It would be so much better to make the video after you really learn the piece first.Tempo is andante not adagio or sth. similar to it, you make plenty of mistakes, accents are somtimes silent and the worst your pedal just sucks man read the sheet carefully.
I dont know in which country you live, but in germany for example i can go to a music school which is supported by the staate and ask them to record something at their grands.
Maybe you would like to try this in your home-country? Because there you would have much better sound and also expression, as this piano is definitly not the right instrument to support such a music-piece.
Also you can purchase very good Rode NT5 microphones for around 200 dollar over the internet. They would help
you need to do separate practice as your placing of the notes is not always right but well done for learning it to this standard it what i assume was about ten fifteen minutes thats all it took me to get it that good i can now play it much better that is why i am offering help
technically you play the piece very well, but try and listen to the sound you produce it all tends to be the same you need to play it much quieter in certain parts - look at the copy for guidance, forte, piano etc and I'm sure you'll perfect it
I don't want to sound like I'm getting off at you, but you should reduce your arm movement and play more with the fingers. Your wrist placement being way high is what's forcing you to use your arms to move so much
Most persons don't perceive it at first but the great emotional tension within this masterpiece is that the score has triplets in the left hand and eighth notes in the right. Therein lies the difficulty in performing this most enchanting music. Bravo to anyone who masters it; plus it's indicated as "lento placido" and "sempre legatissimo" so your timing is not far from Listz' original desire. Congratulations!
I thank you for your video. If you'd like to hear a wonderfully performed rendition of the Consolation watch the French film: "Avenue Montaigne" it is played by Jorge Bolet. You will feel the consolation that Liszt intended for us to perceive. I was displeased with the Horowitz and the Rubinstein ones...way too mechanical. I must check out your other videos as well.
this is a wonderful piece. liszt is probably one of the most complex composers of the romantic period. however, he did have several works that personal expression and passion can lend to successfully...this happens to be one of them. you have the notes under your fingers. now all you need is to put some emotion into the piece and it will be splendid.
Hi jjrp1, thank you for your comment, and I do agree with you about the slightly slower tempo in this recording. I actually have a reason for this and it's because I was semi-sight-reading the piece when I was playing it in this recording.
And about the dynamics, it is indeed due to my recording setup, which is quite unfortunate, as I cannot afford expensive recording equipment so I have to resort to using my old digicam.
Thank you very much for your comments though, very much appreciated!

I learnt this piece several years ago, but never committed it to memory. I can't play it anymore!
I might dig it out and try and retain some of my muscle memory. I didn't really like this piece much to be honest.

not bad for such period of time but you are pushing some sounds too much imho. this should sound "consolately"...

The magic from this piece comes from the subtlety of the dynamics, not wild rubarto. Some people rush.. this was the opposite.
It might just be your recording setup that ruins all the dynamics though...

i hear octaves i cant reach.
amethystically 5 years ago
Thanks for commenting! Do you mean you can't reach an octave or over-an-octave chords?
dreampianist 5 years ago
octaves are my maximum, but i'm not too comfortable wth them. that's why fantasie impromptu was a big problem XD.
this piece is nice.. i'll go pick up the sheet music when i find it.
amethystically 5 years ago
Ah I see what you mean. But Fantasie-Impromptu doesn't require any over-octave chords? I can reach a 10th at max (awkwardly).
