulers patronized it in their courts. It is not afghani in origin.

  • fez i think very easy to attach one thing to another. first kathak is a biggest afghan tribe. they still perform in same costume and same way but a bit faster. darvaish of maulana jalal ud din afghani perform in these costumes. Maulana left afghanistan much before moghols or turks invasion to india.

  • nope ur totally wrong

  • Fez it mean you dont have log to support your claim. you can check your tube whirling sufi;s at mazar -e- jamal ud din afghani at konya turkey

  • im not saying that kathak does not have persian influence it has a great deal of it, its simply not persian in origin Ive studies kathak for many years now and have studied south asian history this is the first time ive ever heard claims like this. its simply ridiculous, you claim there are so many similarities between kathak and afghani dances have you watched any other indian classical dance forms how do you explain why they have so many similarties with kathak especially at technical level

  • mosstly tribal are warlike people. educations is less.i am khattak myself. what is presented as kathak dance is just 1% of real khattak dance. kathak darbari is just imperial court version of tribal dance . khoshal khan khattak fought with king shahjehan. he was shahbazkhel .his 7th ancesntor was akora . akora's 7th ancentor was saghay and saghy was 7th ancentor of khattak.

  • sorry to correct you my brother "khattak" was the 7th ancentor of Saghry. oter Family trea is correct

  • i dont see what any of that has to do with kathak I dont know what KHATTAK means but kathak in sanskrit means story teller from the work katha which means story.

  • Well Kathak literally means what you said it does. But Kathak dance form has multiple aspects to it, pure dance (Nritta) and also story telling(Natya, abhinaya). This piece here is a pure dance item. All classical indian dances have both pure dance and expressive pieces. Hope that helps.

  • in my videos you check dance drame .where khattak dancer narrates a story through dancing.

  • @natyacritique okay give me a you tube link what kathak dance is used for narrating a story. if you dont have then i give you link of tribal khattak dance narrating story of a house wife after hearing her husband is coming back home. tribal khattaks call it "tamseeli ddana"

  • @Khorasanzameen Just saw this comment n had the great privilege of reading through other comments by u. U got to be smoking something really good to say Kathak (u constantly seem to confuse the spelling with your tribal form Khattak) had origins in afghan tribal dances and turks whirling. Whirling dervishes was a much recent phenomena compared to KATHAK.. Katha means a story. I constantly attend kathak dance drama's. Indian epics depicted via Kathak. Don't need to prove anything to u.

  • @Khorasanzameen Here, you ignorant prick, is an example of kathak being used to tell stories.

    .youtube.com/watch?v=fuz-YSwXrsI

    .youtube.com/watch?v=SnZ4TFUXCu8&feature=related

The backbone of Kathak is Hindustani music. Kathak is a freaking lesson in math itself...a precise dance form. I am sorry my friend its not a tribal dance. Its an insult to call it so.

  • @natyacritique okay come on compare it with following link . let me start from georgians .

    youtube.com/watch?v=aQVcLEe8YNc and then to chechnia

    youtube.com/watch?v=aOiT9TPkJQk and

youtube.com/watch?v=nklcJbNtaUs and this is anatolian kavkaz

    youtube.com/watch?v=n41Ow00wM3M.

    dont foget to add www

  • non of Indian dances have similarity with Afghan dances except Kathak which is slow versio of khattak dance. whirling is famous part of caucasian/turk dances. i have never noticed other indian dances have whirling

  • um have you ever seen rajistani folk dances whirling is a big part of it, if you study kathak and know the hand movements youll know its very similar to other indian classical dances. For those peopel that aruge kathak is not Indian name one non indian person who has composed an original piece of kathak and also there are 3 schools of kathak and all are named after Indian cities in which they originated

  • for further reference please check caucasian dance or qataghani. costume to footwork . in india may be you have schools at present. . in past turks /afghans rulers introduced it as imperial court dance and later it inhereted to professional of red light areas.

  • Kathak has pre-historic origins and is far more sophisticated and complex than the tribal and folk dances of Afghanistan. No disrespect, they are the products of Afghani cultural values and have their own charm, but Kathak is another ball game altogether. Please do not use coincidences to conflate and mix-up origins and influences. And FYI, Afghanistan was, even in recent history, a part of India ruled by the Sikhs. Culturally it is not as separate an entity as people would like to believe.

  • Afghan, Rajputs, sikh have same aryan origin. Rajputs and Sikhs also migretted from hills of Pamer bordering caucusian . but for your information Sikhs ruled upto peshawar.

  • @Khorasanzameen

Sorry, but the latest genetic research shows that man came from Africa and settled in South India, from where it all spread outwards. It is MUCH later when the flow began back. Yes, same origin for all, but from India outwards. Hope you can bring yourself up-to-date. And Hindus (there were no Sikhs then) ruled even beyond Peshawar, when the entire middle east was not Islamicised. Cannot launch into a history lesson here, but hit me up if you want more. OK?

  • a little bit change if you accept it. my sources say the place is indonesia or sri lanka. testiment first also confirm it. movement of people from here to there have sense for many reasons. but almost all history confirm Aryan migration from caucasia and central asia to Afghanistan / india. Rajputs were part of that

  • haha if you talk about King Yama then please admit that he was of not migretted from India. He was native of the areas now located at Afghanistan

  • my boy i do agree khattak dance is too old. Even before hinduism. Aryans gave you this religion along with khattak or katthak dance. i never said it islamic dance but similarly it is not a hindu dance. try to check caucasian dances on you tube. see their costumes. caucasian and turks play it more better than indians.

  • Your knowledge is pathetically outdated my friend. The so-called Aryan Invasion Theory has been resoundingly disproved as an imperialist concoction. You are living in a fool's paradise with all your 'beliefs' when the world has moved on. You should do a bit more research before you post with so much 'authority' ! You may think that you are roaring like a lion, but we just see the braying of a pompous ass. Get a life, you retard.

  • @fez30756750

Completely agree! Kathak went FROM India to the middle east and Europe (where it became flamenco) in its gypsy dance form of the banjaras. Now, they tell us that it was the other way around!!! Turks teaching us to dance? When they have NO dance schools or traditions beyond drawing-room 'gharanas'? Lol.

  • @shiva4ever teaching school is needed when you have a few teachers left. when every one is good at that art. when every father knows that art why he will send child to learn at dance school

  • kathana is indian tribe . but dont confuse it with "khattak tribals" . you cant prove where this kind of contumes are used in india? but Afghan female still use similar costume. Khattak still perform this dance where afghans prefer attan dance which is totally different.

  • and you are from mars!!!!

  • @fez30756750

totally agree. What's with these middle east and afghani tribes 'teaching' dance to India. I would write more if I could stop laughing. LOLOLOLOL

  • wish you could see real dance performance in your life. you have as much knowledge of dancing which a frog in your house well have

  • @Khorasanzameen

I don't know what you are trying to say, it must be some peculiar thing you attach importance to, but it does not seem quite pertinent to this video.

Sorry, but I am not clued into quaint Afghani insults. Try something better worded next time.

  • @shiva4ever very simple explanation . she is russian dance. her movement and steping are excelent because she is used to do that. kavkaz , kazik uzbek were part of USSR in the near past history and chechen people are still part of today's russia. so one way or other way she is performing her folk dance . just tag and name of dance got changed

  • You have raised armchair scholarship to dizzying heights. I cannot argue with your great 'insight' that this is in reality a folk dance from the Russian Steppes!!!

You should get the Nobel for everything!

  • u r rite ...

  • @Khorasanzameen

Kathak has its origins in the Rig Veda, where it was developed as a means of devotion to bring paramanand to humans. Later, it also went to Afghanistan and beyond, when that was all HIndu. Does it come as a surprise to you that Afghanistan was once Hindu? What was it before Islam? Have you ever wondered even once?

Don't give us your patronising garbage please. OK?

  • @shiva4ever afghan had a hindu king yama in past but hindu religion was never in majority. hindu minority lived beside zorostarnian, jews and budhists before pre islam history. Afghans are Israelite , other turk clans also were jews before Islam.

  • Someone here needs to actually read a history book. The whole of Afghanistan was Hindu for millennia. Islam is just a very recent phenomenon in comparison. As for rampant Judaism in that region, this is groundbreaking news indeed!!!! According to my knowledge, that was since the last 2000 years, but do you think that there was no history prior to that? What do you think was going on at that time? Any further words of wisdom?

  • why abruptly cut the final Sum!!!!!!why

  • Good but she should have pinned her duputta higher.

  • Kathak is my favourite out of all the indian classical dances. not necessarily the most pathos, but the most fluid and most graceful!

She dances well but still learning - she could do with being less self-concious. should internalise the music.

  • she dosent look like a hindu and isent the performance in russia is she russian?

  • Well all kinds of people in India... She could easily be an Indian Muslim... the Pakistani film actress Zeba bakhtiar looks somewhat similar.

  • she is russian i ve been this concert she is former student of Ashwani Migam

  • that thing she is wearing in her head...what is its name?

  • that piece of jewellery? it's called a teeka. typical for bridal/festival wear in South Asia.

  • i LIKE it!

  • i could have sworn she was going to trip on that BLOODY dupatta

  • aw so preeetty

  • Very nice, like the costume color as well.
