I always whiff the jumping MP when going for the 98 percent stun combo. Makoto either passes the opponent up or the J. MP just whiff completely what am I doing wrong?
@BBoyPhreshershist Make sure you're using j.HP and not j.MP. Try and press the HP as fast as you can in order to make it come out on the earliest timing possible. Outside of this, it's just practice I guess.
I figured out a variation to it, theres some trick to the timing but you can do sjc to jump hk instead of hp, it comes out faster, easier to land, stun is about the same, try that
Rudi, EX Fukiage does as much damage as the MP version and deals 21 stun whereas the other versions deal 29/31/31 stun.
After a air to air Tsurugi you can dash, fukiage and follow up with some more stuff.
I don't know if it only works if the opponent jumps towards you and what Tsurugi/Fukiage versions you can use but it deals a shitload of stun and good damage.
@Nafly2K9 When the Hayate animation is about to finish, I input two QCF's and drum all 3 punch buttons to give me 6 individual chances from the button presses and releases to allow the super to come out. This makes the link much easier. This is also explained in Thongboy's 3S tutorial, look it up :)
@Rudolfolicious Does it matter if you drum the buttons in the opposite order? Say, HP,MP,LP? It's easier for me to drum that way than from low to high.
I had a question. Does the hayate cancel give her frame advantage like in ssf4? I know she can't link anything off it but does she have frame advantage?
I'm really VF player... But SF4 got me into SF and now I have pre-ordered the best 2D game ever (3s of course) on PSN. I will be playing Makoto, so this video is very welcome! Thank you! Such an awesome community!

@OneManArmy519 lol theres no way u will be ready for 3rd strike if your new to this! This game has been played for a decade! And chances if u bein good for online edition are slim. Ur best best bet tho is downloading mame and the cheat.dat file so u can enable training mode :) the ps3 and dreamcast version feel horrible compared to the arcade perfect version so ur better off learning with mame
Oy, this'll take a lot of comments...your SA3 coverage is lacking.
(karakusa) cr.Strong xx SA3, s.Fierce xx Hayate powers up the Fierce instead of the Strong (more dmg), and lets you either do a Fierce Hayate (more dmg) or a held Strong Hayate (more dmg + more advantage), neither of which works off cr.Strong. In fact I don't see you mention using a held Strong Hayate after a s.Fierce anywhere!
(karakusa) s.Fierce xx SA3, cr.RH does massive amounts of stun and is the combo of choice usually.
@MikeZWasTaken The best use of SA3 is to get yourself a perfect reversal - use the flash to determine what the other person is doing, and react accordingly afterward by either standing there to make an attack or throw whiff through you then punishing, or reacting appropriately to take the initiative.
It also raises her chip damage - a blocked RH Tsurugi deals as much chip as a connected s.Strong.
@MikeZWasTaken You can also use SA3 to bait parries - for example, a meaty s.Strong vs wakeup can be option-select late canceled into SA3 to allow you to punish the parry. Same with Oroshis...and if the Oroshi hits, even a Jab version, you can dash up into cr.Short xx Jab Hayate.
The stun combo on AK/RE should be karakusa, Fierce xx SA2 dash HP DP sj MK Tsurugi. The Tsurugi floats higher, allowing a taunt into j.RH s.Fierce xx Hayate for the kill. Otherwise they can shake out if you taunt.
You can juggle Alex with a cr.RH for more stun and damage, but it's a tight link.
You can juggle Hugo with a cr.Fierce.
You can juggle Urien/Necro/Dudley etc with cr.Strong xx Hayate-cancel for more mixup.
vs Hugo, if you do (karakusa) s.Fierce xx Jab Hayate or held Strong Hayate (hold for just enough to go up a level), you can then bait a grab with F+RH, which steps back enough to avoid all 360s and Gigas. If you hold the F+RH you can recover and punish.
@MikeZWasTaken Thanks for the extra information but I really didn't focus on SA3 tactics much just because the other two supers are more viable and have more situational uses. About all the post EX Hayate setups you gave, I just wanted people to know what you're capable of after EX Hayate fundamentally. Had I put every single option after EX Hayate, I would've had to do the same for Stun Combos/Setups too, but I think giving people an idea of how they work makes them try to find more themselves.
Very, very, very good. As a learn as you go Makoto player, finally seeing a tutorial on stuff is really helpful. My game should be improving quite a bit. Thanks.
@PaulOkon1981 I'm thinking of working with players who use those characters to a good level to make those videos. I'll keep you updated. Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback, really appreciated. Any suggestions and improvements for any future videos I make will definitely be taken on board. Thanks!
@Rudolfolicious Suggestion: keep making appropriate musical choices. You have no idea how much a videos quality degrades when you have innapropriate music playing.
Its cool that people are finally doing some 3rd strike stuff, more competition and in no time that garbage fighting game called SSF4 will be wiped out lol, unless if noobs would like to cherish such an easy game.
Since I don't pirate i never really played this game seriously (I've tried it though). I can't wait for the PSN version, will probably play this as my main game then.
@Kelohmello I chuck it up to the nature of the game itself. Aesthetically, the game is suave and simple, yet stylish. It's minimalist in nature, as opposed to SFA3's YOURE DOING COCAINE AND ECSTASY AT THE SAME TIME FIGHT FIGHT TRIUMPH OR DIE. This games 'feel' attracts more subdued soundtracks, and since they don't stray far from the middle (either too fast or too slow in tempo, bass, etc), most people enjjoy them. The games gameplay mechanics are like this as well, ironically.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I didn't play 3s, but I plan on getting the re-release. You've definitely made my learning experience so much easier.
Thanks for uploading this vid. I have played Makoto since Super came out. In fact, she is all I play. Due to this, I'm looking forward to playing 3rd Strike. This tutorial is comprehensive and offers a real insight into playing her on the 3rd Strike version.

Corner EX Hayate:
You can juggle Alex with a cr.RH for more stun and damage, but it's a tight link.
You can juggle Hugo with a cr.Fierce.
You can juggle Urien/Necro/Dudley etc with cr.Strong xx Hayate-cancel for more mixup.
