  • Awesome, thanks for the tip. I couldn't figure out why all the lights were flashing but there was no sound coming out of Logic!

  • my rewire isnt working in reason?..any clues..running logic express 9.1.5..reason 6..on a macbook.intel

  • With Mainstage now very affordable, can I rewire Mainstage into Abelton,my daw of choice? Does this technique run the same in reverse,I suppose that's the best way to ask.

  • By far the simplest explanation of this feature. Thank you.

  • thanx man.... very cool!

  • than q friend i am latency problem using reason 5 please help me

  • thanks mate works good

  • is logic studio 9 compatible with, microsoft windows xp, home edition, version 2002, service pack 3?

  • @htennekipanac1993 no. only macs that meet the specific requirements.

  • @htennekipanac1993 no it will only run on mac os x

  • @htennekipanac1993 no.... sorry buddy! ;/

  • NOT WORKING

  • @tracnemaker123 Update to 9.1.4 or downgrade Logic to 32 bit.

    It's kind of a pain.

  • @SFLogicNinja i have reason 5

  • Who would dislike this dude... he's a legend. Big up yourself SFNinja... thanks for the posts...

  • Cheers, I've just come from Reason 4 to Logic 9. It's done a little different but Logic make it simpler :D

  • thanks dude. I had a hell of a time with this.

  • This is a great video and was made several years ago. I hope you have come to know Reason as something more than just a "beat making" program.

  • Pyramind!

  • Being new to both Reason and Logic, this was very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to do these. I am subscribing to your channel here and know I will learn a good bit from you. Thanks!!

  • Hey ninja dude,

Ok so ive got a issue which is a newb oversight!

Ive used your video to rewire abelton and logic. I just want to be able to record the drum rack as logic midi. So it works and everything when I record it live but no audio or sound when the midi notes are played back!

    any advice help much appreciated.

    enjoying all the videos. thanks

  • @younggouny never mind actually, sorted it :D

  • Best vid by far on this.

  • can anyone explain why some of us don,t get a reason folder after creating an external midi track?

  • @johnralex I had the same problem. In case you haven't discovered this already, restarting your computer and opening logic before reason might just do the trick.

  • Great videos! But here's something that maybe you could help me with (and maybe a few others). Do you know how to use Battery 3 with Logic 9, each beat on its own mono track? I am having quite a time doing this in Logic 9. I've gone as far as to create a multi-timbral B3 instance, which creates 16 MIDI Tracks, but after that I'm stumped! How do I route these? Why won't it record MIDI? It's not like Reason where I can quantize and arrange, then bounce to audio perfectly. Haaaalp!

  • Would this essentially be the same process to control Waves Tune with ReWire in Logic? I mix pre-recorded tracks so midi is not my forte... but I do understand the basics. I enjoy your videos... it's takes a unique person to be able to teach, so much appreciated.

  • Very Very helpful, Thanks!

  • The only problem I have with this is that once I save and quit logic and reason, and then reopen them at a later time, I find that I have to reasign all my external midi tracks which were previously routed to reason instruments, is there a way around this so that all my reason instruments are automatically routed again? Something about quitting logic seems to remove the connections while all other midi data stays intact

  • Great Stuff, thanks!

  • get to the point. thats all people want to hear

  • I am curios, i did everyhting the way you said, and it works just fine, but my question is.. as the I/O is now running in rewire mode, how do i sample into reason.. ie with kong?

it seems i no longer get an input signal in reason

    thx

  • great vid. when I go to the mixer and hit + to make the auxillary track I keep getting a "sorry, merge is not possible in this window type". any idea as to what that means? thanks for your awesome vids brutha!

  • Thanks alot man really appreciate this! I finally learned how to link up the two softwares!

  • Hey, I've got reason in slave mode and logic open but I don't have a Reason folder in the right Library pane. Any tips?

  • Hi dude, right my issue is as follows. i get signal from Reason 4 in Logic. I can hear my track. Now i want to record all my reason channels to 1 stereo channel in Logic... how the bloody hell do i do it lol. If i create an audio channel it dowsnt get signal from rewire 1&2.. Thx in advance

  • Nice video , thanks :)

  • the best tutorial thus far and i have seen them all believe me!

  • Dude that was the best lesson. Im new with logic, its allot like protools but way easier to operate. Thanks for being CLEAR unlike these other vudeos

  • DON'T LISTEN TO THE HATERS BROTHER YOU GOT SKILLS

  • Thanks so much for these awesome videos SFLogicNinja! They help out tremendously and not only are they very educational, they're quite entertaining! You rawk!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!1

  • I bet you can tell it all

But I think that you can't make a beat

    (No Heat)

  • thankyou so much!

  • im having trouble playing multiple reason instrument because Im hearing all instruments play at the same time. How do I separate them so they dont all play at the same time? I tried to to just select the instrument via media Library but still didn't work, what should I be doing?

  • @markshotta in Reason, disable your keyboard's midi input, or make sure that the tracks in Reason are not record enabled. Reason is trying to play the instruments and Logic is as well.

  • HEy I rewired and everything thank you for that but I'm getting a strange airy sound whem using samples with Dr Rex. It's almost like a little reverb is added to the sample..all I have going is Dr Rex the mixer and the rewire slave. Do you know what the problem could be?

  • Hey David. Thanks for all the great info and for sharing your love of music. Quick question. I have successfully rewired reason to logic, but when I use my sustain pedal on my MIDI keyboard, I can hear the sustain through my monitors, but the MIDI info does not transfer to Logic, so things sound very staccatto. What is up yo?

  • Thanks!

  • big ol man crush on the ninja over here. oh rewire, where have you been?

  • What microphone are you using @01:13?

  • Was recommended to view your videos and I struck Gold! Thank you Bro for the CLARITY and TIME you take to share your knowledge. I appreciate your time and patience. Much respect

  • THANX !! I was trying to learn how to use rewired but could not doit with out this,THIS HELPED OUT ALOT!!!

  • cool thanks man good video

  • I run first Logic, then Reason but i can't see the "rewire" mark on the Audio Out. why is that ? Im using Logic Pro 9 and I want to rewire with Reason 3.0.4.

  • You say I can call you whatever you want? I'll call you a saint! Your method of explanation and dialogue gave me a great understanding of the relationship between logic and "outside" midi, all wrapped up in an entertaining and personal tone. Many thanks from Michigan!

  • your tutorials are very useful and informative, huge respect from London

  • if i didnt have this dude i would have prolly jumped back to cubase

    thx sfl ninja

  • You rock!

  • Very Informative. probably saved me a few hours.

  • Thanks this was helpful...I seem to have serious delay though when I use my midi keyboard through rewire...any suggestions?

  • Hey SFLogicNinja

Everythin is amazing ! Thangs ! BUT !

How can i record my remotcontrole for (frequenze, pitch) usw... I realy need that!

How i can do that ?

  • Im having trouble playing multiple reason instrument because Im hearing all instruments play at the same time. How do I separate them so they dont all play at the same time? I tried to to just select the instrument via media Library but still didn't work, what should I be doing?

  • hey nice video- just wondering if you did any sequencing in reason and then exported the finished project in logic -would the sequenced data shown in reason be exported with the rest of the project in logic??

  • Thanks man, that really makes it seem simple. Can't wait to get home and try this out!

  • Hey,

When I try to connect Reason through the Auxiliary channel strip, all the inputs for Rewire are ghosted.... (ie unselectable).

Has anyone else had this problem/ found a solution?

  • yeah i just got logic 9 and i have this problem. Reason also does not show up in the library for me.. WHY????

  • thanks, now you need to sleep, you look really tire.

  • thanks sf, just started up a rewire project & thought: manual & reading ... or a 6 min vid.

  • I had been getting no noise from Reason, even after setting up the AUX track... and then I realized, the AUX tracks DEFAULT TO -∞ meaning the fader has nothing coming through. Kind of crap. But it helps to remember that.

  • THANKSSSSSS :D

  • Thank you SO MUCH! I was trying to ReWire Siblieus 6 to Logic Pro 9 and was getting NO SOUND out of Sibelius. Nowhere did anyone think to tell you that you need to set up an AUX track to LISTEN to the audio coming from your slaved program. Set up the AUX track and voila, I can now hear my Sibelius sounds. Thanks a TON!

  • Man you are the TRUTH!!! THANKS FOR ALL of your enormous effort!!!

  • i can,t find "reason" in library of logics when I create external midi tk. So I can,t proceed.

  • I had the exact same problem until I realized that the Reason folder needs to be in your Applications folder. That solved everything for me....

  • great! love you!

  • the only problem with this is that you have 3 track for one synth or sample (midi, aux & audio track to record) when you have 20tracks of sound it give you 60 tracks loll ... do you have any other technique in rewire to record reason sound with less track so that i can create music a not using my time to record stuff.... :P thanks

  • God Bless you in all your endeavors lol.

    Subscribed.

  • Great video, thanx.

Can you make a video about recording the midi from Reason as audio tracks in Logic?

  • hey man - do you know if reason 2.5 is compatible with Logic 9? Can't get them to rewire as your video shows for reason 4.

  • Cool explanation!! Greetings from Spain!! Buy a comb by the way!!!

  • Great videos man, I'm a subscriber for sure. Got tired of pro tools and m audio now I'm switching to Logic/Apogee and keeping Reason/Live/Guitar Rig.

  • best vid on logic/reason. ever. quick and to the fucking point. thank you.

  • Thank you very much, you are a life savior

  • SOMEONE PLEASE LEAVE a REPLY WHAT IS BEtter LOGIC STUDIOS OR FL STUDIOS PLEASE TELL ME THANKS SO MMUCH!!! :)

  • Logic Studios

  • @ CrazyMusic4You

Fruity is funny, but Logic is the real deal. You can't compare the two. You can do it ALL with Logic, and you can't with Fruity. But you have to get in depth with Logic before understanding it

  • Fantastic videos bud! Got me to subscribe :) ... Keep them coming!!! Take care

  • Yes! Now I have the Ultimate set-up.

  • Hey ninja thx 4 everything you rock man , it worked for me the only thing is that i have an annoying latency, what can i do ? i have my buffer setting to 128 but i still have latency ...

  • How Do You Install VST To Logic ........Or AU.

  • No Vst will work in Logic without a wrapper. Try FXPansions VST to AU adapter...

AU's will install automatically, or you can place the component file in the AU Component directory ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/

  • I cant seem to do this with my *Digidesign Adapted* version of Reason........

  • extreeeeme ! i have always wanted the Thor-synth "The Val" for logic, now i´ve got it! didnt know that was possible. So now i can stop sample wav-files from Reason and import in Logic. Thank you man ! 5/5

  • Thor's 'The Val' or 'The Val (Cry)' f.... ROCKS DUDE!!!!!! IT'S THE BEST THOR'S SYNTH!!!! the onlyone that can make that Trance Synth is Hypersonic 2, but I don't have that one for Mac ='(

  • is the Reason/Logic combo a good one? I'm a current Reason user, and looking to buy Logic...

  • man rewire is hard they need to make it easier

  • Thanks for this. Recently upgraded to Logic and couldn't get anything from Reason to play in it. This pointed me in the right direction and got me audio.

  • SWEEET i have always wondered how to ustilize reason 4.0 sounds in logic.. thank you again ninja

  • I have a problem: When I open a project with Reason tracks (already wired and worked form the last time). Logic does not remember the Reason Channel on the Library. I have to go through all of the selecting Reason channels for the Logic tracks manually again every single time. What's the way to avoid this?

  • Thanks so much for this video! I'm new to Logic and teaching it to myself. I've been using your video as a reference each time I rewire Reason until I can memorize it.

  • I don't use rewire or reason yet but it seems like you should be able to skip the aux track and bring the audio from reason directly into an audio track in Logic. Whats stopping you from doing that? Also, wouldn't it make more since to take all returning audio to tape? I have limited processing power so this would take up less resources it seems. Is that correct?

  • Yeah, when I made this video, I wasn't aware yet of the input monitoring on audio tracks yet. I was still purging Logic 7, heh.

Yes, it is WAY easier to use audio tracks.

And you have the most intriguing moniker. What the hell does it mean? LOL

    *bows*

  • What are the chances they will ever put out a plug-in version of reason? Just the rack and all instruments, no sequencer. I'd even pay the same price for it!

  • you have to set up the input on logic

  • Comment removed

  • can u do this with qubase also?

  • you legend :)

  • keep it up man...you are fucking awesome

  • That was really really helpful. Thanks a lot man you are awesome!!! Keep doing what you do cause people like me really need it. Aloha.

  • You finally made me understand how to rewire. Thanks Ninja!

  • Ok when i open reason i dont see it my library can you tell me whats wrong

  • You are the mannnn!!!!!! Thanks!!!!

  • you are great ! yes.

  • I got this working and can play with my Oxygen 8 in Logic and hear Reason-synths coming back through an aux.

But Reason doesn't react to anything that I program in the Piano Roll in Logic.

Anyone know how to do that?

  • I switched to Logic relatively recently and love it! Your videos, Dave, are great and I learnt more in an evening watching them than I have on my own in 6 months! Keep up the good work!

  • got a questions when i rewire reasons in my pro tools 8 and or my logic 8 it plays all the sounds at once so if i have reasons on track one and a different reasons plugin on track 2 it will play both sounds at the same time

  • keep your mixer track on reason highlighted/selected

  • how do I add effects to individual reason rewire channels?

all my channels are going to output 1-2

  • would you happen to have a video where say for example you made a beat in reason, but you would like to put it in logic without using reason anymore?... if you dont could u please please please help me out... because i have hundreds of beats in reason but i want them all in logic now! thank you...

  • watch this video from minute 7:30 to the end ;) and u will know how to do it.

nice tutorials :) keep it up man

  • lol i heard him tryin to explain it but it just sounded so complicated but i gave it a couple more go's and i got it... thanks...

  • I don't understand how to do what he is explaining from 7:30 and on. Can someone please help?!

  • Comment removed

  • on the aux track that monitors the Reason MIDI .... Set the output to be a bus instead of something like Output 1-2 . So say Bus 1-2. Then make an Audio track with the input Bus 1-2 and the output going to you external sound source like Output 1-2. This will allow actual waveforms that you can record in logic therefore since its audio you wont need Reason to listen to it after its recorded. I think this should answer your question..

  • Ok I get it now! Thanks man. It's one of those things that you need someone to explain to you by writing it down, you know what I mean!

  • The only problem is that I can't put it to bus 1 and 2. I can only put it to 1 bus. Therefore, the track is no longer stereo, its mono I think.

  • Below is for jfalconebmop

  • Thx bro, ya saved me alot time!

  • David Earl U rock.... great tut. I would add that u could just render the tracks to audio files in the reason file menu and drag the reason tracks rendered u want onto Logic audio tracks.

  • I opened up logic and then reason, reason was in slave mode but when i created an external midi track reason did not show up, all it says was GM Device, Other Objects and USB Uno Midi Interface on the right hand bar. What do i need to do or how do i get it to work?

  • 3:41

aww that sucks a reason folder doesnt pop up on mine. just my m-audio oxygen 8 keyboard and those other folders. wonder what i did wrong...

  • yes i figured out what i did wrong. dont know what i did but i get the folder now

  • You legend, youve saved me a lot of hassle by making this video so CHEERS!

  • Thank you so much!!! This has saved me.

  • thanks for the post but the problem is when you add any additional internal software tracks and try to use logic sounds along with the reason tracks the reason sound interferes with the logic sounds how do i seperate them

  • GREAT TUTORIALl! I have a question that i guess would be the next step in using this method. With Reason and Logic rewired, how do i create tracks AND mixer tracks in Logic for additional Reason instruments? Every time i try it just creates additional mixer tracks for the first Reason instrument, which is cool for "beefing up" or doubling the sound.... but it's not what i need right now. Thanks!

  • galacticboy... yeh i figured there would a much easier way to do it. thats a pain in the nuts

  • I was getting tired of seeing all these 3 and 4 parts tutorials about rewiring... this is great man. thank you!

  • Awesome Lesson Thanks A LOT, you do Great

  • Is there any reason reason wouldn't fire up in rewire mode after you have opened logic?

Mind doesn't, yet I can't find anything on the net that tells me why this could be?

    Thanks.

  • You know how I can use logic effects like reverb through rewiring it to reason ? Like u know how I can reverb reason instruments in logic ? That's my only problem with rewiring it to reason. I can't find a way to use reverb like that. So plz if you know help me out.

  • First time around I couldn't figure out how to record drum loops from Reason onto Logic, but paying more attention to the second half took care of that bug.

Awesome video, most helpful I've yet seen on this site. Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • Found out how to do it! I bounced the tracks from logic and saved an aif file onto my desktop. Opened up a new track in Logic that was AUDIO, selected that in the window and then went to FILE, IMPORT AUDIO FILE. All good!! :)

  • same for me...this video helped SO MUCH for using synths in Reason....BUT, when I try to record Dr. Rex or ReDrum, it comes through with sound, but it doesn't record anything. Help please! :)

  • I've got reason to rewire the thor synth and recorded fine. when i added the redrum and tried to record in a separate aux track in logic i had no luck. little confused. how come i can't record the redrum separately ?

  • how do i rewire into live

  • Hi there, thanks for the info!

Can i use an audio channel instead of an auxiliar and record the audio comming out from reason?

More than than that, can i fastbounce multiple reason channels and work with them as audio later on?

    Thanks!

  • Yep!

It's actually kind of the preferred method now....

  • do you have a tutoial vid on how that is done?

  • when you bounce down the individual regions if they are soloed does it bounce down everything else in the project meaning really big files or will it just bounce the soloed regions?

  • T.E.A.M. Renaissance salutes you.

  • never ever posted any comments on anything on the internet... till now. I sincerely appreciate the time you took to create this to help people.. and me! you just saved an hour (maybe 2) of my time.

  • Hi I dont know what to say man accept THANK you, even that I dont speak very well english I can perfectly understand you.I worked until now on PC runing Logic 5.5.1 and month ago I bought mac G 5 and Logic Pro 8(I know I am very Late)and I must say that diffrence is very big,so you are very helpful to me Thanks again ciao...

  • hey man, my first comment ever made on youtube: great tutorial! thanks a lot.

  • You sir, are a god among men.

  • Really enjoying your tutorials mate.just purchased logic after a year of messing with reason so really appreciate this vid or as we say in new zealand-choice bro

  • Awesome advice x

  • The basics cannot be ignored as they are vital to laying a clean foundation. So it's important that you explain the basics to people, no matter what others might say or how boring it might sound.

    Great video. Thanks!

  • i dont have logic but dude your amazing your actully taking time to help people thats wicked nice to be ohnest i dont really understand some of the vids but still dude your amazing pce out dude!

  • Great help bro! I was wondering though if you have any suggestions as to why Reason 4 will not enter slave mode with Logic Pro 7, as is the case for me. I obviously opened logic first, then reason, however no rewire connection. Also, when I use GarageBand as the "master", Reason automatically enters slave mode as it should. Any solutions? I'm working on an Intel iMac if that's useful information.

  • Great tutorial man.... thanks!

  • I was in way over my head with Logic before I found your tuts. Stellar job! Easy to understand, Nice video caps, and funny at times too. These have really helped be to getting off and running. Also, check out the UCLA student taser remix. It's hilarious.

  • Hey Man, thank you so much for taking the time to make these tutorials!! your a legend!!

i did what you said and it worked strait up!

    rock on!!

  • wow, thank you for taking the time out of your schedule and helping, i really appreciate it.

  • great!

  • Excellent! just what we need! Peace, Wil

  • thank you very much. very helpful. sometimes they never really show you the simplest things and its nice that you have spelled it out simply so i dont have to trial and error for 6 hours just to get reason and logic working together. -R

  • Im using Logic Express.... Cant get it.. HELP!

  • you don't need a mixer, logic is your mixer

  • True, but in the heat of writing, I get annoyed at having to cable all of the Reason instruments al the time. i get selective about which tracks are going to be split out when I work with this config...

    *bows*

  • damn bra you da shit. you just made my weekend man. keep up the tutorials. peace from Hawaii.

  • Just what I needed. Thanks very much!
