  • This girl is insanely cute! Rachael Id love to take you out sometime, but we'd probably have to text the entire date! Haha!

  • not to be mean but your wasting my time

  • @greedypigfly

Not to be mean either.. but you're wasting my time too

  • You think it stupid of Hearing or Deaf? What are you talking about of Speak out. Sign on? Each person who is Deaf will not understand your video. You will see.

  • I remember this video. This was one of the first ones I watched on YouTube and I could not agree more. I thank Rachael for taking the pointless anecdote down a peg by inviting the world to give their mouth a break for a while and give us all time for reflection. I thought one had to get paid to talk to appreciate silence. Now I feel a bit less lonely. =)

  • GUAPA!!! translate that from spanish ;DD

  • It made me think it was one of those videos that scare you with a sudden image and a scream, theni i noticed it wasn't...

  • pretty cool :D

  • pretty cool :D

  • kino-hochu peremen ,hear/see that song

  • Amazing. I believe this.

Though I'm not very good, I've been learning sign for 3 years..

@84W201 - Being deaf isn't a handicap. It's a way of life. Most of the deaf community do not view it as a handicap- they get offended by the thought of it being called a handicap. If you don't have anything to say, don't say at all. This video was amazing.

  • @AliceviolinistCullen Not being able to communicate with people verbally is a handicap, just like not being able to speak the language of a country that you're visiting. To say otherwise is a pretty big stretch for the sake of being PC to the point of losing touch with reality. I'm learning in order to communicate easier with a friend that was discharged due to total hearing loss. And yea, great video.

  • im teating sign lagnauge

    course aslsign and asldeaffriend

  • I agree. I believe more people should learn sign, as well as try to adapt to anyone with disabilities needs And for all the ignorant comments below, deafness is not a misfortune or an inconvenience. Quit being so close-minded.

  • that girl is so cool

  • HAHAAAA I kow thats right lol...

I see what you mean. That was realy great how you did that. I'm hearing and I took no offense. You are right on point with what you said... I speak asl too and I always loved deaf people

  • the majority population?what are u?nazi?!!!!!!!

  • If everyone used sign all the time we'd look like a bunch of Italians! LoL =) No offense to the Italian people, I'm eternally greatful for the food and family culture! ;)

  • i totally agree with u!!! =]

  • Awesome- you are absolutely right and you know what I have been signing for jsut a few yeers now and it ROCKS!!!

  • It is a very good point and some people will not understand and will probably never understand. But in saying that, and this has come from my very good friend who is deaf, not all deaf people like to interact with hearing. this is no ones fault who would want to when they can't understand you and they all look like fools when "mouthing" so it is no ones fault but lack of understanding that cannot bring to wonderful worlds with some beautiful people from the deaf community and

  • (sorry bout this ran out of room) some beautiful people from the hearing community. Some people are pricks and we have to learn to not be afraid of different. But alas people can be pricks. the best saying i have come across is "those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. :D i hope i haven't insulted anyone in my rant it was not suppose to, just my input :D

  • Thank you for sharing that. It helps to learn what other people experience so we can be more thoughtful of them in the future. Not all hearing are so inconsiderate.

  • My two best friends are both deaf and they are no where near retarded...They are quite intelligent. It is people like you who let things such as a disability (no intent on insulting those of the Deaf culture) get in the way of really getting to know someone and like them for who they are. I bet you don't have very many friends do you Mr. Perfect??

  • I cannot see myself.

  • it is a good video,

    bye.

  • holy shit!, u look damn different and i didnt know u can talk!

  • I love it love it love it... HEH but too bad there are idiots out there who just dont get it.. how it is to be approached and communicated with incorrectly...

  • Shut up.

  • you obviously have a very little brain, don't you??? I just did the Sign for "asshole" and pointed at you... need me to interpret for you??? Dumb-ass!

  • you obviously have a very little brain, don't you??? I just did the Sign for "asshole" and pointed at you... need me to interpret for you??? Dumb-ass!

  • I think she meant that people know that she is deaf, yet they try to talk to her, instead of maybe learning signing.

  • A person that knows one is deaf yet still tries to talk to the other is definitely foolish, by definition.

A wise person would instead use a mutually learned form of communication, the written word. It would be faster than learning a new language for the short term, i.e. for transacting a sale, or asking for directions.

For a meaningful relationship to develop, obviously, one would need to learn sign language to maintain the relationship.

  • Thought I was supposed to notice that the video was blurry, which makes yer eyes go scary.

  • Hey, i love this video, i dont know sign, i intend to learn it. Ive already learned 3 languages.

Your very unique, this video is just simple and gets apoint through.

I promise ill get to it

    -dustin

  • I agree with you on this. If Americans took the time to learn sign it would make the US better. And I can hear so thats saying a lot. I have taken the time to start to learn sing and I enjoy it. I try to get some people I know inrerested in learning sing, but they are all to lazy

  • looks like melissa george

  • this is the only place i read all the comments and i have to agree with mifunequixote if deaf people sign more in public i personally wouldn't be nervous to sign with them.. i know asl its a beautiful way to talk.. like dancing with the words i love it. ya im hearing but that doesnt mean i'm an idiot i did go with out sound i pluged my ears pretty tight it was better less annoying hah but fun to see people find different ways to communicate.

  • You have to be careful... My opinion: Suggesting that people look foolish is more apt to make them angry than encourage them to sign. My goal is the same as yours, everyone should learn to sign, but signing classes are generally expensive, and some people can't see why they should learn to sign when they could be learning yoga, or Spanish, the population of signing deaf is too small for many hearing folks to make it important to them. My theory: Signing in public is the best ad for signing.

  • just so you know, you can learn ASL at any community college for less that $100 a quarter :) But yes, I will say that Signing in public does catch the hearing devils' attention... I love the way they either are fascinated with it, or TOTALLY try and look the other way and ignore me, lol!

  • lol my 2 yr old cant help it. she knows some signs. but there all animals. so when she sees someone signing she runs up to them and strings together the weirdest things. lizard ,cow pig ,grass ,summer.

that is when you get the real nice looks. LOL

  • None of us wants you to feel bad for us. Being deaf does NOT suck. The point is most hearing people are audists, whether they realize it or not. When faced with a deaf person, most hearing people would just ignore them and walk on by. Try plugging your ears for even one day and see how the world will treat you then.

  • What is your oppenion on prosthetic limbs? At least most deaf people can walk down a street without people staring at you.

What is your oppenion on cochlear implants?

Why is becomming able to hear any different than becomming able to walk, or becoming able to eat without help? Is it good or is it bad?

  • My opinion on prosthetic limbs - people will look at you funny currently, but we are entering the star wars tech age, where people's artificial limbs will become as good as or better than our flesh and blood.

I could counter with "if you have a prosthetic limb, at least you can communicate with the people staring at you". You should see the stares deaf people get when someone says something, and we miss it, and they get all mad.

I guess it all depends on what kind of stare you prefer.

  • you misunderstood my meaning behind prosthetic limbs, I ment people stare at you when you dont wear them. with them, good ones, it's hard to tell the difference. I had a friend for five years before I knew he had a prosthetic foot.

but, if a deaf person gets a cochlear implant, is it different than a person getting a prosthetic limb?

I am not trying to make a point, I really want to know your oppenion.

  • I wish you would make more videos. I'd like to see you signing.

  • lol awesome

  • I'm taking a class and it's sooo much fun! I've made some deaf friends and signing is even useful in my life as a hearing person surrounded by other hearing people. Learning sign is just like learned french or spanish except unfortunately, like spanish people can learn english, deaf people can't, so we have to give a little and learn to communicate with them! Loved the video, I'll tell everyone I know to learn ASL!

  • sold without belief

  • hey so true

    i kno sum sign language

  • i see her here on youtube getting her message across. what is she b1t*%#g about, anyway? is everybody supposed to learn to sign just to talk to the few they meet in their whole life who are actually deaf? is that what she wants?

  • I am gunna go get a beer.

    who cares..

    OI

  • how do you think we feel about you, trying to talk sense into you guys all day, but you don't understand a single word.

  • Agreed with this video. Good one Rachz!

  • I thought she was deaf or handicapped, immedietly after watching this video I thought of my husband and how he cant hear me everyday when hes whatching tv. lol

  • This is a good video.... it makes want to pt earplugs in my ears for a day to see what it's like. Five stars.

  • I'm not sure what message about hearing or not able to hear sounds due to the fact that you can't and it does not make you less or strange or less smart or unable to communicate.(except for maybe now, :P kidding with you) i can't see your hands at all. I want to learn hand signing, teach us. I really mean that. Thanks

  • So cute.

    So rude.

  • I really love this video

  • Sign should be tought at schools. It would widen kids' horizons.

  • THANK YOU!

  • The only reason I would learn sign is if I knew someone who was deaf (partially or totally), otherwise I wouldn't invest the time.

  • FYI...hearing aids only correct hearing loss in certain situations. For someone who is completely deaf, it wont work at all and in other cases if people cant hear well and a lot of their hearing sounds like static, it just makes it louder. Sort of like if the radio is in between stations and youre hearing static, turning it up all the way is just going to make it louder not allow you to hear whats being said.

  • can't be assed!

  • Your pretty gorgeous...

  • Beautiful girl o.o and powerful video to boot.

  • You should make some videos teaching us a few things! I think that would be way cool, and I bet a lot of us would learn from it! :D

  • i was just asking girl.

    WTF is problem too??

    are you guilty?

you know you did it ayt.

  • You should teach us to sign

  • im working on it, do know where i can learn? suggestions would be great, i lost my voice and a couple amazing people at my school speak sign... plus its a really good thing to know. is there a good free website i can learn?

    help would be appreciated!

    -Luci

  • learn sign? I'll learn sign when I know someone who's deaf. You could say the same thing about not speaking spanish or german. Yeah, you might seem like a fool if you speak english to a spanish speaking person but so what? We learn languages when we require them. If I wind up with a deaf child or a deaf girlfriend , i'll learn sign, until then, I've never met a deaf person so don't be so arrogant about your demands.

  • Awesomes!....Sign is my third language to learn...I'm working on it right now and teaching it to everyone around me.

  • ok. i dig the message. but instead of just saying "go do it" why not teach it? do a video blog. maybe do a word a day? or if you havent got the time a few words a week. then at least you can say "its here you have no reason not too!" id tune in just coz your cute.

  • Silentbluerose, U Rawk! Amazing how many just "you're pretty" and "I hate you" comments you've gotten, shows how hearing can reduce your IQ. One guy said "learn to read lips"! I got a sign for that guy, requires a trip to the dentist afterwards, though. Deaf people are cool. My friends and I used to eat at a pizza place close to Kansas School for the deaf in Olathe. Better than sitting there listening to some loud mouth that thinks the whole world cares what he or she thinks!

  • *gasp* all u white men are the same patheic.. it just shows how desperate you are yepp. *gasp*

  • "hateupponassholes"? Gee, is that sign on sort of "baiting" or what? Am I supposed to argue with you, congratulate you or say thanks? Because, you don't make any sense at all. I'm pretty sure you're an idiot so this is the end of my response.

  • well thats a pretty lame response for a 60 year old guy posting videos of himself every second.

  • you are cute

  • Touche, but yeah ive seen deaf people on the news and all but I have never met one in real life.

  • I can honestly say I have never met a deaf person in my life.

  • Can you feel the drops in room tempretures and the wind move when people walk meters behind you. I wouldnt worry about hearing people, they mostly talk shit anyway. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH, CRAP!!!, im from melbourne by the way

  • preyator you're so stupid i wanna sell my eyes to avoid reading comments like yourz

  • LOL nice

  • Not really gonna bother learning sign or whatever to communicate with people like her.

  • i know right?

    no offence what a bitch

  • I like your message !

it could have been a little more friendly,

    but no big deal.

  • I know auslan and babie sign i have hearing problems in my family

  • I noticed it, but I didn't SEE it.

  • Rachael:

I have a good friend whose wife knows how to sign and works at the state School For The Deaf here in Mississippi. I'd like to learn to sign myself! I know some foreign languages, in part, anyway, and someone thought maybe I knew how to sign, because of that. I explained that signing is a WHOLE different concept! I've seen some folks who can sign so fast I'm not sure I could keep up if I DID know how! Can you read lips? maybe I could do a vid for ya! ; ) Let me know! God Bless! : )

  • You're pretty.

  • Hear! Hear! It'll be easier for us deafies if that happens!!! Thanks!!

  • Very well done!! Thank you

  • she is still sexy I dont care wat enyone says :)

  • She's so beautiful.

  • I began learning sign when I was dating a deaf girl. It didn't last, but our differences had nothing to do with out hearing abilities...

  • I pity you, Rachael.

I will seek to it that I learn the basics of sign.

  • great video.. :) makes people think, did you know it hurts some people to think :) lol

  • damn that was a boring video. ohh well...

  • Ok, so I got that wrong, I'll admit that. But, it's still an insult to me and everyone else who isn't like her. Just because I can talk that makes me look like a fool? That kind of logic I can't understand. I do pay attention, but if the video conveyed a little more about her situation, and was longer, it would have more point to it, would it not?

  • It's a matter of perspective is it not ?

To her we look like fools when we move our mouths and there is no sound, to some of us she sounds like a fool when she speaks because deaf people can't hear the mistakes they make.

I probably shouldn't have added to the problem by calling you a fool, sorry about that, but it did seem like you were missing the point.

Surely the point of this vid is that a deaf girl can show the hearing majority what it feels like to be in her world for a minute.

  • borrrrrrrrrring.

  • Boring enough for you to send a derogatory comment??? What is ASL for slap yourself?? Oh ya... It is slapping yourself. Please practice this untill you are no longer bored.

  • Oh, I'm sorry--now calling something boring is derogatory. Just because someone has a disability does not mean that they can't be boring along with the rest of us. The video is boring to me, regardless of who is making it. Stop trying to be so politically correct all the time, it's annoying.

  • Politically correct? Are you insane or just oblivious? You just proved her point by typing what you think. Yelling out boring at something is a childish attempt to win favour from your peers. If you had not realized that by now then you probibly never will. Calling me politically correct is just about the dumbest thing I've heard all week.

  • lol, as long as dead people feel good about themselves, good for them. Hopefully in 20-50 years medical science will restore all handicapped people to 100%.

  • If you exclude the fact that the ability to hear is the basis for most forms of communication or there are still dangers we use hearing to avoid(e.g. cars, trains, alarms) then yeah it is useless.

  • Wow. People relax. And here's how. The American Sign Language Browser has Quicktime videos of how to sign specific words. Just google ASL browser and it will be the first listing. It's fun, it's interesting, it's educational. So if you are bored, which describes a lot of people who have been posting lately, try this site. Imagine if you met someone awesome like her and the only way you could communicate was with sign language. Be prepared. You never know.

  • Thanks! I work in a pharmacy and i've already had to teach myself French and Spanish to be able to communicate to some of our customers and we had a new man just today come in and I felt so bad that all I knew was thank you!

  • Here's an idea for your next video project: Getting captions on ALL TV, DVD, and internet video. At least, having the option to have them would be nice.

  • well done!

  • Thank you Rachel, I wish everyone new sign as well, and I am hearing....

  • you mean knew...learn english and maybe we'll learn some sign language for you.

  • I'm not sure how to take that comment...Are you TRYING to be mean and nasty???

  • No, I'm not trying to be nasty, I'm just mean :)

Can you cope with that? :D

  • What is the point of being mean...You just piss people off. What are you 15 years old or something? There is no reason to be a jerk to everyone it gets you know where in life!

  • now here's a 13year old, giving me thumbs down.geez look nitwit, im not being mean, i was just fuckin with you, but it seems u are so dumb you cant tell the difference, besides, u still write with no intonation whatsoever and dont know grammar!!! for the record, it;s one word, "nowhere" not "know where". peace out

  • I could give a flying fuck about spelling, thats the great thing about the internet. Is this what you do all day pick on people and then bitch about there grammer???

I'm not in the "MOOD" to be fucked with, so drop it.....

  • No that's not what i do but tell you what, you drop some pounds, and maybe you find that job you so much care about ;) correct me if im wrong but you do want a job wright?

  • Listen Ass hole, I have a job! Get off my fucking case and go bug someone else!

  • ok, thx for cursing. That shows ur IQ right there.

p.s. oh, and u were wondering what the internet stands for, well for a nitwit like you, IT CANNOT cover the grammar mistakes u make! but u can use shorcuts and acronyms, have a pleasant day :)

  • could be a typo. but your too busy judging to realize multiple possibilities along with the point being put infront of your face

  • :-D You're great! I'm glad you encourage people to learn sign, because most people feel like intruders or jerks somehow asking to learn.

  • You made up an excellent point of view for all the people who have all the luck to hear everything loud and clearly.

  • she is still HOT! :)

  • aaand you havent got any taste whatsoever in women :)

  • naw man she is a pretty girl, you must like hairy cave-troll women if you think speedy's got bad taste

  • I remember in my ASL class we had to watch a movie we all saw thousands of times before, yet it was muted. It was really boring (since we are so use to hearing) but it was so interesting X3

  • it was so boring and at the same time so interesting? How can u say that in the same sentence? what a nuisance!

  • You read it the bad way. It's only a Nuisance to you because you protrayed it as 'oh look this person is saying its stupid' No. I'm not. I respect ASL and I took classes for it. It's just if your a hearing person living in a hearing world and you watch a video mute for the first time, you loose your attention span. Try it yourself.

  • no, i protrayed it as "this person doesnt know what the fk is talkin about".

Besides theres no point in me saying something when you are all so intrugued by this rachel person.

and one more thing, you realize how much you cared for something only when you've lost it, so maybe that will give you a head start. ciao!

  • Wrong again. I've taken the class, and I don't regret it at all, and I didn't care for not finishing learning it because my teachers kept quitting. In fact, I don't really care to relearn it because I know it'll happen again, and since I live in a non-mute community, there's almost no point in learning it. So here's a headstart for you, "Ciao".

  • boy you're a "dumb dumb". Can't you think of anything more useful to do with your time? Time is money they say. And since there's no point in using the sign where you are, whats the point? You really should start thinking twice abiut your actions.

  • Sure, right, well while your twittling your thumbs with stupid comebacks, i'm going to enjoy watching videos instead of listening to someone go in circles. :3 Enjoy your circles, ass.

  • not so bad at all!

  • she's still hawt

  • I can hear perfectly lol

  • Well don't that beat all. You know I really don't get how this was on the related videos for Syphon Filter: Logans Shadow. But either way, it's a refresher.

  • your hot.....:)

  • why didn't you approve my video response?

  • She doesn´t hear your idiot!

  • lollersk8s, my bad!

  • To paintthewhatever: You don't need to learn sign, nor Spanish, or anything for that matter. If you want to experience more and with more people then you have that option to learn how to do that. Signing is one of those ways. By the way, she is extremely smart and really doing good things for people. It's not often that you find heroes so cherish those that you do find.

  • Wow, way to kill the mood. Mr. Serious face.

  • heroes die, legends live. decide which is which in your proposal buddy ;)

  • To Backtrap: you are reading too many comic books. what you said is nonsense.

  • dont use that as an argument, its just plaing dumb. hero or no hero, good deeds don go unpunished, keep that in mind.

p.s. if u feel like replying to my other posts, feel free about it, im just gonna ignore though, cuz of your incompetence :) peace out

  • I stand by my statement. One that obviously hit home with the truth. Comic books are fine, but you need to experience more and not use them to form your philosophy.

  • god whats wrong with you?I dont read any comic books, you should though, u lost your sense of humor long time ago. Whats the matter, job is too hard on you?wife at home is whining all the time? just get over it.

  • kind of sexy she doesent talk shes mi kind of chick :)

  • she talks! she's just deaf.

  • Yeah,if only men came like that too.

  • Good point!

  • Some of us try real hard to look like fools

  • Are you related to Helen Keller?

  • id learn sign for you <3

  • this was cool and inspiring! i've been thinking the same thing. gladly i've been learning some basics of sign language. i worked in a kinderkarden once and they thaught sign alphabets to the kids. dunno why i'm yapping about. cool vid, though.

  • why would any one think hearing impaired people are stupid? thats redonkulus. actually you guys are probably smarter.

  • Hi! Rachael, right?

Hi. My sister saw this and wanted me to watch it. We couldn't agree with you more. People are made to take Spanish as a second language due to Hispanic immigrants, but no one bothers to try and learn Sign-language. I have actually been wanting to lean to sign since I was 12, and my sister-in-law is semi-fluent in Sign language. I can sort of finger spell, but I hope to be able to learn more soon! ^_^

  • I have NEVER and I mean Never thought the hearing impaired were stupid, or unintelligent for that matter. And I feel sorry for anyone who does. Also, your very beautiful. Peace and Love :)
