With Mainstage now very affordable, can I rewire Mainstage into Abelton,my daw of choice? Does this technique run the same in reverse,I suppose that's the best way to ask.
Being new to both Reason and Logic, this was very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to do these. I am subscribing to your channel here and know I will learn a good bit from you. Thanks!!
Ive used your video to rewire abelton and logic. I just want to be able to record the drum rack as logic midi. So it works and everything when I record it live but no audio or sound when the midi notes are played back!
@johnralex I had the same problem. In case you haven't discovered this already, restarting your computer and opening logic before reason might just do the trick.
Great videos! But here's something that maybe you could help me with (and maybe a few others). Do you know how to use Battery 3 with Logic 9, each beat on its own mono track? I am having quite a time doing this in Logic 9. I've gone as far as to create a multi-timbral B3 instance, which creates 16 MIDI Tracks, but after that I'm stumped! How do I route these? Why won't it record MIDI? It's not like Reason where I can quantize and arrange, then bounce to audio perfectly. Haaaalp!
Would this essentially be the same process to control Waves Tune with ReWire in Logic? I mix pre-recorded tracks so midi is not my forte... but I do understand the basics. I enjoy your videos... it's takes a unique person to be able to teach, so much appreciated.
The only problem I have with this is that once I save and quit logic and reason, and then reopen them at a later time, I find that I have to reasign all my external midi tracks which were previously routed to reason instruments, is there a way around this so that all my reason instruments are automatically routed again? Something about quitting logic seems to remove the connections while all other midi data stays intact
I am curios, i did everyhting the way you said, and it works just fine, but my question is.. as the I/O is now running in rewire mode, how do i sample into reason.. ie with kong?

Thanks so much for these awesome videos SFLogicNinja! They help out tremendously and not only are they very educational, they're quite entertaining! You rawk!
im having trouble playing multiple reason instrument because Im hearing all instruments play at the same time. How do I separate them so they dont all play at the same time? I tried to to just select the instrument via media Library but still didn't work, what should I be doing?
@markshotta in Reason, disable your keyboard's midi input, or make sure that the tracks in Reason are not record enabled. Reason is trying to play the instruments and Logic is as well.
HEy I rewired and everything thank you for that but I'm getting a strange airy sound whem using samples with Dr Rex. It's almost like a little reverb is added to the sample..all I have going is Dr Rex the mixer and the rewire slave. Do you know what the problem could be?
Hey David. Thanks for all the great info and for sharing your love of music. Quick question. I have successfully rewired reason to logic, but when I use my sustain pedal on my MIDI keyboard, I can hear the sustain through my monitors, but the MIDI info does not transfer to Logic, so things sound very staccatto. What is up yo?

I run first Logic, then Reason but i can't see the "rewire" mark on the Audio Out. why is that ? Im using Logic Pro 9 and I want to rewire with Reason 3.0.4.
You say I can call you whatever you want? I'll call you a saint! Your method of explanation and dialogue gave me a great understanding of the relationship between logic and "outside" midi, all wrapped up in an entertaining and personal tone. Many thanks from Michigan!

hey nice video- just wondering if you did any sequencing in reason and then exported the finished project in logic -would the sequenced data shown in reason be exported with the rest of the project in logic??
I had been getting no noise from Reason, even after setting up the AUX track... and then I realized, the AUX tracks DEFAULT TO -∞ meaning the fader has nothing coming through. Kind of crap. But it helps to remember that.
Thank you SO MUCH! I was trying to ReWire Siblieus 6 to Logic Pro 9 and was getting NO SOUND out of Sibelius. Nowhere did anyone think to tell you that you need to set up an AUX track to LISTEN to the audio coming from your slaved program. Set up the AUX track and voila, I can now hear my Sibelius sounds. Thanks a TON!
the only problem with this is that you have 3 track for one synth or sample (midi, aux & audio track to record) when you have 20tracks of sound it give you 60 tracks loll ... do you have any other technique in rewire to record reason sound with less track so that i can create music a not using my time to record stuff.... :P thanks

Hey ninja thx 4 everything you rock man , it worked for me the only thing is that i have an annoying latency, what can i do ? i have my buffer setting to 128 but i still have latency ...

Thor's 'The Val' or 'The Val (Cry)' f.... ROCKS DUDE!!!!!! IT'S THE BEST THOR'S SYNTH!!!! the onlyone that can make that Trance Synth is Hypersonic 2, but I don't have that one for Mac ='(
Thanks for this. Recently upgraded to Logic and couldn't get anything from Reason to play in it. This pointed me in the right direction and got me audio.
I have a problem: When I open a project with Reason tracks (already wired and worked form the last time). Logic does not remember the Reason Channel on the Library. I have to go through all of the selecting Reason channels for the Logic tracks manually again every single time. What's the way to avoid this?
Thanks so much for this video! I'm new to Logic and teaching it to myself. I've been using your video as a reference each time I rewire Reason until I can memorize it.
I don't use rewire or reason yet but it seems like you should be able to skip the aux track and bring the audio from reason directly into an audio track in Logic. Whats stopping you from doing that? Also, wouldn't it make more since to take all returning audio to tape? I have limited processing power so this would take up less resources it seems. Is that correct?
What are the chances they will ever put out a plug-in version of reason? Just the rack and all instruments, no sequencer. I'd even pay the same price for it!
Ok so I was able to record a midi track in logic but the problem is that when I go to play the track back, there is no sound from reason. And the reason why I want to play the track back is so I can quantize it and then rerecord it now that it's quantized. So I basically have to rerecord a midi track in reason and then record an audio track in logic. Its all so confusing. I hope someone understands what I mean.
I switched to Logic relatively recently and love it! Your videos, Dave, are great and I learnt more in an evening watching them than I have on my own in 6 months! Keep up the good work!
got a questions when i rewire reasons in my pro tools 8 and or my logic 8 it plays all the sounds at once so if i have reasons on track one and a different reasons plugin on track 2 it will play both sounds at the same time
would you happen to have a video where say for example you made a beat in reason, but you would like to put it in logic without using reason anymore?... if you dont could u please please please help me out... because i have hundreds of beats in reason but i want them all in logic now! thank you...
on the aux track that monitors the Reason MIDI .... Set the output to be a bus instead of something like Output 1-2 . So say Bus 1-2. Then make an Audio track with the input Bus 1-2 and the output going to you external sound source like Output 1-2. This will allow actual waveforms that you can record in logic therefore since its audio you wont need Reason to listen to it after its recorded. I think this should answer your question..
David Earl U rock.... great tut. I would add that u could just render the tracks to audio files in the reason file menu and drag the reason tracks rendered u want onto Logic audio tracks.
I opened up logic and then reason, reason was in slave mode but when i created an external midi track reason did not show up, all it says was GM Device, Other Objects and USB Uno Midi Interface on the right hand bar. What do i need to do or how do i get it to work?
thanks for the post but the problem is when you add any additional internal software tracks and try to use logic sounds along with the reason tracks the reason sound interferes with the logic sounds how do i seperate them
GREAT TUTORIALl! I have a question that i guess would be the next step in using this method. With Reason and Logic rewired, how do i create tracks AND mixer tracks in Logic for additional Reason instruments? Every time i try it just creates additional mixer tracks for the first Reason instrument, which is cool for "beefing up" or doubling the sound.... but it's not what i need right now. Thanks!
You know how I can use logic effects like reverb through rewiring it to reason ? Like u know how I can reverb reason instruments in logic ? That's my only problem with rewiring it to reason. I can't find a way to use reverb like that. So plz if you know help me out.
First time around I couldn't figure out how to record drum loops from Reason onto Logic, but paying more attention to the second half took care of that bug.
Awesome video, most helpful I've yet seen on this site. Thanks
Found out how to do it! I bounced the tracks from logic and saved an aif file onto my desktop. Opened up a new track in Logic that was AUDIO, selected that in the window and then went to FILE, IMPORT AUDIO FILE. All good!! :)
same for me...this video helped SO MUCH for using synths in Reason....BUT, when I try to record Dr. Rex or ReDrum, it comes through with sound, but it doesn't record anything. Help please! :)
I've got reason to rewire the thor synth and recorded fine. when i added the redrum and tried to record in a separate aux track in logic i had no luck. little confused. how come i can't record the redrum separately ?
when you bounce down the individual regions if they are soloed does it bounce down everything else in the project meaning really big files or will it just bounce the soloed regions?
never ever posted any comments on anything on the internet... till now. I sincerely appreciate the time you took to create this to help people.. and me! you just saved an hour (maybe 2) of my time.
Hi I dont know what to say man accept THANK you, even that I dont speak very well english I can perfectly understand you.I worked until now on PC runing Logic 5.5.1 and month ago I bought mac G 5 and Logic Pro 8(I know I am very Late)and I must say that diffrence is very big,so you are very helpful to me Thanks again ciao...
Really enjoying your tutorials mate.just purchased logic after a year of messing with reason so really appreciate this vid or as we say in new zealand-choice bro
The basics cannot be ignored as they are vital to laying a clean foundation. So it's important that you explain the basics to people, no matter what others might say or how boring it might sound.
i dont have logic but dude your amazing your actully taking time to help people thats wicked nice to be ohnest i dont really understand some of the vids but still dude your amazing pce out dude!
Great help bro! I was wondering though if you have any suggestions as to why Reason 4 will not enter slave mode with Logic Pro 7, as is the case for me. I obviously opened logic first, then reason, however no rewire connection. Also, when I use GarageBand as the "master", Reason automatically enters slave mode as it should. Any solutions? I'm working on an Intel iMac if that's useful information.
I was in way over my head with Logic before I found your tuts. Stellar job! Easy to understand, Nice video caps, and funny at times too. These have really helped be to getting off and running. Also, check out the UCLA student taser remix. It's hilarious.
thank you very much. very helpful. sometimes they never really show you the simplest things and its nice that you have spelled it out simply so i dont have to trial and error for 6 hours just to get reason and logic working together. -R
True, but in the heat of writing, I get annoyed at having to cable all of the Reason instruments al the time. i get selective about which tracks are going to be split out when I work with this config...
Awesome, thanks for the tip. I couldn't figure out why all the lights were flashing but there was no sound coming out of Logic!

I got this working and can play with my Oxygen 8 in Logic and hear Reason-synths coming back through an aux.
But Reason doesn't react to anything that I program in the Piano Roll in Logic.
Anyone know how to do that?
freddriktube 2 years ago
I switched to Logic relatively recently and love it! Your videos, Dave, are great and I learnt more in an evening watching them than I have on my own in 6 months! Keep up the good work!

got a questions when i rewire reasons in my pro tools 8 and or my logic 8 it plays all the sounds at once so if i have reasons on track one and a different reasons plugin on track 2 it will play both sounds at the same time

Aux 1 Output = Bus 1 (which is Aux 2, Reason being Aux 1)
Audio 1 Input = Bus 1
carlellement 2 years ago
on the aux track that monitors the Reason MIDI .... I think this should answer your question..
myzterious111 2 years ago
Ok I get it now! Thanks man. It's one of those things that you need someone to explain to you by writing it down, you know what I mean!
jfalconebmop 2 years ago
The only problem is that I can't put it to bus 1 and 2. I can only put it to 1 bus. Therefore, the track is no longer stereo, its mono I think.

What do i need to do or how do i get it to work?

thanks for the post but the problem is when you add any additional internal software tracks and try to use logic sounds along with the reason tracks the reason sound interferes with the logic sounds how do i seperate them
jdelevante 3 years ago
GREAT TUTORIALl! I have a question that i guess would be the next step in using this method. With Reason and Logic rewired, how do i create tracks AND mixer tracks in Logic for additional Reason instruments? Every time i try it just creates additional mixer tracks for the first Reason instrument, which is cool for "beefing up" or doubling the sound.... but it's not what i need right now. Thanks!

Is there any reason reason wouldn't fire up in rewire mode after you have opened logic?
Mind doesn't, yet I can't find anything on the net that tells me why this could be?
Thanks.

All good!! :)
galacticboy 3 years ago
same for me...this video helped SO MUCH for using synths in Reason....BUT, when I try to record Dr. Rex or ReDrum, it comes through with sound, but it doesn't record anything. Help please! :)
galacticboy 3 years ago
I've got reason to rewire the thor synth and recorded fine. when i added the redrum and tried to record in a separate aux track in logic i had no luck. little confused. how come i can't record the redrum separately ?

GMAN1978august 3 years ago
Hi there, thanks for the info!
Can i use an audio channel instead of an auxiliar and record the audio comming out from reason?
More than than that, can i fastbounce multiple reason channels and work with them as audio later on?
Thanks!

Yep!
It's actually kind of the preferred method now....

when you bounce down the individual regions if they are soloed does it bounce down everything else in the project meaning really big files or will it just bounce the soloed regions?

The basics cannot be ignored as they are vital to laying a clean foundation. So it's important that you explain the basics to people, no matter what others might say or how boring it might sound.
Great video. Thanks!
