  • smart idea!!!!!

  • david bowie midi?

  • it seems to only want to stop in 3 places, coordinated by the 3 coils of the motor's armature... in one of the clips, it looked like it was going to stop on 12, but bounced back to 11. this is a biased device... maybe a gear motor from a small rc plane would work better. i should try this!

  • hey dave.big fan, i just wanted 2 noe wat that thing with which u printed was???

  • The problem with it is that the distribution may not be fair. That is, the mechanics of the clock and arrow might make it tend to come to rest on one number (or group of numbers) more than on others (sort of like loaded dice). The only way to know for sure would be to run a large number of tests on it and then calculate the distribution that random numbers "should" have and then compare it with the values the clock actually gave.

  • Great video Dave, and a great way to remember.

  • Great vid, looks completely random to me as a great deal of practice and (LUCK) would go into cheating it lol. Sorry for the loss. Keep up the great work!!

  • lol at 5:00 it says ass project

  • the soldering station is awesome! I've the same Weller WES50 Watt. Thx for uploading :)

  • Why oh why didn't this video show up on my Youtube Homepage???

Good thing I still visit your channel.

  • nice I also got somthing alike it was a velleman soldering kit with leds and stuff but I lost it and found it again in 2 piecec lol never had a chance to really play with it maybe 1 game

  • i like this project but science fairs now are stupid experiments no Inventions :(

  • thats a great and clever design mr. herbert, im sorry abt your friend. Nice video though and your ideas always amaze me, they're really cool!

  • David Bowie background music.... sweet.

  • Great for twister too if you paint some segments on the face...

  • Im sorry for the loss. This skematic is the only one in all of youtube that i understand. thanks!

  • Looks like a kipkay video. Sorry to hear about your friend, Dave.

  • A fitting tribute. Nice job.

And from my old Apple II days there's this:

    10 X=INT(RND(1)*12)+1

    20 PRINT X

  • It's always sad to lose a good friend ,but you can remember to good times .

I have now got a use for that old clock ..

  • They have youtube in heaven :D

    Sweet :)

  • @fossil98 Ah...good news!

  • sorry for the loss......BUT!!!........the number is predetermined depending on were the arrow originally is and how long you hold the power button.......dice on the other hand is 100% random........it bounces anf flips numerous times befroe if stopz.......BUT!!!

your ways alot cooler!!!! LOL great vid

  • @flyingchimp99 Not true. The arrow Never stops in the same place, making it random. You can try all you want to stop it on the number you want, running long or short, but it wont. Glad you think it is cool though.

  • @NightFlyyer well.......it is random......but........what i meant was if you did it once.....and had the location of the arrow.......and new how long you helt the trigger,......than you could recreate the same thing.........can i just get one thing straight???............you hold the switch......it spins.....you than let go and it stops ??? or will it stop whenever it wants to?

  • @flyingchimp99 Well if it wasn't random, I would not have made this video...! We have used it to play several games of Monopoly and no one is complaining. They think it is fun and believe me we all try to hit that number we want....but...noooo! LOL.

  • @NightFlyyer hey could this be used to make a 1-20 RNG ? be great for DnD to replace a D20

  • @NightFlyyer this is a sweet project, but i dont play board games too much. Do you have any other electronicly orientated videos, maybe a playlist?

  • @flyingchimp99 The dice and this clock is somewhat equally random. Since the clock hand is rotating so fast you cannot control the time you press the button exactlly (enough) to get the same number twice. In the same way: if you could control the speed, height and angle of your hand as it let go of the dice it would also generate the same number twice. but you can't.

Using a CPU it's common to have a counter register running really fast and grabbing the value at keypress. Same idea as clock.

  • @adentse In his device the probability distribution is uniform. the probability of getting any number is 1/12. Unfortunately though, rolling 2 dice gives a different number distribution. Since you are rolling 2 dice, and there are 6 different possible outcomes per die, there is actually 36 different possible outcomes. There are multiple ways of getting a single number, 7 having the most ways 2 and 12 having the least.

  • im sorry for your loss dave, but can you have a nice weekend. Chris Christoffersen from Denmark

  • @quins7387 Thanks very kindly, Chris

  • And sorry for your loss :/

  • Mr. Nighflyyer back again with another brilliant video :)
