  • "The only thing to hold onto in life is each other."

    -Audrey Hepburn

    She's *my* inspiration! :D

  • Fear can be a good motivator for begginers, LOVE is the ultimate motivator, think about doing something just because you love it or because it benefits the ones you love (urself included) and you'll see the difference!! If this would be my last day on earth I'd do what I always do, waking up, bathing, working, eating with my family, have fun with them, telling them how much I love them, probably surf the net one last time and a last glass of scotch. All that matters is here and now!! XOXO

  • What you percieve is reality. If your perceptions change, so does your reality.

  • Never give your only copy of anything to anyone at any time, ever.

  • "It'll get better eventually, even if you never think it will", if I'm feeling depressed.

  • "To finish first, first you must finish."

  • How about "Poop happens. If it didn't, you should probably see a doctor..."

  • 'we must become the change we want to see'

    Gandhi

  • It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence, to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: "And this, too, shall pass away." How much it expresses! How chastening in the hour of pride! How consoling in the depths of affliction!

  • incredibly late, but... still good in whatever season you're in.

    "love wins."

  • "The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places." Hemingway

There's more to the quote, but this is the part that can be seen as optimistic and is not self contradictory.

  • Love like you've never been hurt.

  • "Art, in itself, is an attempt to bring order out of chaos."

    — Stephen Sondheim

^^This one's one of my favourites, and it seems to keep me focused when working on a personal project.

I'll leave you with this though. :]

"I prefer neurotic people. I like to hear rumblings beneath the surface."

    — Stephen Sondheim

  • "TIme flys like fruit, and fruit flys like banana's"

  • You mean:

"Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana." --Groucho Marx

  • i guess mine would be

"Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you still hit the stars." -forgotten author

and if you need something to lift your mood, you can always print a picture of a slum in Manila and remind yourself you dont live there :P

  • But the moon is MUCH closer than the stars. That quote should really be reversed.

  • right, but "the stars" (as in space in general) is a far larger target thus MUCH easier to "hit". so imo the saying works just fine :)

  • You have a point there. After I submitted that comment, i wondered what in the world I was thinking. :P

  • people don't lack strength,they lack will

  • No matter what you eat you die of it eventually.

  • who dares, win

  • you're trying to find something, inspiration, look where you haven't looked yet.

i decided that i would pick up an encyclopedia and read every passage. no matter how boring i thought it would be. I became curious about things i thought i already knew about or otherwise thought would bore me. i became curious again, like when i was a little kid.

  • Can February March No but April May

  • "Any landing you can walk away from is a good one"

    Unknown

I always liked that one because the theory behind it is it doesn't matter what you need to do to accomplish your goal (landing the plane, in this case) as long as you reach the goal.

  • "Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new."

    - Albert Einstein

  • I write a list of everything I can reasonably do to achieve my goals and then try to stick to it, mostly academic related. im now in honors so it seems to be working but I had to spend less time at the gym ...

Don't ask Eskimos for coconuts. -- Wm. Varrius

  • "After the game,

the king and the pawn go into the same box."

    Italian Proverb

This one is particularly good if you're feeling down and measuring your success against others. Or if you feel that someone is looking down on you. It's a very nice perspective quote. Basically, at the end of the day, regardless of success, we're all still people. Or, from a reverse perspective, if you're being a jerk to like, homeless people, you can look to this quote and be all like, "Ohh, yeah, they're human."

  • Whether you think you CAN or CAN'T--You're RIGHT! =D -Elanor Roosevelt

  • I don't really have any quote or mantra. For inspiration, I look to history. Tales of adventure and daring that make me realize the potential of the human race.

  • If you feel tack of motivation, just wait :) Things will change on Monday, Saturday or Sunday ;)

  • Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes

  • So many great quotes already here - I won't try & compete with them.

But; (and I know this is cheesey)

If you feel your life is in need of a spiritual lift and you do something to help someone else; this makes you feel better about yourself. ...Which stops it being a 'selfless' act of course, but both of you still benefit from it.

  • The below quote is from Yamamoto Tsunetomo's Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai. (Ran out of characters to include.) Enjoy!

  • "When I was young, I kept a 'Dairy of Regret' and tried to record my mistakes day by day, but there was never a day when I didn't have twenty or thirty entries. As there was no end to it, I gave up. Even today, when I think about the day's affairs after going to bed, there is never a day when I do not make some blunder in speaking or in some activity. Living without mistakes is truly impossible. But this is something that people who live by cleverness have no inclination to think about."

I tend to get overwhelmed easily, so it helps me.

    and

  • Whenever I used to go to my father troubled he would say to me, "son, that isn't a problem, that is merely a challenge, a real problem is being dead because then you will never again be able to experience the satisfaction of rising above these sorts of challenges".

    It's always worked for me.

    it's written on my wall.

    Another: "Why not?"

  • I think to live by one phrase is kind of dumb. Sometimes the 'live each day as it were your last' does apply. Its good to live with no regrets because otherwise you will always be worrying about the past and never be about to enjoy the present. There is no reason to live in fear either. Just live.

  • Watching you do your thing upside down is fun! :) And the hippo being drawn is right side up!

  • Go outside and get lost. adventure will find you.

  • I don't have a mantra but I find those big life changes are huge motivators for me. When you've done something drastic to shake up your life it makes accomplishing your goals more important.

It was a break-up that lit a fire under me. Maybe for you it should be your recent move. I know living in LA isn't easy, just keep reminding yourself why you're there.

We laugh at how he looks to us,

    Peace, peace, thou hippopotamus!

As you no doubt delight the eye

  • i got this stupid saying in a chocolate wrapper and i've had it hanging by my bed for a couple months. it says something like "do a little more each day than you think you could"

and i can't seem to get it out of my head. it really sticks. i'm one of those indecisive people who finds it's always easier to say no.. but with that phrase stuck in my head i've found myself in some surprising (and good) situations, because i force myself to just try shit. yeah.

  • I LOVE the idea of a hippo lunchbox. It makes putting together an earthquake kit so much more fun. I just added some cans of mac and cheese for my hippo!

  • rofl.. wow april 1st is crazy

  • Hope motivates.

  • Brigitte, you put together an Earthquake kit and didn't make a video about it?!? What's up with that?
