  • excellent shout out to MGS4!!!! Greatest game ever played

  • It's odd, I love video games, I live inside of music, yet I almost always turn the music off when playing a video game.

  • Mass Effect Music Epic Win

  • halo music...epic win

  • You didn't look at the UNATCO theme from Deus Ex (or all the pieces from Deus Ex for that matter)!

  • metal gear solid 4 soundtrack is absolutely off the chain

  • AC Games and Oblivion have great great sound track. and who cant forgot 8 bit castlevania?

  • The Shadow of colossis soundtrack is AWESOME!

  • Canis Canem Edit, AKA Bully, had honestly a killer soundtrack.

  • WOOT, the guy who composed it, Christopher Tin, is my cousin's cousin! WOO

  • @BuHaoProductions ...doesn't that make him YOUR cousin too?

  • love it

  • shame i didn't see anything about this in any news or entertainment news.

i suppose it is too positive.

  • Some of the greatest soundtracks have been from video games. Some examples would be: Fire Emblem, Halo, The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear, Fable, Grand Theft Auto, Pokemon, Command and Conquer, Street Fighter, Golden Eye....

I could name a whole list. All these great games deserve a level of commitment that they put, which even a few movies couldn't compare to.

  • SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS has an epic sound track

  • Civilization IV is such a great game, its soundtrack included.

  • Best video game soundtrack has got to be Star Wars Republic Commando, IMHO.

  • Final Fantasy IV DS intro music blew my mind. Better soundtrack than alot of console games :)

  • I bought Infamous because of the music.

  • To be honest, I just sat the the main screen to listen to that song...No idea it's just...well i don't know, tranquil and feels full of culture? this is coming from someone who likes Heavy Metal so i have no idea what the first thing means at least. Worth of a grammy i think then, next...Hell March! (Has that won anything?)

  • LOL I have that one my top 10 best video game soundtracks and guess what? Final Fantasy VI was #1 haha awesome

  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver intro theme...godlike.

  • Personally think the music from Dawn of war 2 is much better and more deserving of awards

  • The soundtrack to FFVI is the only thing that keeps me firing up the old emulator every now and then.

  • you know you're a good music composer when you can take a mellow track such as Shadows theme and make it into an epic score in final fantasy 6's ending theme.

  • *cough*GUILTY GEAR XX*cough*

  • The most funny part about the song is .....some Muslim guy singing it and liking it :P or whatever kind of religious person different then catholic :)

For those wondering what im talking about.... check the Lyrics for this song :)

  • halo music, nuf said.

  • @00tob What? It sounds nothing like music from Halo.

  • halo deserves this grammy.

  • I played the heck out of the Civilization series (except 1 and 2 because i had no computer then and 5 because it didn't capture me like the previous ones did)

  • i always loved the street fighter 2 soundtrack

  • It looks like you're fingering that sign xD

  • I'm Confused. That link to the song says it was posted in 2007 that means the song is 4 years old. how did it win an award this year??? Awesome song though

  • @Geekquisite

Well the game was made 6 years ago, i think it had the music even then but i think Tin maybe did it like 4 years ago...

  • @Geekquisite The composer of the song "Baba Yetu" (Christopher Tin) Officially released it on his album "Calling All Dawns" in late 2009. His album was nominated this year for an award (best classical crossover or soemthing like that) and Baba Yetu happened to be nominated for an award all by itself. Both won, may I add. :D

  • Nobuo Uematsu FTW

  • Thanx for the vid, I listened to the song and fell in love. Bought it on iTunes a minute later. Very deserving of a Grammy.

  • 8bit > all (you all know its true)

  • Forget civilization, Doom all the way!

  • The battlefield 2 theme..just amazing

  • The first Deus Ex won a BAFTA back in the day.

  • Why cant we see your open pores in HD??? :S

  • it's good I like it

  • wow all we need is sims to be nominated

  • @DKPaladinX ye, or You're Not Alone from IX, Nobuo Uematsu is indeed one of the great composers of the 20th/21st century

  • oh thank you! I cant get this stupid song out of my head since i watched this video on Tuesday. i always start to sing baba yetu. it makes me nuts.

  • Music is still music-no matter if it's from a video game or a movie,if it sounds awesome,it deserves to win...

  • After watching three of your videos in a row just now, I realized you say "awesome" a lot haha

  • Shadow of the Colossus.

  • Half-Life's soundtrack needs a grammy if anything, it has some damn good music, mostly electronic though

  • I heard that Clint Mansell (Requiem for a dream) will be composing the sound track for mass effect 3 that should be pretty epic

  • Uncharted is amazing

  • Guys, if you don't mind me advertising, may I suggest you listen to "Love & Loss" from Two Steps From Hell, this group makes the most epic music ever, yet they're not credited much, they don't sell music, it's free basically.

But yea Baba Yetu definitely deserved the grammy.

  • chrono trigger and halo :D

  • how r u not a youtube partner?

  • street fighter 4 soundtrack :) well its not a masterpiece but its catchy enough to be a hit n win a grammy if it was released as a normal song in the US

  • You should do a follow up video about what game songs you/we think should be nominated.

  • DUDE this is straight up BADASS Bro!

  • Sweet! I haven't played it, not much of a PC gamer myself. But I totally agree with your thoughts on video game music, it's often some of the most epic around and plays a similar if not more significant role than movie music.

  • The Metal Gear Solid Soundtracks were AWESOME ... since Harry gregson williams has layed his golden hands on the series ... I bought EVERY single O.S.T . He deserves an emmy oder two .. shit give him all of them ...

  • Briliant music in games that I remember right away:

    UT 2004 menu

    Battlefield 1942 menu

    Monkey Island menu

Halo Reach - Lone Wolf from 1:09 (used in IGN's top 10 halo kills)

...and there are many many more! :)

  • Jeremy, for epic video game music, find the soundtrack to "Total Annihilation", all the way back from 1997, by Jeremy Soule.

Yes, you and the composer share first names, so I know you feel compelled to listen!!

  • We love you Jeremy

  • That's cool but why hasn't Nobuo Uematsu won anything here I thought video games just couldn't enter.

  • AWSOME !!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG

  • Amazing. Good music can come from anywhere, really, so I can't see why so many people are biased against music from video games. This is definitely a step into the right direction.

  • Final Fantasy VI OST ... were you talking about awesome music ? ... well: Nobuo Uematsu's Music is just AMAZING (O.O)

  • duuuuude, the Bioshock themes rule! listen to 'The Ocean on His Shoulders' and Bioshock 2's 'Pairbond'

The second will make you cry manly tears full of testosterone

  • I didn't know how to get the soundtracks back then, and I use to leave Civ 4 at mainmenu for hours to listen to this song. Awesome Track.

  • video game music is better than alot of music out there. I loved the soundtrack of MDK2...

now what they need is for techno music... oh screw it, for DAFT PUNK TO GET THE OSCAR THEY DESERVE!!!!

  • It's about time!

  • Halo sountrack is epic as well.

  • no halo soundtrack love???

  • Kum bay yet chee yet to ee eh, king gooey yet a yet u achievo

I know that ain't right, but damn do I remember that song well.

  • Dragon Age menu theme song. Kick-assery.

  • I love video game music. From the 8bit era all the way to today. Video game music OSTs are the best out there! I think its the best kind of music to lestin to. Becouse to me lestining to my favorit video game OST make me like the game even more.

  • Did you like the 4th of 5th civ the most?

  • Thanks for letting us know. That just made my day. As soon as you started the bobba yetoo... I was like "Oh, THAT one!"

  • Uncharted definitely deserves a Grammy. The music is amaaazing. <3

  • Portal 2's soundtrack will likely be incredible. This song makes me think about things like world peace and stuff. That NEVER happens.

  • The soundtrack from Shadow of the Colossus should definitely win a grammy

  • i could've sworn that Command and Conquer Red Alert "Hell March" theme won a grammy?

  • Whoa. Your "click here" outro is far more advanced now.

  • Now it's a party

  • It may interest you to know that a friend of mine doing a music degree is writing her dissertation on video game music.

Also I sang in a choir for one of the Video Games Live concerts.

    I love video game music.

  • necropolis.mp3

  • One word.................Tekken

  • Awesome

  • Soundtracks that should have won awards years ago:

    Legend of Zelda

    and

    Halo

  • Bout fuckin' time.

    Halo ODST Soundtrack.

    04: Deference to Darkness.

  • 'bout damn time

  • This year the Heart of Courage song from mass Effect 2 Launch Trailer should have one the Grammy. And the next year, the contenders should be either a song from Mass Effect 3 or the song from Elders Scrolls V Skyrim Debut Trailer.

  • Uncharted <3. Im praying that Uncharted 3 has a good soundtrack, though theres not much to improve on. and my thoughts on it? music is music and just about any video game music is better than Bieber's. well...except for QWOP...

  • or something called Ocarina of Time, sorry, I'm a nintendo fan girl so I don't buy anything else, unless it's final fantasy or a gift...

  • @JeremyJahns

Aww Yeah, I love the price of freedom. And thanks for the awesome vids mate :)

  • I think this wins pancake mix, cookies, internetz, points points points and all that jizz. Yeah, I just said jizz instead of jazz. It's not even that I don't like jazz, I love jazz, both the music genre and the basketball team. But I really wanted to say jizz, 'cause that's what happens when you're retarded.

  • was this a bit delayed? I mean civ 4 came out a while ago and only when they release civ 5 do they recognize civ 4's music? How does that make any sense?!!

  • Wait, how did the song win? Civ IV came out 4 YEARS AGO. I'm not saying it didn't deserve it, but when you have better tracks from games that came out THIS YEAR whats the point.

  • I love it!

  • FF6 and Chrono Trigger pretty much had the best video game music ever.

  • Red Dead Redemption also had great music

  • i always click even if im already subscribed xD

  • Koji Kondo definitely deserves a grammy

  • Christopher Tin is an absolute beast when it comes to composing!

  • I loved that song!

  • video game music uh yeah all games have a great music or b crappy or c meh

  • Dude I just watched the video and the two highest rated comments are about you Jeremy!

  • HEY JEREMY SINCE YOU BASH THEM SO MUCH YOU SHOULD REVIEW VIDEO GAME MOVIES

LIKE, SUPER MARIO BROS, FINAL FANTASY, RESIDENT EVILS, MORTAL KOMBATS, STREET FIGHTER, DOOM ETC.

  • The entire Shadow of the Colossus soundtrack should have won a Grammy or something.

  • wanna know why?? because its fucking tribal (mild version). the niggers got wet when they heard it (extreme version).

  • Jeremy's hair looked fantastic today. . . that's all I have to say

  • This sound track was decent, but compare it Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2's theme, and Civilization IV's theme sounds down right kitschy. Modern Warfare 2's theme sounds much more epic, and it should, considering that it was written by the award winning composer Hans Zimmer, who wrote the Oscar nominated soundtrack to Ridley Scott's Gladiator as well as the soundtrack to Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Inception. Check it out:

    watch?v=w3w2-bb4DJk&feature=related

  • Halo Reach has one of the best game soundtrack of all time, OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!

  • While distinctly japanese, any Jet Grind/Set Radio or Katamari soundtrack would get my vote. Other than that, while the games sucked, I loved the soundtracks to Lair and Lost Planet 2. Mirror's Edge had a great soundtrack and great main theme and if anyone's given a listen to the New York or New York Aftermath theme from Crysis 2, it's epic sauce. And pretty much every Castlevania (with few exceptions) title also has awesome music.

  • MegaMan music should be included

classic, X series, Zero series etc

  • Thinking of a composer i can only think of: Hans Zimmer

That guy knows his shit, just look at all his work in movies and TV, i mean who doesnt love The Pacific soundtrack :)

  • i never get thumbs up :(

  • @tacoexorcist Good for you.

  • based off of this video, I can tell that you have great taste in video games.

  • kingdom hearts zelda and all epic games

  • Mass effect 2 has a great ost (Suicide mission)

  • @LittleMapleMan Hell yeah

  • You're adorable when you sing! :D

  • sorry mr. jahns but Assassin's creed franchise GOOD STORY good cinematics good gameplay and also a great soundtrack......

  • Love Kingdom Hearts soundtrack.

  • isent it civ V not civ IV

  • Assasin's creed 2 and brotherhood, killzone series, halo series, DMC series, resident evil series, and god of war series have some epic songs but those are the ones I can name off the top of my head. The gears of war 2 theme is really epic.

  • Arcanum of steamwork and magick obscura gets my vote

  • I thought i was the only one who like video game soundtracks. I love the soundtrack to both Mass Effects and the Onimusha series for PS2.

  • i am amazed. I bet it made all the other artists think "WHAT THE FUCK??!?! I GOT BEATEN BY A VIDEO GAME?!?"

  • Final fantasy 8 music anyone? Not just the ballroom dance, the whole thing!

  • Shadow of the Colossus Soundtrack is one of the most amazing soundtracks you'll ever listen to. The music is incredibly epic, and makes me want to play the game (in HD when it finally comes out(possibly in 3D HD))

  • Wow I'm surprised you didn't mention any song from the Shadow of The Colossus soundtrack. Demise of The Ritual. The one from the last colossus fight. Just Haunting.

  • I used to leave Civ4 on the menu screen while I studied on the laptop.

  • C'mon, Shadow of Colossus Soundtrack! That SHOULD've won a grammy years ago D:

  • I saw Scott Pilgrim! It was awsome! I recomend that everyone see it, especially if you're a geek ^^

  • Ah finally, recognition for vg music! I am happy, because most of my playlist consists of soundtracks for movies, animes and video games - some people just don't get it, but I think some of that might become future classic; it just has to be listened to.

There is a great podcast, "Into the Score", which is solely devoted to in-depth look at the video game music. If you are into video game soundtracks, I highly recommend you to give it a listen, it is really good.

  • The music in Eternal Sonata is really beautifull, especially the theme you hear when in battles, just epicness every time I hear it!

  • Not much of a gamer, but the soundtrack of street fighter II (yes, I'm old enough to played Super NES, shut up) is amazing!

Balrog, Ken, T-hawk, Ryu & vega, specially the last one, they all are amazing

  • who are the 3 bastards that pressed the dislike button

  • Dude, Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and 4 Soundtrack is way better!!!

  • did the Halo theme song ever win anything?... its pretty epic :D

  • Video games are being recognised as a legitimate art and forme of entertainement

  • Best video game song = Frog's Theme (Chrono Trigger)

  • hey Jeremy my mom sang this for her choir last year. once again the world is getting more awesometacular

  • Final fantasy series

  • i don't think the song is even that good...

Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack ftw! Also the Twilight Princess and Okami soundtracks are awesome.

  • That new click here was slightly scary.

  • METAL GEAR SOLID FTW!!!!!!!!

  • meh

  • I guess the Baba Yetu Civ. theme is alright but the soundtrack by NIN for Quake 1 is still #1 on my list after 15 years. Id software needs to get back to that realm. Its the only game plot they seem to have abandoned after the 1st edition. #2 on my list is the soundtrack to American McGee's Alice. Both soundtracks can be found all over youtube. American McGee's Alice sequel in the works, woohoo!

  • Crush 40's songs for Sonic the Hedgehog series are good too. Even if game sucked it always had awesome C40 song in it.

  • Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Donkey Kong Country 2, Okami, Warcraft 2 are probably among my top original soundtracks....licensed music would probably go to GTA: Vice City :D

  • Great news for musicians who love gaming. Now how about Grammy for the Killzone 3 menu theme huh? Whaddya say?

  • Assassin's Creed II Soundtrack is just beautiful! The same to Resident Evil 5.

  • Indie games like Braid and Machinarium offer very good soundtracks as well. Machinarium - Clockwise Operatta is a favorite.

  • press 9 and take one to the face.

  • the end of the VID killed me

  • final fantasy 8 intro music was my favorite personally

  • i loved that song im really happy it won :D

  • The soundtrack from the Legacy of Kain series is completely awesome!!,especially the ones from soul reaver 1! Legacy of Kain rulesssss!!!!

  • @thelostdudes That's funny, I listened to that today. One of the best intros ever. "Cast him in!"

  • @JeremyJahns Which is nice because the same VA who does Kain did Gabriel Roman in Uncharted 1.

  • @thelostdudes Your DAMN RIGHT! Now the God of War theme song from the first game (or any of the 5 games) needs to be recognized too.

  • @thelostdudes I 2nd that!

  • Dead Space - "Necromorphs Attack"

Best game track in recent memory.

  • God of War 3 soundtrack.....nuff said.

  • Your preaching to the choir man. I have Civ5 running in the background right now. I had to take a break to check out your vid :p

I'd have to say Zelda's my favorite. Those games consistently have amazing soundtracks.

  • Its amazing, The Witcher soundtracks are also amazing!

  • While I think it's great that a video game won a grammy, why was a 5 year old game nominated? I will admit that the song was great, but still, why not 5 years ago or a more recent game?

  • what about warcraft soundtrack? (I mean warcraft I, II, III, and wow)

  • SOC Music still among my most favorite

  • Jeremy, you are not only my favorite movie reviewer on youtube, but my favorite youtuber in general :)

  • Halo 2.
