  • Your defiantly a bro

  • This is a great vid.. Your play rocks ;)

  • this is great...best tutorial ive found...sounds just like radio city

  • Hey, thanks so much for this tutorial. it is helpful. But I have a question: Instead of always coming back to that C/B chord x25xxx, doesn't he sometimes bar the second fret, and play 2224xx - especially at the "or am I dreaming" part, leading into the jam? The vocals sound more right over those notes, to me. What do you think?

  • has anyone ever told you that you look like feris bueller?

  • Great job guy. Appreciate it dude.

  • Great job guy. Appreciate it dude.

  • when do you do the alternate strumming? is that just every other strum is alternate?

  • is that built on tuner

  • thanks man

  • this is awesome. I see the strumming is very fast can u help explain a bit thanks

  • cool :)

  • Comment removed

  • thanks, this helped me a lot in some parts of the music that i wasn't getting

nice your DMB's covers, i watched some of them

    bye

  • your video was a big help. thanks a ton! you are great and this song is the bees knees

  • great instructional. what model ibanez is that, i have been looking into them. thanks

  • ive been playing guitar for like 4 years and i couldnt seem to figure out this one. with ur video i had the whole song completely down by the end of the video thanks alot great instructional video

  • thanks for the vid mate. Think the chord at 3.22 is wrong though- he switches to a 7th chord leading into the chorus

  • @thevividhaze

yes you are right. Try E7 there.

  • great! thanks!

  • hi. you're really cool. kbye

  • Awesome tut.. Thank you for this. Pretty easy song really.. Keep 'm coming!

  • @cutiepie19191 Sorry, but I would have no idea how to explain the strumming. The best advice I can give you is just listen and feel it. You'll get it!

  • awesome lesson dude

  • nice

  • Whats the easiest Dave song to learn?

  • unfortunatly, most dave songs are made up of difficult chords and progressions. the first song i learned was lie in our graves. although i learned that at a time when i was a pretty good guitar player

  • ha first song i learned too! i play it all the time. it just sounds so sweet.

  • Thanks heaps mate. You explain it really well.

  • Sorry, but what you said means nothing to me. I don't understand anything like that, I just play it the way I see it. I don't know what I'm playing so I describe it as best I can

  • @twostep03 I agree dont worry about these people who try and be critical, chances are they are jealous. Thanks alot for the video, I know my self and alot of others appreciate it when people take the time to teach others.

  • @Scarr420, @twostep03 Yeah man none of that "interval R2D2 C3PO crap"; any true Dave fan will perfectly understand the "Dave chord"

  • Actually, I agree with and understand phyresyde. I play by chord name, so an analysis like that goes much faster for me. Thanks!

  • @twostep03 take guitar lessons maybe youll learn something, he's talking basic frets dude i learned about that the first lesson!

  • @phyresyde just for the record, alot of people refer to chords like that as "dave chords" because they arent used by many or any other artists, songs like typical situation, crash into me, grey street all have examples of those such chords.

anyway, good lesson man, very helpful

  • @phyresyde Why are you being a prick? So it sounds like you know music theory, congratulation but in all honestly who gives a shit. , chords due get labeled with a famous artist who use them all the time. "the pumpkin" which a G octave chord is used a lot in all of the smashing pumpkins music is the same as the Hendrix Chord used by Jimi, also the c9 chord used alot by Jerry Cantrell in AIC.. I always call the alice chord.

  • @phyresyde u just blew my mind

  • @phyresyde

No dude. The verse is is Bm4, Bm46, Em4 to Esus13 (but a reglar Emajor sounds fine instead). Also, what he says about "Dave Chords" is a fine description. Dave Matthews plays voicings of chords that very few people use, therefore he says "We like to call these Dave Chords because no one else plays them." Intervals are chords!

He did a great job teaching the song. Leave him alone. It's uncool of you to try to dazzle people with your knowledge of music theory at his expense.

  • nice tutorial bro

  • hammer ons for crazy how it, once again dmb tabs has it wrong

  • favorite song

  • I can play say "Say Goodbye" and "#41" relatively o.k. Dave chords are very awkward to play for sum people, add on strum patterns and it can be a nightmare for some.Great job Bro! Im gonna check out more of your stuff.

  • awesome-- thanksss a lot

  • your guitar is out of tune.. you weirdo

  • cause its in drop d faggot

  • ITS OUT OF TUNE FUCKWIT. It can be in drop D and still be in tune. learn to play fucking guitar and then try and argue, you fucking moron.

  • your a fucking idiot ive player guitar for 4 years and i tink everybody else that has watched this video agrees with me when i say your a fuckign moron that guitar is not out of tune your just a stpid motherfuck who knows 0 about guitar learn to play then MEYBE you can post comments on videos faggot

  • Use your fucking ear, and you might notice that it SOUNDS SHIT. That's because the guitar is out of tune. Stop being an ignorant mother fucker trying to pretend you know shit about guitar, when you clearly have little to no musical talent. Just because most people can't tell when a guitar is out of tune doesn't mean i am a "faggot". Grow the fuck up, jerk.

  • your the dumbest mother fucker the guitar sounds PERFECTLY fine i havnt seen one fuckign comment on here besides ur faggot ass that says the guitar is out of tune and if u dont like it dont watch the video u dumb fucking cunt learn to play the guitar nobody likes u dont open your mouth all that comes out of it is faggy bullshit your a piece of shit

  • YouTube maturity at its finest. I already know how to play guitar, and all of mine sound better than this $100 piece of crap that he's playing. Once again, just because everyone else is LEARNING GUITAR and can't tune a guitar to save their life, doesnt mean i'm a "dumb cunt". I bet you couldn't tune a guitar to save your life. moron.

  • and thats why there is something called a guitar tuner i dont know if uve ever heard of that but yeah thats wat most people use that dont have downsyndrome like u and i know what guitar he is using and it is 1000$ so nice try your an idiot why do u even argue when everything that comes out of your mouth is stupid shit. you might want to get your ears checked cause if you scroll thru the comments nobody else says anything about his guitar being out of tune.

  • Most professional guitarist DONT use guitar tuners because they're inaccurate as hell. Tuning by ear using harmonics will get your guitar more in tune than a tuner ever will. And, to be honest, I don't care what other people think, the guitar is out of tune. you sir, are a fucking moron to say it isn't. Listen to the first 5 seconds when he tunes it down to D. You can hear that its out of tune. if you can't you clearly have no knowledge on how to tune by ear. i.e. you're a tonedeaf mother fucker

  • i justed fucked you mom in the ass

  • the guitar is worth atleast $450, you can tell from the inlays it has, and the tune is fine.

  • yes, this guitar is a learning guitar. You are exactly right. It cost about 300 bucks, and it did pretty nice for me as a first guitar. Maybe it is slightly out of tune, but who cares. Thats not the point of this video. The point is to show people how to play this song, which I know is tricky when just looking at the tabs. So why don't you stop being an asshole to everyone who appreciates the lesson.

  • yo mark, dont even bother with these assholes.. your covers are amazing and i really appreciate your videos man.. keep playing man

  • thanks man, appreciate it

  • is that a martin sigma series? that was my first guitar as well and i still use it from time to time. its a great learning guitar and depending on how you progress its good up to 2-4 years imo. keep up the good work.

  • lmao

  • how about a grey street tutorial?

  • thanks man!

    great!

  • awesome instructional. i need help getting the strum pattern though could you provide any help? i and most likely others would greatly appreciate it.

  • You have a beautiful voice, thanks for posting!

  • What kind of guitar are you using in your CRUSH video? Is it a Takamine? thanks

  • Thanks. Your cover is very nice also.

  • hey you posted this video after my 15 th brithday

    you're hot

  • i been listening to dave since 1994 and this kid did a great job. so fu haters!

  • haha you thought this was "crash". enough said

  • First off, thank you for this. Lots of help and you're very talented.

Secondly, "Emo", you're an idiot...shut up and go away,

  • hahaha you thought this was crash? what are you retarded?... also "twostep03" do you have this song all the way through without instruction? thatd be helpful, its hard to get one without either instruction or other instruments going on

  • yup its in the video responses

  • ok so 2 things:

    1. This song is NOT Crash, it's Crush. Believe it or not, Dave Matthews has written some other songs besides Crash.

    2. I think it's pretty obvious who the idiot is. You proved my point not just once, but for some reason you felt the need to make the same comment twice.

Know what you're talking about before you make yourself look like an ass next time.

  • that is not the name of the song idiot its CRASH!!!! plus its standard tuning.

  • Laugh OUT Loud @ You sir, lol.

    YOu suck at life

Google Dave Matthew's Band Crush. They're two different songs homie

It would be okay if you were just an idiot...lots of people are idiots. But you're a boisterous idiot...and that requires calling out

  • nice job makes it nice and easy.

  • Also check out Bekker and Layborn for some nice guitar covers of Dave and Tim!

  • Comment removed

  • You might wanna hit the right "reply" button! I'm not offended though - I know my Dave! Not like emomusiclover158 who's clearly been eating way too many paint chips!

  • YOu see, like I said: Lots of people are idiots, LOL!!!

Yeah, it was late last night :)

  • forget the people saying your not a great musician. your voice isnt gonna win any awards but picking up the songs you've got in your library there is pretty sick for someone playing for two years. keep it up, this was a good video, helped alot

  • your really cute haha

  • dmbtabs . com is the best for every dave chord and song tabs.

they have everything besides stand-up for those of you who wont to play more dave

great job though man, this helped a bunch!

  • Fantastic instructional video!!! Thanks!

  • really good thankyou :)

  • Definitely need more of these how-to videos for some of the more complex DMB songs!

  • hey man. great video. i did find an easier way to play the 2nd chorus though. try barring at three, adding your ring finger to d on the 5th, then sliding to the 5th fret keeping the ring on the d at the 7th, then sliding back to 3 and adding the ring so you bar three, and have the ring finger fretting the a and d on five, then finishing with the final chord of the progression. i just found it easier tho keep my hand in the same vicinity.

  • Thanks for the video, man. You just saved me a lot of time with this instructional.

BTW, as a fan check out ReinierMatthews channel. He makes awesome covers of Dave Mathews songs too.

    And ignore the trolls.

  • yea I've seen Reinier...he's the one who inspired me to start playin guitar. I've watched all of his videos at least 5 times. I just hope that one day I can be as good as him

  • haha your stupidity and arrogance makes me laugh

  • Hey Mark, nice video thanks! One (important) question: could you explain what the strum pattern is like? I'm having a really hard time picking it up. Like you said, it's the hardest part of the song--the chords fall in place if you have the strum pattern down. Thanks!

  • Sorry, but I'm afraid I can't really help you out with that...I don't know the technicalities of strum patterns or anything like that. All I can tell you is just feel it. Also, it helps to play along with the song while it's playing

  • That seems to be the general consensus. Thanks anyway.

  • can you please do a video on granny by dave matthews i really want to learn that one

  • Awesome! I've just started trying to play the guitar several days ago. I figured if I'm gonna learn, I may as well play something I like. Hardest thing for me is strumming. I can't strum up without screwin up :/

  • It'll come with time. Just keep practicing!

  • excellent tutorial!!!!

    millibuffs got pwned.

  • ok 2 things:

    1. My hair isn't red

    2. This song is not Crash, it is indeed called Crush...different song. In case you didn't know, Dave Matthews has written many other songs besides Crash

Next time, know what you're talking about before you make a stupid comment like that. All you're doing is making yourself look like an ass

  • hi,you only like Dave Matthews?

  • I like other music too, but as you've noticed, I LOVE DMB

  • How long have u studied guitar?

  • 2 years

  • I absolutely love this song soo much and thanks a lot for making an instructional video for it. You're amazing!

  • Is that a built in guitar tuner in your guitar?

  • sure is

  • All Dave jams would be great! The jam for Dancing Nancies please.

    Great video

  • Excellent detail of string/chord selection. But, a follow-up video on the strumming sequence would be great!

  • here's the thing about strumming...

I havent the slightest idea on how to explain how to strum. I dont know technical terms or anything about different strumming patterns. The one thing I will tell you is you just gotta feel it. If your timing is right, the proper up and down strokes will come naturally.

  • Agreed about the feeling, but how about muted strings? I.E. - On the low E in the 2nd fret and G in the 4th. Sounds like only a select few you're strumming.

  • also very understandable English (for a foreigner)

  • hey... you have nice videos... congrats...

  • thank you

  • could you post the tabs in the description, that would be nice.

  • very helpful video thanks!

  • awesome lesson! great instruction, easy to understand and follow. make more please!

  • glad i could help! what other songs would you like me to do?

  • grace is gone/bartender/where are you going?
